When Su Mu stepped in, soone called from behind him, halting his steps. Su Mu turned around and saw Qiao Yu, who had just gotten out of a car. He ran up to Su Mu:

"How’s it going?"

"I just got here too, about to go inside."

"Let’s go together."

Su Mu nodded his head, and as they prepared to enter together, they were stopped at the door. Qiao Yu frowned slightly:

"I’m a senior mber of your club. Are you going to stop too?"

"Sorry, but today Shengyan Club is reserved entirely by Brother Rong Shen, and no one is allowed in."

Su Mu looked at the two n at the door. Their deanor and attire didn’t seem like club staff, which left only one explanation, they were Rong Shen’s n. It seed the entire club was under his control now, and Jiang Bei’s situation was akin to walking into a lion’s den alone. Su Mu could see Qiao Yu’s urgency, but no matter what he said, they wouldn’t let him in.

Qiao Yu cursed under his breath several tis, and this was the first ti Su Mu had seen him lose his composure. She vaguely sensed sothing was wrong.

She stopped Qiao Yu, who was about to barge in:

"It’s no use. The club is full of their people. You might be thrown out by their n before even getting inside. Isn’t Ji Nanfeng here? Why don’t you call him to ask about the situation inside?"

Out of desperation, Qiao Yu hurriedly pulled out his phone and dialed Ji Nanfeng’s number, who quickly answered. Qiao Yu asked urgently:

"Where are you? How’s Jiang Bei?"

"I’m at the café across the street."

Upon hearing this, Qiao Yu looked across the street and saw Ji Nanfeng waving to him from a window seat. Qiao Yu frowned slightly and hung up.

Su Mu noticed as well, her anxiety growing:

"Even Ji Nanfeng can’t get in?"

By now, Qiao Yu had also regained so composure. He withdrew his gaze back to Su Mu:

"Seeing Ji Nanfeng’s deanor doesn’t suggest anything bad is happening to Jiang Bei. How about we go wait across the street? From that spot, we’ll see Jiang Bei as soon as she cos out. It’s freezing cold; don’t catch a chill."

Su Mu shook her head:

"You go ahead, I’ll wait here."

Qiao Yu wanted to say more, but Su Mu stepped closer to the door, her intent clear. She wouldn’t leave Jiang Bei at this ti, even if she couldn’t see her, she wanted to be closer to her. Having no choice, Qiao Yu went alone to find Ji Nanfeng.

It was nearing year’s end and the weather was bitterly cold, making one question their life choices. Su Mu, despite wearing a thick down jacket, was freezing within minutes, yet the two n in thin suits remained upright without showing much discomfort other than slightly red ears.

Across the street in the café, Qiao Yu sat opposite Ji Nanfeng:

"Have you been here since you arrived?"

"What can I do if I can’t get in?" Ji Nanfeng casually looked out the window: "Today, Shengyan Club has been booked by Rong Shen. Except for his close confidants, no one is allowed in. Jiang Bei is fearless, but to choose such a ti to confront Rong Shen."

Qiao Yu glanced across the street at Su Mu:

"What’s the worst-case scenario?"

"Jiang Bei?" Ji Nanfeng said calmly, "She won’t die, at most, she will be played by a group of people."

His words caused the phone in Qiao Yu’s hand to drop to the floor. Ji Nanfeng watched him, and faintly smiled:

"What are you nervous about?"

Qiao Yu took a few seconds to recover before bending to pick up his phone: "Can’t we call the police?"

"When smuggling arms and ammunition can be hushed up, it’s just playing one woman. Who do you think would dare to answer that call and take on this matter?"

Qiao Yu looked at Ji Nanfeng:

"Don’t you like Jiang Bei? Do you really intend to stand by while she is ruined by Rong Shen?"

"That’s just the worst-case scenario. It might not even co to that."

"So you’re just sitting here hoping for the best?"

Ji Nanfeng could see Qiao Yu’s tension and agitation, but he remained unemotional, his expression indifferent. In Ji Nanfeng’s cold gaze, Qiao Yu seed to realize sothing. He opened his mouth to say sothing but eventually, no sound ca out.

"Qiao Yu, I never thought there would co a day when we’d be caught up in a drama over fighting for the sa woman."

Qiao Yu felt that Ji Nanfeng had long been aware of his feelings for Jiang Bei but had never spoken about it. Qiao Yu couldn’t presu to know, but now was not the ti to discuss it:

"Let’s wait until Jiang Bei is out to talk about this."

"We’re idle now anyway, we might as well talk about it."

Qiao Yu looked at Ji Nanfeng:

"What do you want to say?"

"It’s simple, between you and ." Ji Nanfeng smiled, "Shall we discuss whether we will end up turning against each other over a woman?"

"Do you think we will?"

Ji Nanfeng smiled lightly, "You an, you think we won’t?"

"Nanfeng." Qiao Yu said seriously, "It’s not the first day I’ve realized Jiang Bei is special to , nor is it the first day I’ve known about your feelings for her. I’ve never said anything, nor have I taken any action. Do you think I believe I can’t compete with you for her?"

"Maybe you’re just unsure of your own feelings."

Qiao Yu was silent for a few seconds, then he smiled lightly:

"You’re still as sharp as ever."

Ji Nanfeng, fiddling with the rim of his coffee cup, did not respond.

"I admit what you said, I am indeed a bit slow and dull when it cos to feelings, but even if I’m slow to warm up, you’ve been chasing Jiang Bei for so many days, and just based on my feelings alone, I can determine what position Jiang Bei holds in my heart. If you weren’t Ji Nanfeng, I would have made a move long ago, at least tried once. Even if Jiang Bei and I could no longer be friends afterward, I wouldn’t despise myself for being cowardly, lacking even the courage to express my feelings."

Ji Nanfeng looked at Qiao Yu, silent for a few seconds:

"Want to know what I think?"

Qiao Yu snorted softly:

"If you don’t want to talk, nobody can pry your mouth open."

Ji Nanfeng gave a slight smile:

"I realized you were interested in Jiang Bei at the old lady’s birthday party. By then, I had already been pursuing Jiang Bei for nearly a month. If I had known earlier that you felt the sa, even if I were interested in Jiang Bei, I wouldn’t have made a move. Unfortunately, it’s too late."

"Are you suggesting you’re backing out now?"

"If I step back, do you think Jiang Bei will take an interest in you?" Ji Nanfeng struck without rcy, "I don’t think so."

Qiao Yu laughed:

"Rarely, I have the sa thought about you, I don’t think Jiang Bei would take an interest in you, you boar."

"At least I perform well."

"You’ve never tried mine, how would you know it’s not good?"

Ji Nanfeng licked his lips: "Should I give it a try?"
