Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei and, seeing that she was not joking at all, finally looked down at the phone in her hand. The na displayed on the screen was indeed "old house". She adjusted her breathing for a few seconds before pressing the answer button and placing the phone to her ear. When the old lady’s voice ca through from the other end, Su Mu’s eyes reddened almost imdiately:
"Susu, why haven’t you co back yet? I went to bed early last night thinking you’d co ho late, but I just realized you didn’t return at all last night. Is it because Xiaobei’s issue hasn’t been resolved yet? Did you sleep well last night?"
Su Mu bit her lip, wanting to respond but unable to utter a word. In the end, it was Jiang Bei who took the phone and dealt with the grandmother:
"Grandma, it’s Xiaobei. Susu is here with now, but she stayed up late with last night and she’s asleep. I’ll have her call you back when she wakes up."
"No need, I just wanted to know when she’d be returning. Since the two of you are together, I’m relieved. Young people have more to talk about when they are together." Just as the old lady was about to hang up, Auntie Wang said sothing beside her, and the old lady added: "Tell Susu for to rember to charge her phone. Shinian called and couldn’t reach her, so he called the old house instead."
Jiang Bei froze at these words but quickly recovered:
"Alright, Grandma, I understand."
After hanging up, Jiang Bei returned the phone to Su Mu. She had obviously heard what the grandmother said and was now paler than before:
"Susu..."
"I’m fine." Su Mu’s voice was indifferent, and though she was smiling, Jiang Bei knew all too well how bitter her heart must be.
"Have you still decided to tell Fu Shinian about last night?" Jiang Bei looked at her, her tone sowhat helpless: "I admit what you said makes so sense, but, Susu, there are no lies in this world. Every married couple has their own little secrets. If two people have absolutely no secrets between them, what’s the difference from looking at a blank sheet of paper? A relationship that’s completely transparent and without mystery cannot last long."
Su Mu remained silent. She recognized that Jiang Bei’s words had so rit, but even if there were lies and secrets, they shouldn’t be like her own, which constituted deception, not so sort of mystery.
Jiang Bei also stopped persuading. After all, as a bystander, she could give her opinion, but she ultimately couldn’t make any decisions for her.
Jiang Bei stood up and poured a glass of water for Su Mu, placing it in front of her. Seeing that Su Mu still looked completely lost, she spoke:
"Do you want to go rest a bit?"
Su Mu shook her head, then stood up:
"I’ll go to the restroom for a bit."
Jiang Bei watched her worriedly and wanted to accompany her, but Su Mu smiled and refused, saying she wasn’t that fragile. Despite her concerns, Jiang Bei did not insist.
It wasn’t long after Su Mu entered the restroom that the phone rang again. Jiang Bei picked it up, raised an eyebrow slightly—it truly was Fu Shinian calling. She didn’t wait for Su Mu to co out and answered right away:
"Looking for Susu?"
"Jiang Bei?"
"Can tell it’s , huh? Not bad." Jiang Bei walked to the floor-to-ceiling window: "Susu is in the restroom. I’ll have her call you back later."
"No need." Fu Shinian’s tone was indifferent: "I’m about to go into a eting and won’t be convenient to answer. As long as she’s with you, that’s fine. I’m at ease."
Just after Jiang Bei hung up the phone, Su Mu ca out of the restroom. Seeing her own phone in Jiang Bei’s hand, she was montarily stunned. Jiang Bei let out a sigh:
"It was Fu Shinian’s call."
So things, once missed, truly can never be reclaid.
Just like the courage Su Mu had decided on to tell Fu Shinian about everything last night, at the mont she knew that Fu Shinian had tried to call her, she clearly realized that it might now be impossible to ever bring it up herself.
Jiang Bei walked over and gently hugged her:
"He didn’t ask about last night, just said, ’You’re with , he’s at ease.’ I don’t understand Fu Shinian, but you should know what this ’at ease’ ans."
Su Mu didn’t know what Fu Shinian felt the mont last night when he couldn’t get through to her, but over the years, she had experienced it many tis. Every ti he turned off his phone, or didn’t answer, she would think a lot, wondering if he had an accident, if he was with another woman, if he had grown tired of her.
The ’at ease’ that Fu Shinian ntioned, whether it was reassurance that she was alright or that she was just with Jiang Bei, Su Mu didn’t know. But she could clearly feel the shackles being placed upon her at that mont, and they might be very difficult to take off.

Wen Han spent 40 million to buy a few negatives, and Chen Huifang also wrote him a guarantee, promising that from now on she would have no further connection with the Wen Family. This ti, Wen Han was determined. He made it crystal clear to Chen Huifang that his promise to Zhuo Qing had ended, and he would no longer tolerate her repeated transgressions because of past affection. This was the last ti.
Chen Huifang saw a sharpness in Wen Han’s eyes that she had never seen before, which frightened her. Yet, she had no other choice. With a check in hand, she handed over the cara to Wen Han and promptly left, never looking back, not even once asking about Wen Shaoyuan.
In Chen Huifang’s eyes, Wen Shaoyuan was not her grandson, but rely the only link she had with the Wen Family. Now that she had received what she wanted, Wen Shaoyuan perhaps also lost his value to her.
After Chen Huifang left, Wen Han called over a guard:
"Follow her. See if she ets anyone and report to imdiately if there’s anything wrong."
"Yes."
Chen Huifang left the Military Region Compound and headed straight for the airport. Apart from one visit to the restroom, she had no contact with anyone else until her departure. The guard confird she boarded the plane before leaving the airport, but did not notice that shortly after Chen Huifang left, a woman wearing a duckbill hat entered the airport restroom.
On the way back to the city from the airport, Qin Nianwan fiddled with the mory card in her hand. She had spent 1 million to acquire a few pictures but felt it was more worthwhile than ever, though it was a pity she couldn’t witness Fu Shinian’s reaction to them herself. However, she could imagine it would be quite spectacular.
Qin Nianwan wanted Su Mu to fall into disgrace and for Fu Shinian to divorce her. Therefore, her intention all along had been to find soone to destroy Su Mu. She did not see this as a particularly vicious tactic, especially because she had recently been treated similarly by Wei Shaoqin. It was nothing more than a tooth for a tooth.
