"Ah... no! Don’t..."

"Smack! Smack!"

Two loud slaps struck Xia Xue’s face, blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, and she quieted down.

Her eyes were filled with hatred and despair, and tears stread down her cheeks...

Just then, the office door was suddenly kicked open, hitting Liu Zhigao’s back and toppling him to the ground.

Liu Zhigao looked up angrily to see Wang Hao standing at the doorway...

"Who are you? How dare you ss up my good ti?"

No sooner had he spoken when Wang Hao kicked him in the stomach, causing him to clutch his belly and howl in pain.

Seeing Xia Xue’s clothes torn, Wang Hao imdiately took off his own clothes and draped them over Xia Xue.

Xia Xue was surprised to see Wang Hao; she hadn’t expected him to show up. Could it be that he was worried about her safety and had rushed over?

She herself had never suffered such humiliation and quickly threw herself into Wang Hao’s arms, crying loudly.

"Where’s this brat from? He dares to hit ! Call the security guards! Security!"

Liu Zhigao shouted loudly, not daring to confront the situation on his own.

Seeing Liu Zhigao still so arrogant and unrepentant, Wang Hao, holding Xia Xue, slapped him across the left cheek.

"Spit!"

Liu Zhigao spat out a mouthful of blood and hurriedly hid behind the door, not daring to co out.

At that mont, several security guards rushed over at the sound and pulled out their batons, imdiately on alert upon seeing the disheveled office.

Liu Zhigao, seeing the guards arrive, dared to erge from behind the door.

Seeing the guards standing at the entrance, hesitant to move, he yelled out.

"This punk barged into my office! Beat him up, I’ll pay for any damage!"

But the guards still didn’t move.

"Mr. Wang is a distinguished guest I invited. I’d like to see who dares to touch him," Zhao Gang said as he walked in from outside.

Liu Zhigao stood frozen in place, his legs weak.

"Director..."

Liu Zhigao looked at Zhao Gang in disbelief.

"This kid broke into my office, I didn’t know he was your distinguished guest, so..."

Liu Zhigao stamred nervously.

"Nonsense! This lady is also a distinguished guest I’ve invited. I’ve been inford about your actions just now by other people in the office, so stop making excuses," Zhao Gang said, gesturing towards Xia Xue and Wang Hao.

At this, Liu Zhigao was completely stunned. Seeing Wang Hao’s stern gaze, he shook uncontrollably, and then seeing Xia Xue clinging to Wang Hao, so vulnerable and dependent, he knew he had t his match.

Wang Hao looked with disdain at Liu Zhigao’s contemptible behavior, wanting to kick him to death.

But with so many onlookers, he knew he had to give Director Zhao so semblance of respect.

"Director Zhao, is this how your people treat my employees?"

Wang Hao transferred all the pressure onto Zhao Gang, knowing that Zhao would have to give him an explanation.

Even though Wang Hao had agreed to lend his mbership card to Zhao Gang, the authorization hadn’t yet been delivered, and Zhao didn’t want to offend Wang Hao over this issue.

Seeing how anxious Wang Hao was for the lady, it was clear that their relationship was more than just employer and employee.

Hearing Wang Hao say this, Zhao Gang knew what to do.

"Liu Zhigao, as a public servant, you have abused your power to coerce others. Do you realize that is a cri?" shouted Zhao Gang righteously.

Upon hearing this, Liu Zhigao imdiately realized his mistake and collapsed to his knees, crawling in pain towards Wang Hao and Xia Xue.

"I’m lower than a beast! I deserve to die! Please, forgive !"

Liu Zhigao slapped himself while pleading pitifully.

"If you know you deserve to die, then why don’t you go ahead?"

Wang Hao, used to such duplicity, was naturally not easily deceived.

Seeing Wang Hao’s resolute attitude, Liu Zhigao knew that pleading wouldn’t work, so he turned his attention towards Xia Xue.

"Xia Xue, for the sake of our past, please..."

"Get lost!"

The ntion of their past only inflad Xia Xue’s anger, and she rejected him without hesitation.

With both refusing him, Liu Zhigao could only look to Zhao Gang with hope, thinking of the many tis he had wined and dined Zhao over the years and hoping for a word in his favor.

But Zhao Gang still needed sothing from Wang Hao, so how could he possibly offend him.

"Liu Zhigao, save your words for the disciplinary office," Zhao Gang said.

Upon hearing this, Liu Zhigao slumped to the ground, completely hopeless.

"What are you waiting for, take him away now!" Zhao Gang barked.

Several security guards hurried to drag Liu Zhigao out of the office, and what awaited him next would be a severe punishnt.

Zhao Gang also tactfully left and closed the office door behind him, leaving a private space for Wang Hao and Xia Xue.

Now in the office, only Wang Hao and Xia Xue remained, and once everyone else was gone, Xia Xue finally broke down and sobbed.

This was the first ti she had ever been so wronged.

She and her father had relied on each other for support, just as life was looking up for them when her father fell ill and spent all their savings.

All the burden now fell on Xia Xue’s shoulders, and as a woman, it was difficult for her to accept it at once.

She had had suitors too, but once they heard about her debts and her sick father, they all found reasons to leave.

So for so long, she bore everything alone, never having a shoulder to lean on.

This ti, as she rested on Wang Hao’s shoulder, she found it indescribably warm.

"It’s okay now, I’m here!" Wang Hao gently patted Xia Xue’s back, as if consoling a child.

Xia Xue looked up at him, her clear eyes filled with gratitude.

"Thank you!" she said.

"What are you saying thanks for! No need to be polite! We don’t need those empty formalities between us!" Wang Hao replied earnestly.

"Okay," nodded Xia Xue shyly, then rested her head against his chest.

Wang Hao reached out and embraced Xia Xue, and the two of them were like any ordinary couple, without too many complicated thoughts or flowery language, simply enjoying this brief mont of tranquility.

"Right, how did you know I was here?" Xia Xue, wiping the tears from the corner of her eye, asked as she looked up at Wang Hao.

"I was worried about you. What would we do with our greenhouse if sothing happened to you?" Wang Hao said with a grin.

Xia Xue was surprised. He had said "our greenhouse." Did he consider her one of his own?

Suddenly, Xia Xue felt her heart fill with warmth and happiness, and she couldn’t help but smile.

"Right, you do look better when you smile. Wipe away your tears, tidy up, and let’s leave this place," Wang Hao said.

Then, he used his own sleeve to wipe her tears.

Xia Xue, always a particular girl, had never allowed herself to cry in front of others. Today was the first.

Thankfully, Wang Hao was by her side, shielding her from prying eyes, or else she’d never be able to face anyone again.

At this mont, Xia Xue was imnsely grateful to Wang Hao and readily accepted his kindness.

The two of them quickly put themselves together and left the office.

"Mr. Wang, the lab report will be ready in two hours. Would you like to wait in my office?"

Zhao Gang had been waiting at the reception for them and imdiately approached them as they erged.

"No need, we’ll co back later to pick it up," Wang Hao replied.

"How about I take down your contact information, Mr. Wang? Once the results are ready, I can have soone deliver them to you. Would that be okay?" Zhao Gang asked with an ingratiating smile, signaling the receptionist to bring paper and a pen.

"Then I’ll have to trouble you, Director Zhao," Wang Hao said, accepting the paper and pen with a polite remark.

"Oh no trouble at all, it’s my honor to serve you! And how about I treat you both to a simple lunch?" Zhao Gang eagerly offered, hoping to take this opportunity to win over Wang Hao’s favor and fearful that he might change his mind.

Wang Hao, who finally had the chance to be alone with a beautiful woman, would not want to bring along such a big third wheel.

"No thanks, just make sure the lab work is done properly," Wang Hao said seriously, then imdiately turned to Xia Xue with a smile and asked softly, "What would you like for lunch? My treat."

Xia Xue, with a tender gaze, looked at Wang Hao and said cautiously,

"It’s fine. Could you accompany to the city hospital..."

Wang Hao was puzzled. Had she been hurt?
