On the Commander’s Platform, Chen Yuan swept his gaze across the drill ground, then paused in the southeastern corner where a group of soldiers was practicing swordsmanship, appearing to be new recruits. Among them stood a figure in green armor, sword at the ready, instructing the group, most of their body obscured by armor.
But Chen Yuan recognized the silhouette of an old acquaintance at a glance.
"Lu Ming," he called out to Lu Ming.
"General."
"Are those the new recruits?" Chen Yuan asked.
"Is the general referring to those practicing swordsmanship?" Lu Ming followed Chen Yuan’s line of sight, his eyebrows twitching slightly, "The foundation of swordsmanship here contains subtle intricacies, it doesn’t seem like the standard training thod used by The Overseers?"
"Did you get a clear look at the person leading the drills, doesn’t he seem familiar to you?" Chen Yuan’s gaze shifted slightly to Lu Ming’s rear right, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
Hearing the general say this, Lu Ming’s eyes were fixed on the person in green armor, trying hard to recall from mory. The figure did indeed seem familiar, but he couldn’t place where he had seen them before.
"Indeed, they seem familiar, but I have no impression."
"Do you rember when I first beca Colonel, you all brought your troops to White Emperor City to find , and later, I was entrusted with a critical mission to lead you to Tianxiong Pass to quell a rebellion. On the way, I encountered a friend being pursued..."
With this reminder from Chen Yuan, events from years ago ca back clearly to Lu Ming, and suddenly, he rembered who the person was.
It was soone he had indeed t before.
It was just that it had been a long ti, and he’d forgotten.
"I haven’t had contact with this person, it seems he has the surna Gongsun, related to Mr. Gongsun..." He was recalling.
"Gongsun Wuji, Dragon Mountain Sword Tomb Inheritor!" Chen Yuan revealed the person’s na, "Go and invite this person here."
Lu Ming obeyed, leaping from the high platform, turning into a fleeting shadow, landing in the southeastern corner of the drill ground within a few breaths.
"Bang"
His feet landed heavily, causing the ground to tremble slightly, attracting the gaze of the new recruits practicing swordsmanship, who stopped their actions, and whispers arose, causing a stir.
"What a strong killing aura,"
"Wearing red armor, this person seems to be the Piaoqi General!"
"It’s Lu Piaoqi, it’s him."
"I’ve heard that several Piaoqi generals command thousands of troops, following General Chen in battles across the south and north, achieving illustrious battle rits, they are our general’s trusted aides."
Murmurs arose on the field, eyes filled with awe and intensity.
On the field, Gongsun Wuji, instructing the swordsmanship, saw Lu Ming, the Piaoqi General approach, a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, but still, he held the sword at his waist, stepping forward, stopping a few steps away, clasping his fists and saluting.
"I have t the Piaoqi General!"
Lu Ming’s large eyes rolled over Gongsun Wuji, detecting that his aura was not much weaker than his own. His usual stern, swarthy face showed a hint of a smile, laughing heartily.
"No need for such formalities, Brother Gongsun."
"The general invites you up for a discussion!"
"Follow ."
After speaking, he imdiately moved, like a cannonball rising into the sky, heading towards the Commander’s Platform.
Gongsun Wuji’s expression showed shock and surprise upon hearing this, along with a hint of nervousness. After being stunned for a mont, he hurriedly stepped into the air, following after without having ti to instruct his subordinates.
The new recruits on the field were left looking at each other, faces full of astonishnt.
"Did you hear that, Lu Piaoqi said the general is inviting Gongsun Captain for a discussion."
"Oh my, Lu Piaoqi’s general wouldn’t be the Great General who returned to the mountain yesterday, would he?"
"I think that’s highly likely."
"They went up to the Commander’s Platform. Could it be that the Great General is here, watching us? No wonder I noticed even the captains on the drill ground earlier were quite tense."
With these words, everyone imdiately realized sothing, puffed out their chests, dared not make a disturbance, trying their best to present their best side.
On the other side, Lu Ming and Gongsun Wuji went up to the Commander’s Platform, stopping in front of Chen Yuan.
"General, the person is here." Lu Ming stepped aside quickly.
And when Gongsun Wuji personally saw Chen Yuan, graceful in white, exuding authority, smiling at him, he was montarily dazed.
Then he composed himself, quickly stepped forward a few paces, his hands drawing a semicircle in salute, bowing his body, "Subordinate greets..."
"Brother Gongsun!" unexpectedly, Chen Yuan interrupted, his eyes clear, "eting old friends today, let us not speak of military rank, but reminisce about old tis."
Hearing Chen Yuan call him "Brother Gongsun," Gongsun Wuji was taken aback, feeling flattered, and quickly bowed his head in salutation.
"The general condescending to mingle with , I am unworthy."
"All right, let’s not discuss these formalities. The day you ca to the Ninth Mountain, Mr. Gongsun already told about you, and he still rembers you. Although we haven’t seen each other for years, Brother Gongsun’s deanor remains undiminished, still full of pride, only a bit more seasoned."
Chen Yuan waved his hand, then said:
"I heard that you and a few chivalrous figures from the Worldly Society joined the Ninth Mountain, and Mr. Gongsun promised you could lead troops, freely selecting personnel from the recruits?"
Gongsun Wuji nodded, "Thanks to Mr. Gongsun’s favor, indeed so."
"Those new recruits earlier, are the ones you chose?"
"Exactly."
"I noticed their swordsmanship is not the standard military technique, but is it derived from your Dragon Mountain Sword Tomb’s swordsmanship?"
"I’m skilled in the sword, training soldiers is more intuitive this way. If the general feels it doesn’t comply with military regulations, then I will..." Gongsun Wuji hesitated as he spoke.
But he was interrupted by Chen Yuan’s laughter, Chen Yuan’s expression relaxed, "Why not? Dragon Mountain Swordsmanship is renowned in Shu, you selflessly bringing this family art to the Ninth Mountain, I’d be happy, not disapproving."
Lu Ming nodded beside him.
"In ti, my Ninth Mountain will gather excellent generals, with countless techniques and abundant talent, how can it not thrive? Your worry is really unwarranted."
"Feel free to act!" Chen Yuan laughed heartily.
These words ward Gongsun Wuji’s heart, easing his tension, a smile even appeared on his usually tight face.
He sighed in his heart, the "Brother Chen" before him remained as open-hearted as ever, far beyond himself.
"Thank you, Brother Chen!" The two words blocked in his throat finally ca out.
In the past, his pride only allowed him to watch Chen Yuan from afar among the crowd, lacking confidence to stand before him. Now, relieved, his heart felt clear, and he felt it was nothing.
Broaden one’s mind, and the world becos vast; it was just self-inflicted distress before.
Chen Yuan stepped forward, patted his shoulder, a smile hidden in his eyes, his expression turning sombre,
"The entire Mountain-cutting Army is about to sound the call for counterattack against the demons, ti is limited, the real training happens on the battlefield."
"I hope you all live well."
He patted the other’s shoulder a few tis, then withdrew his hand,
"Off you go!"
Gongsun Wuji nodded heavily, responding with a firm word,
"Subordinate takes leave."
After speaking, he turned and walked quickly, then leaped off the Commander’s Platform.
