Lance is one of the least-used weapons out there. It is too long, which gives such advantages, but there are just as many or more disadvantages.
Its why people use the sphere. It's the perfect weapon with the lethality of the lance and the accuracy of the saber.
However, the flaws in it didn't seem to restrict him. Instead, they seed to aid him.
