On the Ancient Tree, such a large-scale disturbance thoroughly frightened the newly arrived Fifth Fleet hunters. As the news was sent back to Astera, even the Commander could no longer sit still.
Leaving aside the fact that all the Fire Wyverns across the entire Ancient Tree had begun to move, even the Sunblaze Dragon—who had been calmly staying on the Ancient Tree—no longer acted as a second sun and likewise departed from the Ancient Tree.
This scene—why did it look so much like the Ancient Tree had been abandoned?
If it were not for the fact that, in Blazefire Village, the Grimalkynes and the Ancient Wyverian upper ranks were still present, that the newly born young wyverns that could not yet leave the nest, as well as large numbers of Radiant Crystal Butterflies, were all still peacefully staying in place, the Commander would likely have been so worried that he could not sleep.
The current relationship between Astera and the Ancient Tree could be said to be the complete opposite of what it was twenty years ago.
Twenty years ago, the Ancient Tree could not do without Astera; now, it was Astera that could not do without the Ancient Tree.
Over a thousand hunters had to be supported. Large quantities of food relied on cultivation from the Ancient Tree. Other dicinal materials, logistical supplies, and so on all depended on the Ancient Tree's provision. If sothing were to happen to the Ancient Tree, Astera's very foundation would be cut off!
"Imdiately establish communication with Blazefire Village and determine the cause of the abnormal situation. All hunters are to head to the Ancient Tree—under no circumstances allow any non–Ancient Tree organisms to enter the Ancient Tree! At once, arrange personnel to go to the opposite side of the Great Ravine and communicate with the Third Fleet Master; ensure that the Admiral returns in the shortest possible ti! Finally, assign people to search for the Sunblaze Dragon's whereabouts and attempt to communicate with Him!"
A succession of orders was issued. The Commander frowned as he watched everyone hurry off, raised his hand to stop Noah's question, then gestured to the head of the "Elder Dragon Communication Unit," urging him to quickly take him to the back mountain to look for Mother Chaleos!
No one knew when the Admiral's side would be able to return. Before that, on Astera's side, the only one who could speak with the Sunblaze Dragon was a certain First Fleet Elder Dragon who had been well-behaved for many years.
"Gwa??"
On the back mountain, Mother Chaleos's sleepy eyes suddenly widened. Hearing the Commander's description with disbelief, she imdiately felt a headache coming on.
What exactly had happened during these past few years of her quiet, well-behaved tamorphosis? Why would Logan's side suddenly leave the Ancient Tree as a group—could it be that so urgent situation had arisen?
Mother Chaleos instantly beca alert!
Her very first reaction at this mont was: if it was an incident severe enough to make even the Sunblaze Dragon run away, was it sothing she should also pack up and run from as well?
Only afterward did she belatedly realize that the Commander and the others wanted her to go find the Sunblaze Dragon and learn what exactly had happened.
"Gwa!"
Without saying much, Mother Chaleos decisively accepted the mission, which made the Commander's heart ease a little.
It was good that Mother Chaleos agreed. With her taking action, even if they could not figure out what had happened, at the very least they could obtain so information from the Sunblaze Dragon.
But watching Mother Chaleos, before setting off, first return to her own den and dig out the stockpile she had buried underground, then carefully pack it away—only then flying off with the utterly baffled "Little Fat Chaleos" in tow—he still felt that sothing was not quite right.
...
In the Ancient Tree region, Mother Chaleos landed on the Ancient Tree, bringing along the little Chaleos who had flown until it was panting, its entire dragon body practically about to turn spherical.
Looking at the empty Ancient Tree—only a few big cats and little cats left, with clearly more than half of the living creatures gone—she truly began to feel panicked for a mont.
As for what the Ancient Tree ant to Logan, over these past years Mother Chaleos had also inferred quite a bit of information. Even so, the current situation had still happened—just how big of a matter did this have to be?
And what made Mother Chaleos angry was that, since such a major event had occurred, Logan had actually not sent anyone to inform her even once. That was simply far too inconsiderate!!
Just as Mother Chaleos began to think about where to look for Logan's traces—and if she could not find them, whether she should take the little Chaleos and head to the Guiding Lands to find that scum dragon—
Aki ca down heavily with a large swarm of Radiant Crystal Butterflies, making that Ancient Tree branch give off a sound as if it could not bear the load.
Mother Chaleos's perfect invisibility—so long as she did not launch an attack—even Aki could not detect.
But the little Chaleos was different. Although it was also invisible, Aki still discovered its traces at the first mont.
A little curious as to why this little underling of her own big boy would appear here, Aki let out a low roar.
"Gwa?!!" (You didn't leave, gwa!!)
Mother Chaleos's sudden appearance at her side startled Aki. Instinctively, she spat a fireball straight over.
Mother Chaleos, who had no defenses up at all, was directly knocked over and forced to reveal her form. However, the scorching burn wound where her body had been struck by the fireball rapidly healed amid a faint, almost imperceptible yellow glow. Before the entire dragon had even landed, there was not the slightest trace of injury left.
"Gwa!!"
Mother Chaleos's furious voice rang out. Aki, with wisps of smoke still hanging at the corner of her mouth, blinked her eyes, seeming a little embarrassed.
But when she saw that Mother Chaleos was still refusing to let it go, continuing to gwa-gwa on and on, the deep blue pupils in her eyes suddenly contracted, her gaze instantly turning sharp.
Mother Chaleos's voice was like a song that had been paused mid-play—cut off abruptly in an instant. Her entire dragon body froze in place. After a mont, she shrank her neck slightly and let out a small, subdued "gwa," as if complaining that Aki was really no fun at all, and about her decades-unchanged violent temper!
At the side, the little Chaleos watching the spectacle smacked its lips. This kind of interaction between its own mother and Aki was sothing it had long since grown used to.
One was timid yet loved to stir up trouble; the other never indulged anyone and struck whenever she felt like it.
Even though Mother Chaleos, in terms of how troubleso she was, was now more than enough to disgust Aki to death, she just happened to be the type who was fierce only at ho.
Toward partner and child: I strike with heavy punches!
Toward the hot-tempered Logan couple: I cower and submit!
That was the little Chaleos's summary of its own mother.
Seeing Mother Chaleos beco obedient again, Aki could not be bothered to pursue the matter further.
These past few days, she had been handling the disturbances in one direction by herself. Because she could not engage in indiscriminate slaughter, she had to wait for the hunters and the cats to judge the situation before restraining her power—those that needed to be driven off were driven off, those that needed to be maintained were maintained. Not only did her pent-up battle desire have nowhere to be vented, she was also extrely tired.
Now that she was back, she naturally needed to rest properly. She had no mood to waste ti sparring with Mother Chaleos.
Opening her mouth, she let out a huge yawn, then gave a low roar telling Mother Chaleos and the child to go play on their own. Folding her wings, she stepped forward with heavy footsteps, about to walk toward her nest.
"Gwa, gwa!"
Mother Chaleos's urgent cries made Aki stop. Watching Mother Chaleos excitedly wave her limbs about while gwa-gwa-ing, a trace of confusion appeared in Aki's eyes.
"Leave? Leave where? There's no migration."
Aki's puzzled expression made Mother Chaleos realize that this matter was definitely a misunderstanding. The Ancient Tree had not been disbanded, and the Logan couple had not run away.
This made her let out a huge sigh of relief. Although she felt a bit resentful that the Ancient Tree side had made such a big move without a word, at least there was no need to flee to the Guiding Lands to face that scum dragon. That was good news as well, wasn't it?
