At the farthest edge of the Ancient Tree's influence, a massive Anjanath trudged heavily toward a small creek and began gulping down water with loud, gurgling noises.

Surveying the familiar hunting ground, it thought—after five years, it had finally returned!

Unfortunately, its luck didn’t seem so great. In such a vast area, there wasn’t a single herbivore in sight. Perhaps the Rathalos had just passed through and hunted recently.

“Awooo!!”

A sharp howl rang out in the distance. The Anjanath snapped its head up in alarm, eyes fixed on the oncoming figure—an electrified Zinogre streaking toward it, sparks and lightning crackling in its wake.

The Anjanath's eyes widened. Its heat dispersal fins flared open, and sparks began to flicker from the corners of its mouth.

Closer… closer…

The Zinogre approached at lightning speed. In the blink of an eye, it was in front of the Anjanath. Its right foreclaw raised high, blazing with crackling energy, and ca crashing down toward the Anjanath's head.

Based on its recent brawls with other Anjanaths, the Zinogre had learned to expect these muscle-headed brutes to charge in blindly and et its blows head-on.

It had even prepared to dodge right after the strike connected.

But sothing unexpected happened.

This Anjanath… stepped back.

Yes, you read that right—this brawler, infamous for its reckless aggression, actually dodged.

The Zinogre's claw struck only empty air. Before it could recover, the Anjanath twisted its body and swung its tail—a brutal whip crack that revealed sharp spikes embedded in its tip. They tore through the Zinogre's cheek, sending it staggering backward.

It didn’t stop there. Just as the Zinogre struggled to steady itself, a powerful back-kick followed through—not strong enough to crush bones, but enough to topple it.

Still reeling, the Zinogre was hit by a sudden blast of searing flas erupting against its chest. The shockwave and extre heat tore through its nerves, setting every inch of its body ablaze with pain.

But the bio-electric organs inside its body had already been fully activated. The swarms of Thunderbugs clinging to its fur intensified in response, flooding its body with energy and snapping it back into clarity.

Gritting through the pain, the Zinogre leapt backward to regain distance, its bloodshot eyes locked fiercely onto the Anjanath, who stood still—showing no signs of pursuit.

It let out a piercing howl. Its yellow-charged shell discharged electricity, sending jolts through the fur on its back and rousing the mass of hyper-charged Thunderbugs into frenzied activity. They began generating even more power, wrapping the Zinogre in a brilliant electric aura.

This was the Zinogre’s peak form.

Most of the current was insulated by its teal-colored scales, but a portion of it surged through its muscles, drastically boosting its strength and sharpening its reflexes. Every strike it landed now carried devastating electrical power.

And yet, in this amplified state, the Zinogre didn’t rush in.

Instead, like a seasoned warrior, it patiently searched for an opening, waiting for the Anjanath to make the first move—so it could deliver a lethal counterattack.

Around the Anjanath’s heat fins, the air shimred—an unmistakable sign of its body temperature reaching a critical peak. By all logic, this ant it should have entered an enraged state, sacrificing reason for relentless, berserker-style aggression and overwhelming destruction.

But this Anjanath was eerily calm.

Its eyes remained cold, staring directly at the Zinogre, with not the slightest intention of charging.

'Why isn’t it coming at ?!'

'Why isn’t it coming at ?!'

The exact sa question echoed in both their minds.

This was also the first ti in its life that the Anjanath had ever encountered a Zinogre.

After all, Zinogres were pack-based creatures and rarely migrated on their own. Their packs typically resided deep within the Ancient Forest, near the Great Ravine, while Anjanaths lived closer to the outer edge of the forest. With a forest this vast, it wasn’t unusual that they’d never crossed paths—until now.

Gradually, it was the Zinogre who lost patience first.

The earlier misstep that had allowed the Anjanath to land a short combo had taken its toll. The resulting injuries made it impossible to sustain its supercharged state for long. And once it confird the Anjanath truly had no intention of making the first move, it had no choice but to launch the attack itself.

Lightning rained down with a thunderous howl. The Zinogre commanded its Thunderbugs to zip toward the Anjanath, channeling electricity from its body and guiding it into a powerful strike.

As expected, the Anjanath—having never seen such an attack before—was caught off guard. The lightning hit squarely, electric filants wrapping around its body and leaving it montarily numb and tingling.

The Zinogre, sensing the perfect opening, charged in without hesitation.

But the Anjanath didn’t cower. Gritting through the discomfort, it surged forward as well.

As they closed the distance, the Anjanath dipped its massive, fla-wreathed jaws and began a full-body charge, its lower jaw—lined with hardened keratin and sharp teeth—grazing the ground as it advanced in a brutal Dragon Car Rush.

This was the Anjanath’s ultimate move in a state of peak rage.

Jawbreaker Rush.

If it hit head-on, even a Zinogre would suffer shattered bones and find itself completely outmatched.

The Zinogre, having fought many Anjanaths by now, understood the devastating power of this technique. Many of its kin had fallen to exactly this move.

So the mont it recognized the charging posture, the Zinogre leapt into the air, aiming directly for the Anjanath’s heat dispersal fins.

That spot—right between the fins—was the Anjanath’s greatest weak point.

But sothing unexpected happened.

The charge, which by all logic should have been unstoppable, ca to a sudden halt. And in the Anjanath’s eyes glead a twisted look of mockery.

A blast of searing flas erupted from its mouth.

The Zinogre, suspended in midair, had nowhere to escape. It was hit squarely by the fire. The Thunderbugs on its back were incinerated instantly, and the remaining ones scattered and fled.

Without the Thunderbugs to recharge its electric reserves, the Zinogre’s supercharged state collapsed in an instant. It crashed heavily to the ground and lay there, dazed and unable to move.

Pounce-and-Flabite.

This was the true killing blow of this one-of-a-kind Anjanath.

The Zinogre’s final mory was of a mouth filled with fire—and then, in a flash of scorching pain, the adult Zinogre perished, its life ended in an instant.

With the threat eliminated, the Anjanath wasted no ti. It tore open the Zinogre's carcass and began to feast heartily.

It hadn’t expected such a generous al to appear like this. Just monts ago, it was preparing to search for herbivores on an empty stomach. And yet, out of nowhere, this brainless Zinogre had co charging in like a gift from the heavens.

Using only two simple tricks—battle-honed during those five agonizing years—it had dispatched its foe with ease.

At that thought, the Anjanath couldn’t help but recall that detestable male Rathalos. If it had been him, none of those tricks would’ve worked. That one didn’t fall for such setups.

But this dumb Zinogre… it didn’t even bother to test the waters. Just charged in with raw, clumsy aggression. It deserved its fate.

As the Anjanath ate, sothing peculiar happened.

The scattered Thunderbugs—now without a host—drifted toward its back. Crawling into its mane, they began to absorb static electricity generated by the friction of the Anjanath’s movent.

At the sa ti, residual electrical currents from the Thunderbugs silently seeped into the Anjanath’s body, eventually traveling through its bloodstream and converging in its fla sac.

At that mont, a mysterious mutation began.

The conflicting energies were gradually pacified by life force the Anjanath had absorbed unconsciously over ti. And now, its fla sac began to shift—evolving toward sothing entirely new.

Back in the Ancient Tree, Logan had no idea that an old, familiar beast had returned to the area. But an unsettling feeling gnawed at him—like sothing dangerous was quietly approaching the Ancient Tree.

Today was Logan’s turn to hunt, so after a brief word with Aki, he flew out of the nest.

The Grimalkynes had already scouted the migration path of a herd of Aptonoths. Logan didn’t need to waste ti searching—he simply had to follow their lead.

Before long, he located a group of herbivores grazing peacefully in a field of grass. Circling high above them, Logan used the cloud cover to conceal himself. Once he picked a suitable target, he dove straight down from the sky.

Almost at the sa ti, approaching from the opposite direction of the herd, ca a strange and powerful presence.

It was a massive Flying Wyvern, asuring around 14 ters in length. Its head featured a powerful hooked beak and a pair of triangular, ear-like keratin horns. Its body wasn’t covered in feathers but instead armored in hardened, dark purple-black carapace.

White mane fur lined its long neck. With one wing claw and four wing bones, it beat its wings fiercely. Its tail resembled that of a Rathalos, and from its beak ca a sharp, piercing shriek as it flew in low, fast, and furious.

It was heading toward the exact sa target as Logan.

But since Logan was diving from high altitude while the creature was flying low, it hadn’t noticed him.

Logan, on the other hand, imdiately took note of this uninvited guest.

Yian Garuga!

A Flying Wyvern species infamous for its ferocious, wolf-like aggression. Its moveset and skeletal structure were so similar to the Rathian's that in his previous life, hunters jokingly referred to it as the 'illegitimate child' of a cheating Rathian.

But that raised a question:

Why was a Yian Garuga here?!
