Chapter 895: 881, just caught a mouse (1)
“You still have a slight fever, and need to take more tablets. I’ll go get them for you.”
After she finished speaking, she quickly escaped.
Bai Jue titled his head, watching her flee in panic, a faint curve forming on his water-colored lips.
It seed this fever was quite worthwhile!
Once outside, Zhan Mingyan clutched her chest, her quickened heartbeat gradually calming down; she raised her hand to pat her cheeks.
“Zhan Mingyan, what are you thinking?”
No wild thoughts allowed, the priority was to get him out of here quickly.
She shook her head and went to the cabinet to look for fever-reducing dicine.
The door to the inner room was not closed; she took the cup and walked straight in.
“Bai Jue, once you’ve taken the tablet, you need to leave quickly. I’ll call a car for you later, you…”
As she looked up, her words abruptly stopped.
They locked eyes, and the room fell silent.
Bai Jue was sitting on the bed, the blanket slipped to his waist, revealing a robust chest; his honey-colored skin shone enthrallingly, raising one’s heartbeat.
Seeing her as if frozen in place, he raised his hand to run it through his hair, a teasing smile tinging his gaze, “Zhan Mingyan, how much longer will you look, hmm?”
eting his teasing eyes, Zhan Mingyan’s pale face flushed red, and she quickly turned away, “Bai Jue, are you sick or sothing? Where are your clothes?”
She clearly put a nightgown on him last night, so why was he shirtless upon waking up?
“You are right, I am indeed sick. Weren’t you bringing dicine for
to take?” Bai Jue reminisced about her blushing just a mont ago, his husky voice carrying a hint of laughter.
“Where’s the dicine?”
Having a fever counts as being sick, doesn’t it?
The blush had not faded from Zhan Mingyan’s face, and her hand holding the cup trembled, spilling water onto her hand. Annoyed, she said, “I’m talking about your clothes, where did they go?”
She thought he wasn’t feverish, just had a screw loose in his head.
“How could a big guy like
wear a dress? Besides, it’s not cold in here, it’s okay, I won’t catch a cold,” Bai Jue said lightly.
“…”
Zhan Mingyan was furious.
It might be no issue for him, but it was an issue for her.
“I don’t care, put that dress back on right now, or give
your phone, and I’ll have Jian Luo co get you.”
Bai Jue glanced under the bed and saw the “cute” style nightgown, rejecting the idea without a second thought.
“I’ve already had soone send over my clothes. I’ll just wrap myself in the blanket for now. Hey, Zhan Mingyan, you’re a doctor, you’ve seen this kind of thing before, why be shy?” he teased.
“Who said I was shy?”
Unable to withstand the provocation, Zhan Mingyan turned back around, and in her agitation, water from the cup splashed everywhere.
“It’s all your fault!”
She looked down at her soaked plush slippers, glowering at Bai Jue.
The woman’s cheeks puffed up in anger, tinted with a faint pink; Bai Jue’s gaze softened, and he chuckled, “Okay, it’s all my fault. I’ll buy you a new pair.”
The overtly gentle tone caused her to pause in her tracks.
Even in the dim light, the bright smile at the corner of the man’s mouth clearly entered her sight, dazzling her.
She gathered her wandering thoughts and said uneasily, “Wait here. I’ll go pour you another glass of water.”
Having said this, she ran out again.
Bai Jue shook his head with a light chuckle, tossed off the blanket, got out of bed, picked up the towel on the bed, casually wrapped it around his waist, and went out shirtless.
Heavens—
Zhan Mingyan was pouring water when she heard footsteps. She looked up and jumped in surprise.
“You, what are you doing out here?”
“I’m hungry,” Bai Jue said.
The towel tied loosely around the man’s waist accentuated his clearly defined abs. With his long legs taking wide strides, he marched right up to her in just a few steps.
As he advanced, she retreated. Zhan Mingyan put up her hand to halt him, keeping a distance between them, “Stop right there, here’s your dication. Take it quickly and go back, I don’t have any food here.”
As she spoke, she stuffed the dication and a glass of water into his hands before sidestepping past him and walking briskly into the inner room.
“Where are you going?” Watching her avoid him as if he were a venomous snake, the gleam in Bai Jue’s eyes dimd.
“Brushing my teeth and washing my face,” she replied without turning back.
By the ti Zhan Mingyan ca out in fresh clothes, Bai Jue had finished his dicine and was sitting on the sofa with his head down, his facial expression invisible.
“When will your clothes arrive?” Zhan Mingyan walked over, sat down across from him, and asked.
Bai Jue replied, “In a bit.”
Zhan Mingyan uttered an “Oh,” took out her phone, and fiddled with it absentmindedly, the air heavy with a slight awkwardness.
Just as Zhan Mingyan was about to break the silence, soone suddenly knocked on the door.
“Knock, knock, knock—”
“It must be your clothes. I’ll go answer the door.” She put away her phone, picked up the keys from the cash register, and walked over to open the door.
Gently lifting the curtain, she was petrified at the sight of the person standing there.
Ah, my goodness!
The visitor outside cracked a slight smile, making Zhan Mingyan even more frantic. She quickly closed the curtain and dashed back.
“What happened?” Bai Jue asked, puzzled by her strange behavior.
Zhan Mingyan was visibly tense. “My mom is here.”
“Your mother is here, and you’re not opening the door for her?!” Bai Jue stood up as if intending to open the door for her.
“Are you out of your mind? My mom will definitely get the wrong idea if she sees you looking like that, suspecting sothing between you and ,” Zhan Mingyan hurriedly grabbed him, hustled him towards the inner room, “Get in quickly, and don’t you dare co out without my say-so.”
That damn Bai Jue, he was truly going to be the death of her.
“Wait a minute, if I hide in there and your mom finds , it will be even harder to explain,” Bai Jue held onto her hand, a hint of a different color flashing in his eyes. If he could take the opportunity to gain his future mother-in-law’s approval, wouldn’t that be a bonus?
“Shut up and get in there, Bai Jue! If you dare co out, I’ll never be done with you,” Zhan Mingyan pushed him into the room, didn’t give him a chance to speak, and shut the door.
“Bang—”
Bai Jue touched his nose and leaned close to the door to listen to the commotion outside.
“Mom, why are you here?” Zhan Mingyan opened the door to see the person standing at the entrance, lovingly taking her hand.
“You kid, you ran away as if you saw a ghost just now. What are you doing inside?” Lu Hui tapped her on the forehead and asked.
“Nothing really, I was just catching a mouse. I didn’t want to scare you, so I thought to get rid of the mouse before letting you in,” Zhan Mingyan lied with a straight face.
Hidden in the inner room, Bai Jue’s handso face turned dark as he clenched the doorknob, nearly ready to burst out.
Is there such a handso mouse?
“A mouse, you have mice in this store?” ntioning mice made Lu Hui’s color drain; she clutched Zhan Mingyan’s arm tightly.
“Where is the mouse?”
Zhan Mingyan held back a chuckle and quickly reassured her, “Mom, it’s okay now, I’ve chased the mouse away. It won’t co back.”
“No, I’ve heard that if a place has one mouse, there must be more of them. I’ll get the butler to find so rat poison for you to take care of them in your store,” Lu Hui surveyed the area anxiously, fearing a mouse might dart out from so corner.
