Chapter 878: 864. Can’t Hide It Anymore (3)

They had just reconciled not long ago; he couldn’t leave like this, he didn’t want to.

Black Jack raised his hand to embrace him, looked up at Bai Jue, and calmly asked, “Is there really no other way?”

Bai Jue shook his head.

“How much longer?” Black Jack asked.

Bai Jue hesitated, seeing the sorrowful looks on Mo Xiao and the others, not having the heart to tell them the cruel outco.

In the end, it was Mo Xiao who spoke up, “Bai Jue, just say it.”

“At most, two weeks.” Bai Jue lowered his gaze, and with those words, the hearts of Jian Luo and the others instantly plumted.

“Impossible, it can’t be like this,” Qiu Bo said agitatedly, getting up and running in front of Bai Jue, falling to his knees.

“Mr. Bai, I know you are highly skilled in dicine, please save the old master, I beg you.”

As he spoke, he kowtowed to Bai Jue.

Bai Jue quickly helped him up, “Qiu Bo, I will do my best, don’t be like this.”

Wiping away tears, Qiu Bo turned to look at the old master An, the sadness welling up unstoppable in his heart.

“Luo, let’s go outside,” Black Jack said as he looked at Mo Xiao, who remained speechlessly dazed, and whispered in Jian Luo’s ear.

“Let dad and great-grandpa have a mont.”

Jian Luo barely nodded, and Black Jack led him out, with Bai Jue following them out of the ward.

In the quiet corridor, the three of them sat on a bench.

“Bai Jue, isn’t there another dicine that could prolong great-grandpa’s life?” Jian Luo suddenly spoke up, his expression sowhat distant.

Bai Jue shook his head, “If there were, I would use it, but right now old master An’s body can’t withstand such strong dication. If we forcibly use dicine that’s too potent, it will backfire, and we might not even have two weeks left.”

At these words, Jian Luo lowered his head, hands covering his face, hiding the expression on his face.

Seeing him distressed, Black Jack stretched out a strong arm to pull him into an embrace. Jian Luo buried his head in his neck, and cold droplets fell through his fingers onto his shoulder.

Black Jack’s blue eyes darkened, his well-defined hand gently patting Jian Luo’s back, offering silent comfort.

The night was long, yet destined to be sleepless.

“How is this possible, who are you, why should I believe what you say?” In the living room, Zhou Qi held her phone, her face pale with shock.

The others, seeing her intense reaction, looked at her, puzzled.

“Do you have any evidence to prove what you’re saying is true?” Zhou Qi gripped the phone tightly, her fingertips trembling slightly.

Whatever the person on the other end of the phone said, Zhou Qi turned to glance at Zhao Xuan beside her, her eyes complex.

“Mom, why are you looking at

like that?” Zhao Xuan, noticing Zhou Qi’s gaze, felt a sudden jump in her heart, sensing that sothing was about to happen.

Zhou Qi put down the phone and stared intently at Zhao Xuan, asking tentatively, “Zhao Xuan, how has Xiang Cheng been lately?”

With that, Zhao Xuan felt a jolt in her heart.

Oh no, did she know?

That’s impossible; she had surely blocked the information. How could she have found out so quickly?

“Grandma, what made you think of asking about Xiang Cheng?” An Yu asked curiously.

Zhou Qi ignored her, continuing to stare at Zhao Xuan, and asked again, “What exactly is going on with Xiang Cheng?”

“Mom, what’s wrong with you, did the person on the phone just now say sothing to you?” Zhao Xuan changed the subject, “You mustn’t believe their words, they might be trying to drive a wedge between us.”

“Never mind what that person on the phone said, you answer my question first.” Zhou Qi brought the conversation back on track with a forceful tone.

“How is Xiang Cheng right now?”

“Mom, Xiang Cheng is obviously in the hospital recovering from his injuries,” Zhao Xuan said sheepishly.

“Really?” Zhou Qi looked at her suspiciously, her face growing darker as she rembered what the caller had said.

“Of course, it’s true,” Zhao Xuan replied, “Mom, what is actually bothering you?”

“Call the doctor or the nurse; I want to video call Xiang Cheng.” The more she thought about the caller’s words, the less calm she felt; she needed to see with her own eyes that Xiang Cheng was alright to be at peace.

“Mom, it’s so late, Xiang Cheng has already gone to sleep. Let’s wait until tomorrow, we can video call him then,” Zhao Xuan’s heart sank, but she still forced a smile on her face.

“No, I want to video call him right now,” Zhou Qi said firmly.

“Gran, what’s the matter with you? Why do you suddenly want to see Xiang Cheng so urgently?” An Yun noticed Zhou Qi was acting unusual, thinking back to her overreaction during the phone call.

The others were also confused by Zhou Qi’s behavior, glancing back and forth between her and Zhao Xuan.

“Zhao Xuan, is Xiang Cheng… has he passed away?” Zhou Qi asked loudly.

Before the words had finished, An Yun and the others were shocked.

An Zhonghui’s gaze sharply turned towards Zhao Xuan. When their eyes t, Zhao Xuan quickly avoided his probing stare, her heart pounding.

She forced herself to calm down and said, “Mom, who told you that? Don’t just believe what they say.”

“Then start the video call now,” Zhou Qi demanded.

“Mom, let’s wait until tomorrow. I promise I’ll let you video call Xiang Cheng then. It’s getting late now; you should rest soon too.”

If the previous phone call had caused Zhou Qi to beco suspicious, Zhao Xuan’s repeated deferrals now made her believe what the person on the phone had said even more.

“We don’t need to wait until tomorrow morning; I want to do it right now. If we don’t video call, I’m going to see Xiang Cheng myself – give

the address.”

An Yu and the rest, seeing Zhou Qi’s relentless pursuit and Zhao Xuan’s consistent refusals, couldn’t help but beco curious about the content of that phone call.

“Mom, can you not pressure

like this?” A flash of anger crossed the depths of Zhao Xuan’s eyes, but she still feigned a distressed look on her face.

Zhou Qi stood up, looking down at her from a position of authority, “I’m just asking you to help

video call Xiang Cheng. My request is not unreasonable, is it?”

“Mom, since you want the truth, I won’t hide it from you anymore,” Zhao Xuan’s eyes shifted, and she began to cry on cue.

She raised her hand to wipe the tears away and said with a choked voice, “Xiang Cheng has indeed passed away.”

The revelation struck like a thunderbolt, leaving everyone stunned.

Zhou Qi snapped back to reality and yanked Zhao Xuan up, “What did you say? Say it again – when did Xiang Cheng pass away, and why did he die?”

With Xiang Cheng gone, what would she tell Aman?

“Mom, I didn’t want this either, but you know Xiang Cheng’s condition as well, don’t you? The doctor had already said that he couldn’t last much longer in that state, and besides, Xiang Cheng was always uncooperative with his treatnt; the doctors were helpless,” Zhao Xuan said, tears streaming down.

“I didn’t tell you because I was afraid it would break your heart, and you wouldn’t be able to handle the news,” she continued.

Zhou Qi let go and collapsed onto the sofa, her expression blank, “When did this happen?”

“Today,” replied Zhao Xuan.

“Where is he now?”
