Chapter 1077: Shanshan Side Story (4)
Shanshan’s eyes lit up, and whoosh, she turned to look.
She t a pair of ice-cold eyes unguarded, her exquisite little face held an unfading frost, and even under the warm sunshine, his whole being radiated an aloofness that discouraged approach.
But there are always exceptions, those icy eyes softened gradually when they t Shanshan’s bright, sunny smile.
“It’s you!” Shanshan quickly got up from the ground and ran to him with small steps, “Do you also go to this kindergarten? Why haven’t I seen you before?”
The boy shook his head, “No.”
Shanshan blinked, stunned for a mont, then snapped back to reality, “Then how did you get in?”
The boy skipped her question and stretched out his hand, showing off a palm full of colorful candies resting silently in his palm.
“Want so?”
Shanshan’s small red lips ford a smile, her radiant smile dazzling his eyes, “Then I want the strawberry-flavored one.”
Saying so, she picked up a piece of candy wrapped in pink, peeled off the wrapper, and popped it into her mouth.
“Aren’t you eating?”
With the candy in her mouth, she asked indistinctly.
The boy stepped closer and placed the rest of the candy into her pocket, while Shanshan’s rosy cheeks blossod with a cute smile, “All for ?”
He humd softly, then withdrew his hand.
“By the way, what’s your na?” Shanshan munched the candy, puffing her cheeks in and out like a sly little squirrel.
“Last ti I told you my na, you can’t not tell
yours, otherwise that wouldn’t be very friendly.”
“Friend?” A hint of astonishnt flashed across the boy’s face.
Shanshan nodded with a smile, the boy was a good deal taller than her, and she had to stand on her tiptoes, leaning in close to whisper in his ear, “You’re the first friend I’ve ever made.”
The boy looked into the little girl’s obsidian-like eyes and a smile unconsciously curled on his lips, “Mu Chen, that’s my na.”
The monotone voice carried a bit more warmth.
“Mu Chen, you look really nice when you smile. Great grandpa said that children who smile often won’t have bad luck, so you should smile more, and then you won’t get taken away by bad people.” Shanshan repeated his na twice, then continued with a beaming face.
This was the second ti she said he looked nice when he smiled.
Mu Chen looked at her brightly smiling face and his lips curved slightly, “Understood.”
“Mu Chen, where do you live? Can I co to play with you later?” Shanshan looked up, her voice soft and sweet as she asked.
eting the expectation in her eyes, the words of refusal that reached Mu Chen’s lips were stuck in his throat.
As she waited in vain for his response, the brightness in Shanshan’s eyes gradually dimd, and she asked in a muffled voice, “Can’t I?”
Mu Chen, watching the little girl hang her head, losing her smile, felt a twinge of discomfort in his heart as well.
He hesitated, then reached out to touch the top of her head, stroking it gently, “I’m sorry, I don’t live in Beijing, and I have to catch a flight to a very, very far place soon.”
Shanshan’s delicate brows furrowed, “Where is this very, very far place?”
Mu Chen’s hand, stroking her head, paused, falling into silence.
Shanshan took hold of his hand proactively and gave it a shake, “Then can I take a plane to find you?”
The first friend she had made, and a very good-looking big brother at that, Shanshan was really reluctant to part with him.
Mu Chen shook his head, leading Shanshan to sulk, mist forming in her eyes.
“Don’t you want to be friends with
anymore?”
Her voice was clear and milky, heavy with nasal sounds.
Mu Chen saw her watery eyes and suddenly felt a bit panicky; at this mont, he seed for the first ti to resemble a child his age.
“No, don’t cry,” he said.
Shanshan sniffled, “Then why can’t I co to play with you?”
Mu Chen sighed, his brows revealing a maturity beyond his years, “Because there are a lot of bad people who want to catch , and if you ca to play with , it would be very dangerous.”
“I’m not scared, my daddy and mommy are very strong, and so are my uncle and godfather, I have lots of people who can protect .” Hearing that he didn’t want to be friends, Shanshan finally smiled, grabbing his hand, “I can protect you too.”
“Hehe.”
This ti, Mu Chen couldn’t help but laugh.
He reached out to wipe away the tears hanging from her lashes, his rosy lips curving into a brilliant smile, “Silly girl, since when does a girl protect a boy?”
“Shanshan is not silly.” Little Miss Shanshan was very displeased with the word silly, she was very clever, okay.
“That day, didn’t I protect you?”
Mu Chen was at a loss for words.
“Can I co to play with you, please?” Shanshan asked again.
Mu Chen gazed into her eyes, those deep, clear pupils clearly mirroring his own figure, the word “yes” almost slipped out.
But right now, he couldn’t promise, nor was he allowed to.
“I’m sorry, Shanshan,” he said in an extrely soft voice.
Shanshan let go of his hand and turned away without a word.
“Shanshan.”
Mu Chen chased after her, blocking her path.
“You just don’t want to be friends with , right? Then I don’t want to be friends with you either,” Shanshan pouted, her indignant expression resembling a bristled little kitten.
Mu Chen carefully reached for her hand, but she shook him off.
He touched his nose and gave a helpless smile, “Shanshan, how about we make a promise?”
“I’m not listening.” Shanshan covered her ears; babies can be stubborn too.
Mu Chen, amused, pulled down her hands, “Shanshan, when I beco stronger, after I’ve beaten all those bad people and can protect you, then I’ll co and find you, okay?”
“No, that will take too long,” Shanshan pouted her little red lips, still not satisfied.
“It won’t be very long, how about this, on your birthday each year I’ll co to see you and bring you a gift, how’s that?” Mu Chen continued to placate the little girl.
Shanshan tilted her head, her shiny black pupils rotating, “Then you can’t lie to , otherwise I’ll ignore you and won’t be your good friend anymore.”
“Okay,” Mu Chen agreed with a smile.
“Then let’s pinky promise, it’s a deal,” Shanshan brushed away her previous despondency, beaming like a flower in bloom, and stretched out her little pinky.
Mu Chen also extended his little pinky and they hooked fingers to seal the promise.
“Pinky promise a hundred years, whoever breaks it is a pig-headed monster,” she said with a soft, giggling voice.
“Mu Chen, my birthday is on May 2nd, you must rember it,” she stated.
Mu Chen murmured softly in acknowledgnt, “I won’t forget.”
At that mont, Del approached.
“Young master, it’s ti to go.”
Hearing he was leaving, Shanshan’s face showed reluctance, and she clung to his hand, “Mu Chen, you’re leaving so soon, can’t you go later?”
Mu Chen gently touched her little face, “Shanshan, I have to go now, but I will definitely co back to find you on your birthday.”
