''Watch your steps. There are hundreds of traps all around you so make sure to stick close to . Since you don't have a lunar token yet, these formations will still view you as outsiders. If you end up triggering any of them, even I may not be able to save you in ti!''
The old man paused for a brief mont but his steps continued to take him towards the depths of the darkness as his voice rang out once more
''My title is 'Thousand-faced demon' and I'm a phantom-class assassin, but you can just call Thousand-faced. In our guild, everyone refers to each other by their titles instead of their real nas so keep that in mind.''
The old man didn't doubt that Shun Long and his 'students' wore so kind of disguise just like he did, but the silver-robed elder still explained things thoroughly as they walked deeper inside.
His voice was the only thing that echoed out in the endless darkness of the passageway, as he guided them past the nurous traps that seed to be getting more and more powerful further in.
Of course, despite the absence of any light, Shun Long could still make out his surroundings to a certain extent using his soul sense so he wasn't overly worried about the man's intentions either.
Indeed, most of the traps in this place were enough to threaten middle and even late-stage Dao Emperors, but the old man seed to avoid them with incredible ease so none of them posed a threat to their group in the end.
Glancing in Thousand-faced's direction, Xingyi could tell that the elder had just avoided another powerful trap, as she finally took a deep breath and asked curiously
''Senior, did you say you are a 'phantom-class' assassin? Does this an that the 'Lunar Grave guild' has its own rankings?''
The old man's steps didn't pause, but for so reason, Shun Long could feel the man's lips curving into a thin smile before his voice rang out a few monts later
''You want to know if the guild has its own rankings? Hah. The answer is quite simple... it doesn't! This is not the classification of our 'Lunar Grave guild' but rather, the system used to grade assassins throughout the entire continent. Rember, this is not a sect or a rcenary company, but a guild of assassins! While cultivation base is important, the most important trait will always be your ability to kill your target and slip by unnoticed!''
The silver-robed elder didn't wait for Xingyi and the others to ask any more questions as he continued his explanation barely a mont later, with the thin smile having now vanished from his face
''There are 6 classes that are used to categorize assassins; Rogue, Wraith, Phantom, Harbinger, Void, and finally, Abyss-class. Although our guild doesn't prohibit anyone from choosing missions higher than their own class, the difference in skill between a Wraith-class assassin and a Phantom one can only be described as an 'uncrossable chasm'. It's so wide in fact, that even 10 Wraith-class assassins may not be able to complete a Phantom-class mission even if they all join hands!
Of course, cultivation base is still important, but it's not the deciding factor in determining your class. The higher level a target you manage to kill, the higher your class would be in the end.''
The old man's explanation was thorough but concise, and yet, Jiang Chen couldn't hide the look of puzzlent that had found its way on his face as he stared at the old man's disappearing back.
''The Lunar Grave guild doesn't prohibit its mbers from taking on higher-level missions? Does that an a Rogue-class assassin can take on an Abyss-level mission? If that's the case, what's the point of having all those classes? If one can take on any mission as a Rogue-class assassin why would they try to reach any of the higher-level classes?''
Hearing Jiang Chen's question, the old man nodded his head and smirked without turning around, as he answered after avoiding another trap on the ground
''Most Abyss-level missions will require you to kill high-profile Sovereign realm experts that have road the continent for hundreds of thousands of years. Although the guild won't stop you if you wish to throw your life away, I personally don't recomnd it. Besides, the division of classes isn't just a symbol of status. Although you are free to choose from any of the publicly listed missions as a newcor, there are also so special missions that only higher-class assassins have access to. The higher your class, the more benefits you'll be able to obtain as well, including paying a lower commission to the guild and even obtaining so rare treasures as a reward for certain missions.''
The silver-robed elder went on to explain how the guild's missions worked, along with the 'dos' and 'don'ts'.
It appeared that the way the 'Lunar Grave guild' operated was indeed quite... unique; The most surprising thing Shun Long found out, was that any mission could be accepted by an unlimited number of mbers at the sa ti, but only the one who completed it would be able to co back and claim the reward.
This ant that more than a handful of assassins could end up fighting over the sa mission without even knowing it!
Although that sounded simple and relatively fair at first glance, in a place like the 'Lunar Grave guild' where its own mbers didn't even know each others' identities, one could only imagine how much internal blood was going to be spilled over so of the more coveted missions!
...
Finally, a few minutes later, after passing through the last of the protective formations, Shun Long could sense the darkness around him rapidly receding as he found himself in the heart of a vast, spacious hall.
Before he could take a look at his surroundings however, 'Thousand-faced' turned around and glanced at him with a deep look, before the old man said seriously
''This is as far as I can take you. The hall master will be here soon. He'll be the one to assess your group before you can be accepted in the guild. Although this is just customary, you'll have to show him so of your strength... Best of luck!''
