Diane served a warm al for the Little Prince, but Jojo refused to move from his position, hugging Sisi tightly. So all Diane could do was push a table next to the bed and place the food on it. She instructed the Little Prince to eat if he felt hungry.

Jojo nodded. He had stopped crying lted gold, but his pupils stayed golden and they were really... ominous. Even Diane felt uneasy seeing such a gorgeous pair of eyes.

There was a sense of oppression and an innate instinctive fear that all beastn felt when they encountered soone far stronger than themselves.

That was why most beastn imdiately knelt and obeyed the Beast King upon eting him for the first ti—the sense of oppression was simply too overwhelming.

Diane was already a middle-aged woman with plenty of experience witnessing powerful figures. And although the Beast King was the strongest she had ever seen in her life, he was still not on par with the Little Prince’s golden eyes.

With the Beast King, Diane’s instinct simply told her to follow him so she would have a good life.

But with the Little Prince...

She felt that her heart would stop imdiately if she dared to anger him. Even though he showed no displeasure, the oppression and fear were too strong and too terrifying.

’Is it because he’s the King’s son? But why do I feel a different kind of fear from him?’ Diane pondered. ’The Beast King’s aura commands fear and respect, but the little prince’s aura commands complete submission, as if my life is nothing in his eyes...’

Unfortunately, she didn’t have much ti to think. She soon entered the maid’s quarters and saw Leah sitting while rubbing her head.

She looked angry for so reason, and Diane sensed that sothing was wrong with this woman.

First, Leah wasn’t heavily wounded like Ruela, even though she was supposed to guard the front door where the attacker had stord in.If she had been doing her job, she should have been badly injured—or even dead—by now.

Second, Leah’s wound was on her head. That ant she had likely been slamd into a wall and fallen. But why would the attacker do that when he could have simply slashed her neck or stabbed her, like he did to Ruela?

It didn’t add up, and Diane began to grow suspicious of this seemingly unassuming maid.

Thus, Diane walked toward Leah, and Leah imdiately feigned pain in her head. She looked timid as always and bowed politely.

"S-sorry, Mrs. Diane. I didn’t see you there. As you can see, my head is bleeding, and it’s too painful to do anything right now."

"Hm," Diane nodded nonchalantly. "I just want to ask if you rember anything about the attacker. You were guarding the front door, so you must have gotten a good look at his face, right?"

Leah held her breath. She knew she had to lie again.

She didn’t mind lying most of the ti. In fact, she had lied from day one by telling Ruela that she was grateful to be her maid, while in fact Leah couldn’t wait but to ruin that idiot’s life.

But when it was to cover up her own sin, a tinge of nervousness crept in.

"H-he was a well-built man wearing a mask, so I couldn’t see his face at all," Leah replied. "But I know he was a man for sure, and he was holding a knife."

"Which is strange, don’t you think?" Diane raised a brow. "For a well-built male beastman to bring a kitchen knife instead of sothing more lethal, like a sword."

Leah didn’t expect this old raccoon to be so observant. Yes, it was strange for a large man to wield a kitchen knife—and stranger still that he would drop it at the scene and flee.

’Damn it! I should’ve said the attacker was a woman. That would’ve been more believable,’ Leah cursed herself for being careless.

"Y-yes, I thought it was strange too. But I’m telling the truth!"

"Hmm... there’s nothing else we can do except wait for Ruela to wake up," Diane said.

Leah’s heartbeat raced the mont she heard that.

"R-Ruela isn’t dead?"

"She lost a lot of blood, and her vocal cords might be damaged, according to the doctor," Diane replied. "But she’s still alive and is expected to recover sooner or later."

"The Little Prince told that Ruela knows the attacker. I don’t know if the Prince’s statent can be held accountable, but it’s the only lead we have," Diane added."Oh, I also want to ask—do you know what happened inside the main chamber before the Beast King left? I was shocked to see the Prince’s eyes turn golden, and that he beca... blind."

Of course, Leah couldn’t say that she had watched everything unfold by peeking through a hole. Once again, she had to lie.

"I-I was busy preparing als for the Little Prince," Leah said. "I heard a commotion inside the main chamber, then heard the King’s grunts."

"I didn’t dare interrupt, so I waited outside," Leah continued, carefully omitting key details. "Then the King ca out and told to guard the door until he returned, so I did."

"And the attacker ca after that?" Diane asked.

"Yes, Mrs. Diane..."

There was no obvious hole in Leah’s story. Although Diane still felt sothing was off, she couldn’t accuse the maid without proof.

So Diane left to question the guards instead.

Leah’s face twisted the mont Diane disappeared from sight.

’Fuck. How is that idiot still alive? Did I not slash her throat deep enough?’ Leah thought darkly. If Ruela wakes up and tells everyone I attacked her, then I’m finished. I have to act before she wakes up.

Leah knew the easiest solution was to silence Ruela permanently, and she was more than willing to kill the girl she had grown up with.

She had never been so determined in her life.Since she was already neck-deep in this ss, it was better to act quickly and coldly—before anyone found out.
