However, when Kael’s bright crimson eyes t Sisi’s, all the rage bundled inside him vanished instantly, replaced by pure relief seeing that she had awakened and didn’t seem to be in pain.

He walked toward her and reached out, intending to touch her cheek to check for a fever or sothing similar. But Sisi nimbly dodged his hand, making it hover awkwardly in the air before Kael slowly retracted it.

He sat at the corner of the bed and asked, "How do you feel? I was shocked when you fainted at the training ground."

Sisi cleared her throat to ease the awkwardness between them. "I’m doing fine. I was just exhausted..."

"Mm, good. I’ll tell Vestor to take out so replenishing dicine from the treasury for you later."

"N-no need. I really am just exhausted..."

"I insist. You’ve overused your ntal power until you fainted. That’s not normal," Kael said.

Sisi had no reason to refuse anymore and simply thanked him out of necessity.

What followed after that was complete silence, turning an already awkward situation into sothing even more uncomfortable.

Jojo knew his father didn’t really know how to talk to Sisi. Maybe it was because the boy had never seen his father speak normally with anyone other than him.

In front of others, Kael always looked nacing and mighty, as if a mountain couldn’t even move him. But Jojo knew that wasn’t how he was when it was just the two of them.

Yet with Sisi around, his father turned into an awkward and nervous wolf. He didn’t even dare look her in the eyes.

...

...

’Ah, I need to help Daddy! If he doesn’t do anything, then Sisi won’t be my Mommy!’ Jojo thought before hopping off the bed.

He ran toward the entrance, and both Kael and Sisi asked at the sa ti, "Where are you going?"

"I want to play in the garden! Sisi and Daddy, you two talk together, okay? Jojo will be mad if you don’t!"

Without giving them a chance to reply, the little wolf boy rushed out of the room, leaving only Sisi and Kael behind.

Naturally, Kael should have conducted himself properly and left the chamber on his own because this was a female chamber.

But he didn’t want to.

His instincts urged him to stay by Sisi’s side a little longer, even if she didn’t want him there.

After confronting the possibility that Garou might like Sisi, Kael realized he needed to be more proactive. There was a real chance that Sisi would prefer a younger man who was bright and inexperienced, compared to soone who had been battered with life like him.

Yet talking to Sisi was far more difficult than fighting a horde of powerful beastn.

In fact, the nervousness hit him like an elephant, turning him into a sitting duck. the Beast King found himself helpless in front of such a beautiful yet petite woman.

He glanced at Sisi. She didn’t seem to mind his presence, but her usual cold expression made it impossible to tell whether she truly didn’t mind, or simply didn’t care enough to tell him to leave.

Kael swallowed and finally braced himself. "I’m sorry you had to witness what happened at the training ground. But beastn are not like humans. You need to exercise your power from ti to ti."

He thought Sisi must be upset with his overbearing behavior, especially since she was always gentle toward Jojo.

But to his surprise, she smiled. "There’s no need to apologize. What you’re doing isn’t wrong. But I don’t like that you wanted to execute soone over ."

Sisi finally looked directly at the Beast King.

She didn’t know why Kael looked so tense, but she assud he had dealt with sothing outside earlier—that must have been why his expression was dark when he entered the chamber.

"I told you before that I don’t want to be involved in your Beast Court," Sisi said firmly. "I am an outsider, and I will continue to be one. There will co a ti when I leave this palace, Kael."

Kael’s eyes widened. He lifted his head, his gaze locking onto hers.

There was no trace of pretense in her expression. She ant every word, and that realization hurt more than he expected.

Sisi truly had no reason to stay.

Still, Kael didn’t want to give up. Forcing her to stay would be his last resort, so he tried to persuade her instead.

"Why don’t you want to stay? You can tell if you need anything," Kael said. "Gold? Jewelry? Sothing from the human kingdom? I can get it for you."

Sisi chuckled. "I grew up as an orphan. Gold and jewelry don’t tempt , and I don’t want anything from the human kingdom either."

"Then where will you go if you leave?"

"To an orphanage or a nunnery," Sisi replied calmly. "So I can spend the rest of my life without having to marry a man."

She saw Kael as her equal, so she didn’t hide anything from him.

She said it lightly, but her words pierced Kael’s heart like a blade.

Because in his imagination, his fated mate would make the sa choice.

She wouldn’t want another man, so she would choose a place where mating wasn’t required at all.

But that was only his imagination. In reality, Kael had already decided to mate with Sisi—whether she wanted it or not.

"But he will be sad if you leave. Do you not want him anymore?" Kael asked.

He was referring to Jojo, of course.

Yet for so reason, his heart twisted as if the question were ant for himself.

Do you not want anymore?

"Of course I love him," Sisi sighed. "But he’ll grow up eventually and forget about . You should know that too, Kael."

"You can’t say that," Kael insisted. "He will never forget you—not in this lifeti, at least."

Sisi sensed a strange ambiguity in his words, but she assud they were still talking about Jojo.
