Chapter 69: Modern Missile vs Dragon

anwhile, on the ground, the fight was still raging on between the Silver Vanguards and the Red Dragon.

Kael was put out of commission and lay motionless beneath the cracked stone, his sword a few ters away, half-buried in debris.

"Kael... Kael, stay with ..." Liora’s voice trembled as her hands glowed brighter, pressing against his chest.

"Healing Light—Radiant Surge!"

The light intensified, spreading across his body, trying to force life back into him. But the damage was too deep. His breathing was shallow, uneven.

Selene stepped in front of her, staff raised, her expression strained.

"...You won’t get another hit on him," she muttered.

Above them, the Red Dragon roared again, its wings spreading wide as heat shimred around its body. It stepped forward, each movent heavy enough to shake the ground.

Seraphine didn’t take her eyes off it.

"...We change approach," she said. "We can’t hold it here."

Selene nodded once.

"...Then we push it back."

She planted her staff firmly.

Mana surged again, stronger than before, the air around her distorting violently.

"Grand Arcane—Gravity Bind!"

A wave of force shot forward and slamd into the dragon’s chest.

For a brief mont—

It stopped.

Its body dipped slightly, wings straining as if sothing was dragging it down.

"...Now!" Selene shouted.

Seraphine moved instantly.

She drew again, faster this ti, not aiming for precision—

But volu.

"Wind Barrage—Hundred Pierce!"

Arrows ford around her in a tight arc before launching all at once, striking the dragon’s upper body, its wings, its neck.

Impact after impact.

Small flashes across its scales.

The dragon pushed through.

With a violent beat of its wings, it broke the gravity hold completely, sending a shockwave outward.

Selene staggered back.

"...It broke it...?"

Seraphine clicked her tongue.

"...Its resistance is too high."

The dragon inhaled.

"Selene!" Seraphine shouted.

"Arcane Guard—Full Barrier!"

A wider shield ford in front of them, thicker than before.

The dragon released it.

A massive stream of fire crashed into the barrier, engulfing everything in front of it.

The shield held for a second.

Then cracks spread rapidly.

"I can’t hold this!" Selene shouted, her voice straining.

Suddenly, from the corner of her vision, she noticed sothing flying directly towards the dragon.

"What is that..." Selene mumbled as she followed its trail. It was so fast, like Seraphine’s arrow but it didn’t produce smoke.

Seconds later.

A huge explosion erupted the mont it crashed onto the jaws of the dragon.

The force alone snapped its head sideways mid-breath, cutting off the stream of fire instantly. Flas scattered wildly into the sky instead of forward, breaking apart into useless bursts.

Sothing fell, a chunk of flesh and bone crashed onto the ruined street below with a sickening thud.

"...What..." Selene whispered.

The dragon let out a roar but it wasn’t the sa.

It was broken and distorted.

Because half of its lower jaw was gone.

Its teeth, once lined in rows, now exposed in a grotesque, uneven ss as blood poured freely from the wound. The heat around it warped violently, but this ti it wasn’t controlled.

It staggered.

Mid-air.

Struggling to stabilize itself.

"...It... it got hit..." Liora said, her voice shaking.

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed, locking onto the damage.

"...No..."

Selene slowly lowered her staff, still staring.

"...We didn’t do that."

Kael coughed weakly behind them, barely conscious, his vision blurred.

"...What... the hell was that..."

The dragon tried to roar again. But only a mangled, guttural sound ca out.

Its head shook violently, as if trying to process what had just happened.

Seraphine’s eyes widened slightly.

"Marcus."

Selene turned to her.

"What?"

Seraphine didn’t look away from the dragon.

"...That wasn’t magic," she said quietly.

Her gaze shifted upward.

Into the sky.

"That was him."

Marcus, was on the helicopter, reloading the Javelin launcher. He looked down coldly on the dragon, steady even as the aircraft hovered.

"Target still up," he said.

"Copy," the gunner replied. "You’re clear for another shot."

Marcus rested the launcher against his shoulder, locking his gaze onto the dragon below. Even from this height, the damage was obvious. Half its jaw gone, blood pouring out, its movents no longer clean.

"...You’re tougher than I expected," Marcus muttered.

The targeting system locked.

A sharp tone.

He didn’t hesitate.

"Firing."

He pulled the trigger.

The missile launched. A sharp burst as it cleared the tube, then it arced upward before diving again toward its target.

Seraphine saw it first.

"...Another one," she said.

Selene’s eyes widened.

"...Again?!"

The dragon noticed it this ti.

Even in its damaged state, its instincts kicked in trying to evade it but it was too late.

The missile adjusted and closed the distance in seconds.

Then a direct hit, right into the upper torso near the base of its wing.

The explosion was even louder this ti.

A violent burst of fire and force tore through the dragon’s body, ripping scales apart and sending fragnts flying in every direction.

The impact knocked it completely off balance.

Its wing snapped awkwardly, the structure no longer holding cleanly.

The dragon dropped hard.

It crashed into the ruins below, smashing through stone and debris, carving a path across the street as it skidded to a halt.

A broken roar echoed from within the smoke.

"...That... that did it..." Liora whispered.

Selene stared, unable to look away.

"...That wasn’t even a spell..."

Seraphine stepped forward slowly, eyes locked on the crash site.

"...No," she said.

Her grip on the bow tightened.

"That’s sothing else entirely."

Behind them, Kael coughed again, barely lifting his head.

"Impossible..."

Marcus lowered the launcher slightly.

"You are still alive huh?" he muttered under his breath. "Then one last missile would do the job."

He reached for another round, loading it smoothly into the launcher.

Marcus locked in.

The targeting system beeped again.

"Firing."

The third missile launched. It arced upward again before diving sharply toward the dragon.

The dragon saw it, but it couldn’t move properly anymore.

Seconds later, the missile struck, directly at the upper torso, near the chest.

The explosion that followed was the largest yet.

A violent burst of fire and force engulfed the dragon completely, tearing through what remained of its defenses.
