The tall boots clanging on the steel staircase echoed 'bang bang' before their owner took a light leap down from the high platform and towards the exit of the corridor.
The girl's short lavender hair, hands stuffed in the pockets of her jacket, and denim shorts below all showcased a youthful and rebellious style. When she passed by a store, she paused for a few seconds to look at her reflection in the glass, then continued on her way.
Walking down the street, more shops appeared on both sides, their various colors of light and signs cast a kaleidoscope onto the ground. People occasionally entered and exited, and every now and then, the sounds of passersby chatting and laughing could be heard.
"Buzz buzz—" A vibration from the personal device in her pocket prompted the girl to take it out and answer.
"Yeah, I know, I'll be there right away. How about you guys, has everyone arrived?"
...
"Alright, hanging up now." After putting away the personal device, her gaze shifted towards a high-rise in the distance, with the dazzling sign 'Diamond Hotel.'
That must be the place. The girl headed in that direction and soon disappeared into the crowd.
On the 14th floor of the hotel, in a room.
Colorful lights spun, and about 30 people gathered here. So were sitting at tables, so chatting by the windowsill, others road around with glasses in hand.
Soon, the door opened and the girl with short lavender hair entered, drawing the attention of a few who had been waiting in a corner.
"Clara, over here~"
They waved to each other and then walked over to sit down, quickly starting to chat about the changes and events of the past few years.
"Most of the junior high classmates are here, with a few exceptions," soone counted.
"Who's missing?" a girl beside asked curiously.
"Hexia didn't co, Lina probably didn't dare to, Jones has been doing special training to prepare for military academy exams, and two others were busy too."
"With Hexia's current fa and status, she definitely wouldn't attend. Looking back, I really regret it. If I had built a good relationship with her back then, maybe I'd be soaring high by now," soone lanted regretfully.
"Ah, exactly, I often dream of regretting it too, sigh." Another person chid in while Clara played with her personal device on the side without speaking.
"By the way, Clara, aren't you Hexia's elentary school classmate? Does she still keep in touch with her old friends?" soone asked curiously, unable to hold back.
Clara looked up and replied to the eagerly waiting girl across from her, "I don't know."
"Hey, how could you not know, you—" She wanted to ask more, but others quickly pulled her away.
Clara just shook her head slightly without paying anymore attention. If it weren't for a few junior high friends she was close to, she would have skipped such gatherings just like Hexia.
After all, such reunions were not so much about cherishing old friendships; they were more about everyone wanting to see how their forr classmates were doing, assuaging their own anxieties and insecurities. If the relationships were genuinely good, they wouldn't need a reunion to get together and have fun.
I won't co next ti, Clara decided to herself. Anyway, when graduation cos next year, it will probably be the sa old comparisons and boasting about who went to which prestigious company, who got into university, and whose family arranged a career for them, and so on.
As they talked, the conversation shifted from Hexia, who was now at the peak of popularity in the Star Domain, to the Academy, and then to their current situations.
"I'm already Sequence 3. I reckon I could make it to Sequence 4 before graduation next year," one of the boys announced proudly, eliciting a wave of envy from everyone.
Most of the people here were still at Sequence 2, with a small portion possibly reaching Sequence 3 before graduating from the fourth year. To be at Sequence 4 by graduation would likely be just 1–2 people in the entire class.
For the average person, graduating from high school ant entering the workforce, with Transcendent abilities typically stagnating at the level reached at graduation, around Sequence 2. A few would rise to Sequence 3 over several years, but with aging, more distance from studying, forgetting knowledge, and so on, it beca difficult to advance further, thus remaining fixed at that point.
Those who truly had Talent were usually sifted out through education. Only if one achieved the strength of Sequence 4 by graduation could one leverage the status of a new graduate to enter a large corporation as a core staff mber.
"Clara."
"Clara."
"What's up?" The girl ca back to her senses and turned to look at her companion.
"I was talking to you just now and you didn't respond, were you daydreaming?" She grabbed Clara's hand, poised to tickle her.
"Is it because you've taken a liking to Suren? He just said he could reach Sequence 4 before graduation, and a lot of girls were jealous." Saying this, she whispered in Clara's ear.
"And let tell you, but don't tell anyone else, Dudu has been trying to get closer to Suren since the vacation started this sester. She always brings him up in group chats, asking about his life and showing concern. Tsk tsk, that look on her, we girls all understand what it ans," she shared.
"Dudu is so vain and boastful, I've disliked her since before, but back then she was close with Lina, and I didn't dare to provoke her. She's still the sa now, really annoying." As Clara listened to her companion spill many conflicts among the girls, she realized that there was a lot she had missed, having been carefree and indifferent in the past. It seed she had overlooked plenty of gossip.
