Chapter 74: Sharing a Bed
“What about the raven?”
I asked again, rembering the raven perched on Helena's shoulder.
“That raven seems to have been with her for a long ti, and she doesn't allow anyone to touch it. But I am certain that it is no ordinary raven.”
Charlotte replied.
“This is all I know.”
With that, she stopped in front of a door.
“We have arrived at our room.”
I didn't ask why she used the word "our," but after Charlotte opened the door, I looked inside curiously.
The room was decorated in a typical Victorian style, and a faint scent of roses wafted through the air.
The room was much larger than I had imagined.
In the center of the spacious bedroom was a four-poster bed, with lavender silk curtains that shimred softly in the sunlight.
On the bedside table was an exquisite little night light with a lampshade made of stained glass.
The bed was large, big enough for two people to lie down together.
“Are we.... sleeping in the sa bed?”
I asked.
“If you mind, I can sleep on the floor,” Charlotte said with a calm expression.
Hearing Charlotte's words, I quickly waved my hands.
“No, no, no, that's not what I an! How could I let you sleep on the floor? This bed is so big, it's perfectly fine for the two of us.”
With that, I walked into the room.
Looking around, besides the large bed, there was also an exquisite dressing table with various costics and jewelry on it.
Against the wall was a huge wardrobe that looked like it could hold a lot of clothes.
In the corner, there was a desk and a comfortable chair, with a few books and a table lamp neatly placed on the desk.
I walked curiously to the desk and looked at the books on it.
Most were literary works and historical texts, but one of them caught my attention.
“'Fundantals of Quintessence Studies'?”
I picked up the book and opened the title page.
“Father asked to study that,” Charlotte explained, walking to my side.
“He wanted to understand so basic supernatural knowledge, but what he doesn't know is that I am already a Shepherd.”
Hearing this, I was slightly stunned and turned to look at Charlotte.
“You're a Shepherd?”
“Shepherd of Order, Primordial Water Rank.”
Charlotte answered calmly.
Hearing this, my eyes widened even more.
“Primordial Water Rank... doesn't that an you're much stronger than ?”
I said, a bit embarrassed, “I thought I was here to assist you, but it turns out I'm the one who needs your help.”
“Strength doesn't decide everything. Everyone has their own strengths,” Charlotte shook her head slightly.
“I believe you must have unique talents as well. Otherwise, Father wouldn't have specifically appointed you as my knight.”
Her tone was still calm, but I could hear a hint of encouragent in it.
This made relax a little.
She put down the book in her hand, then walked to the window and looked up at the crimson crescent moon in the sky.
“It's just like the real thing....”
“What's like the real thing?”
Charlotte stood behind and asked, puzzled.
“Ah, it's nothing....” I shook my head, “So what should we do next?”
Hearing my question, Charlotte pondered for a mont, then said:
“It will be curfew soon. The only thing we can probably do is rest.”
“Then let's rest first,” I said, turning and walking towards the large bed.
She sat on the edge of the bed, her palm gently stroking the soft sheets, feeling the silky touch.
“This bed is even softer than the one at The Golden Stag Hotel.... It's so nice to be rich. As expected, I can only enjoy this kind of thing when I'm dreaming.”
I sighed in self-deprecation, then lay down on the bed.
Lying on the soft bed, feeling the silky touch, I closed my eyes and tried to relax, but my mind was constantly replaying the various events of the day.
Alexander Holman's advice, the Michel family's inheritance struggle, Charlotte's background—everything confused .
Just then, I heard the sound of rustling clothes.
I opened my eyes in confusion and saw Charlotte standing by the bed, her back to the moonlight, unbuttoning her clothes at a leisurely pace.
“Wait, what are you doing?”
I shot up from the bed, my eyes wide as I looked at Charlotte.
Do knights provide this kind of service too?
I've never heard of it??
“Getting ready for bed.”
Charlotte replied calmly, her hands not stopping.
Soon, she had taken off her outer clothes, leaving only her white undergarnt.
Her slender body looked particularly soft and beautiful under the warm, jade-colored light, her fair skin reflecting a caral-like glow.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but swallow.
Although we were both female, I had to admit, Charlotte's figure was almost perfect.
“Do.... do you usually sleep like this?”
I asked, stuttering a bit.
“Mm.”
Charlotte nodded, then lifted the covers and lay down beside .
Our bodies were almost touching, and I could even clearly feel the warmth from Charlotte's body, as well as the faint scent of roses.
(This is too close.... and isn't this a dream?)
I shifted uncomfortably, trying to create so distance.
Sensing my movent, Charlotte turned her head, her ruby-like eyes looking directly at .
“What's wrong?” she asked, “You look nervous.”
“No, it's nothing....”
I forced a smile.
“I'm just not used to sleeping with soone else.... that's all.”
“Is that so...”
Charlotte lowered her eyes, seeming to be thinking about sothing.
A mont later, she said softly: “I understand, I'm sorry.”
With that, she got up again.
“Wait, where are you going?”
“I'm going to sleep on the sofa,” Charlotte replied calmly, already at the edge of the bed.
“No, you don't have to, really!”
I quickly reached out and grabbed Charlotte's wrist.
“That's not what I ant... I'm just a little unused to it. You don't have to sleep on the sofa. This bed is so big, it's perfectly fine for both of us.”
Charlotte stopped and looked back at .
“Are you sure?”
She asked softly.
I nodded, then let go of Charlotte's hand.
“Yes, so... you can just sleep here.”
Hearing this, Charlotte was silent for a mont, then lay back down on the bed.
“Sorry,” Charlotte said softly, “I don't want to make you uncomfortable.”
“It's fine....”
I smiled, a little embarrassed.
The two of us lay side by side on the bed, and for a while, no one spoke.
There was only the sound of each other's breathing in the room.
Unconsciously, I felt my eyelids grow heavy, and then I fell into a deep sleep.
Until a shrill scream startled from my sleep.
“What happened?”
I snapped my eyes open and turned to look at Charlotte, only to find that she had reacted a step faster than .
I had just sat up, but Charlotte had already pulled out a sword cane from sowhere, unsheathed it, and was protecting from behind her.
The room was dark, with only the moonlight seeping in from the window barely illuminating a small area.
“What was that just now?”
I asked in a low voice, while my other hand was already preparing to summon 【Crescent Moon】.
Charlotte didn't answer.
Her gaze was fixed on the door, as if waiting for sothing.
After a long while, she slowly let down her guard and put away her weapon.
“It seems soone has broken the rules.”
Charlotte said, then returned to my side.
“It's nothing, Miss lantha, as long as we don't go out, it will be fine.”
With that, Charlotte lay back down, no longer concerned about the scream just now.
Hearing this, I frowned and looked at Charlotte in disbelief.
“That's it?”
I couldn't help but ask.
“Soone might be in danger, shouldn't we go and see?”
Charlotte turned her head, her ruby-like eyes glinting in the darkness.
“Rules are rules, Miss lantha. The rules set by Father cannot be broken. If soone chooses to break the rules, then they must bear the consequences. Besides, one less enemy eliminated is not a bad thing for us.”
I opened my mouth, wanting to retort, but didn't know what to say.
I could feel an unquestionable finality in Charlotte's words.
Just then, Charlotte suddenly spoke:
“However, if you are really concerned...”
Her tone carried a hint of hesitation.
“We can go and check the situation tomorrow morning.”
