Chapter 37: Allen

At Vilnia Randell's ho, l sat in front of the dining table, watching Vilnia Randell's busy figure in the kitchen.

The air was filled with the sweet aroma of raspberries and syrup, making one's mouth water.

“Do you need any help?”

l asked, looking at Vilnia Randell's back.

Hearing this, Vilnia Randell turned and showed a brilliant smile to l.

“No need. Just sit there and wait patiently,” she said, giving a playful wink.

“There will be a place for you to help in a little while.”

Hearing this, l nodded lightly, then aimlessly looked around.

Vilnia Randell's parents were both rchants.

Their monthly inco ranged from sixty to one hundred pounds, which was considered a wealthy class in Dunke City.

The interior decor was simple and cozy.

The wallpaper was a faint beige, dotted with a few still-life oil paintings.

The curtains were a light blue cotton fabric, which looked particularly soft in the sunlight.

In addition, Vilnia Randell's ho also had a dedicated wine cabinet and a display cabinet for all sorts of peculiar items.

(Maybe if I just took one thing down from there, it could cover all of Veronica's expenses for four years of college.)

l's mind was wandering.

Just then, Vilnia Randell's voice pulled all her scattered thoughts back.

“All done!”

Vilnia Randell poured the boiled raspberry jam over the finished pudding.

“Try it,” she said, placing the pudding in front of l, her eyes glinting with expectation.

The surface of the pudding was smooth, and the dark red of the jam looked particularly enticing in the sunlight.

l picked up the spoon and gently scooped a small piece into her mouth.

The pudding lted in her mouth.

Paired with the jam, it was sweet with a hint of sourness, and the texture was rich and delicate.

“How does it taste?”

Vilnia Randell sat across from l, propping her chin up with her hands and staring at her without blinking.

“It's delicious.”

l nodded, telling the truth.

“The aroma of the raspberries and the texture of the pudding are a perfect match.”

“That's good,” Vilnia Randell breathed a sigh of relief.

“I thought you'd find it too sweet.”

“Aren't you eating?”

l glanced at Vilnia Randell.

Seeing that she hadn't prepared a pudding for herself, she asked.

“Of course I am.”

Hearing this, Vilnia Randell laughed.

“Do you rember what we talked about?”

She said, then leaned forward slightly, looking at l with expectation.

l was stunned for a mont, then understood what she ant.

So, she gently scooped a spoonful of pudding and brought it to Vilnia Randell's mouth.

Sunlight slanted through the floor-to-ceiling window onto the floor.

The air was filled with the sickly sweet aroma of the raspberry pudding.

“Mmm, delicious.”

Vilnia Randell narrowed her eyes in satisfaction, her tongue lightly licking the jam that lingered at the corner of her lips.

“Speaking of which, how did you defeat that guy?”

Vilnia Randell suddenly asked.

“You only beca a Shepherd a week ago. Logically, you should still be in the Developnt Phase. How did you defeat that fanatic? And it seems you can also use mystical arts?”

l's hand paused.

She put down the spoon, and her eyes beca a little dazed.

Seeing this, Vilnia Randell chuckled softly.

“Don't be nervous, darling.”

She said.

“I'm just curious, that's all. Logically, you shouldn't have any way of coming into contact with these things. And from the looks of it, those pseudo-sages seed to be coming for you. Did sothing happen between you and the Omniscience Society?”

“Actually….”

l hesitated for a mont, then said: “The day I was chosen to beco a Shepherd, my big sister took to Saint Margaret's Church. The one who welcod at the ti was Father Oliver.”

“I see…. That makes sense then.”

Vilnia Randell nodded gently.

“I also learned Shadow Trick from Father Oliver. But I didn't expect you to go and learn Void Walk. That costs twenty Pounds.”

“Mmm… I tried a little.”

l laughed.

“Actually, the night I beca a Shepherd, I ran into a woman nad Jessica when I was taking out the trash. She was a mber of the Omniscience Society. I was targeted by her at the ti, but her condition didn't seem to be very good, so I ended up killing her in self-defense.”

l told Vilnia Randell about her experience, but she made so modifications to certain details.

Because the white dove had said that she was different from other Shepherds.

She was a Shepherd personally chosen by the Red Moon.

l didn't know what being personally chosen by the Red Moon ant, but her alert instincts told her that it was best not to talk about it, if she didn't want to attract unnecessary trouble.

“You killed that person nad Jessica, and then she beca your flock?”

Vilnia Randell asked, seemingly not caring about the insignificant fact that her beloved had already killed soone.

“Mmm… I sacrificed her to the Red Moon.”

l said, shaking her head.

“As a gift, the Red Moon gave a portion of the knowledge from her mind—knowledge about making potions, and also information about a secret eting, and information on a few other Shepherds.”

“Other Shepherds?”

Vilnia Randell suddenly thought of sothing, then quickly asked:

“Try to rember carefully. Was there anyone nad Allen in there?”

Hearing this, l was slightly stunned.

She then carefully recalled the information she had received that night.

A mont later, she slowly nodded.

“There was indeed a person nad Allen,” l said.

“If I rember correctly, he seems to be a very important person in the Omniscience Society.”

Hearing the na, Vilnia Randell's brows imdiately furrowed.

“It really is him…”

“Bang!”

The wooden door was roughly pushed open.

A man rushed into the room, then grabbed the wine bottle from the table and drank it heartily.

The other people in the room were initially cautious, but after they saw the man's features clearly, they lowered their guard.

“Where's the sacrifice? Did you bring it back?”

The man didn't answer right away.

Only after drinking most of the bottle of wine did he throw the bottle aside and grumble: “The Fifth Departnt is here!”

He threw the bird-beak mask and syringe in his hand to the side, then annoyedly grabbed his hair.

His face was full of anger and frustration, and the sll of alcohol filled his breath.

“I almost had her! Damn it!”

Hearing this, the other people in the room all frowned.

“Are you saying that the Fifth Departnt appeared?”

One of the n wearing glasses asked.

“Yes, Benjamin and Smithson were both caught,” the man nodded.

“Then why were you able to escape?”

The man with glasses frowned.

As soon as he spoke, everyone imdiately looked at the man with vigilance.

“What do you an? You're suspecting ?”

Seeing that he was being suspected, the man imdiately flew into a rage.

“I almost lost my life for the organization, and you're suspecting ?!”

“This is a necessary suspicion. The people of the Order have many tricks.”

The man with glasses frowned.

“This is also for the organization.”

“Because I didn't get tangled up with that The Baptized girl. I went after the Container!”

The man roared.

“But who the hell would've thought that she, a Developnt Phase Shepherd, would be able to use Void Walk?!”

As he said this, he slamd his fist hard on the table.

“She played with like a dog, and then the people from the Fifth Departnt showed up. I heard the commotion in the kitchen. I took advantage of them dealing with Smithson and Benjamin and escaped through the window!”

“Void Walk?”

The man with glasses frowned.

“Are you sure you didn't see wrong?”

The man roughly wiped the wine stains from the corner of his mouth.

A hint of annoyance flashed in his eyes: “Am I so stupid I can't even tell the difference? That little bitch disappeared and reappeared right in front of . What else could it be but Void Walk?!”
