There was a queue to get into Club Volta but one thing I learned from our past experiences was that Miho really doesn’t like queues.

And it probably wouldn’t do us any good at this point to have any incident outside the club now.

We walked straight to the door where the bouncers were, who naturally gestured for us to go back to the queue.

According to Shin though, they were expecting a delivery today, so that’s where I ca in - with my Tiger as the bodyguard.

"We are here to make a delivery for President Ryu"

I tapped on the suitcase as I told the bouncer.

The big man looked at , then at Miho, then at again.

"What are you delivering?"

"Thai food."

"Which restaurant?"

"Lotus and Lemongrass"

It was stupid as hell. This ’code na’. But now that I officially beca a professional drug courier - and soon to be an accomplice to a mass murder - my sense of humor deserted .

"Wait here."

The bouncer told us with a nod of acknowledgnt, said sothing to his walkie-talkie, and in a minute or so another big man ca out through the front door and led us in.

"I didn’t expect it would be girls doing this job." The man comnted as we walked along the edge of the dance floor. There was loud electronic dance music playing and each hit of the kick drum made my heart pounce. The music was so loud that nobody down here could probably hear the screams for help and whatever hell Miho would unleash upstairs.

"We are not here to chat."

Miho cut him off coldly. I thought it was unnecessary and would have thought it’d have been better to co across as cordial and as harmless as possible, but the little smile that appeared on the man’s face told that Miho knew the right mannerisms and I didn’t.

I’d better just keep my mouth shut and say only what Shin told to say.

I looked around and the place was packed. It was people in their twenties. Good looking n and won. All very trendily dressed. Rocking their bodies back and forth and sideways, occasionally jumping.

Friday night. Going out. Hooking up.

This was sothing I’d never done even in my student days.

I wondered if my life would have turned out differently if I did.

"Take the stairs. A waiter will take you further."

The tall man saw us off at the bottom of the stairs and without any further word or hesitation, we climbed up the stairs. The suitcase was rather heavy but it was my job as the courier to handle it apparently. A bodyguard wasn’t to touch the delivery goods under any circumstances.

I guess that made sowhat special.

Not that I wanted to be.

Once we reached the second floor the music was less deafening but still excitingly loud. Here were the tables where people sat in groups looking down at the dance floor. The tables were mostly filled with a mix of won and n and a lot of expensive liquor bottles. This area wasn’t for students in their early 20s. Unless you were girls, of course, in which case you’d be sitting here drinking with n who were a little older and a lot richer.

I imagined that on the second floor where there were private rooms, the won there might be a little younger, n quite older and hell of a lot richer.

"Thank you for your patronage. How may I help you?"

A waiting staff asked politely. A rather young and handso man. Nothing like the bulky bouncer at the door another tall man who led us through the first floor. He must have known what we were here for but asked us nevertheless, and I was already inford by Shin that this was yet another checkpoint.

"We are going to the VIP rooms. Room number 13."

"Have you made your booking?"

"Under the na Jin Minsu."

"Co this way please."

The waiting staff took us through the second floor this ti. There was no secret passage or anything like that here for this type of shady deliveries. Everything was out in the open and we walked through the regular custors. Perhaps having so hidden passage or sothing would have made the place more suspicious if there ever was a police raid in the place.

Once we reached the other end of the floor again, the staff stopped in front of a glass door, keyed in the six-digit numbers, and asked us to step through as the door slid open.

"Please take the stairs. Another staff will show you the way upstairs."

The fourth floor was where the boss was - President Ryu as he was called - and the third floor was where I was told the private rooms were.

"Welco to Club Volta. May I ask which room you are looking for?"

A staff in tuxedo at the top of the stairs asked us again as we made our final steps up.

So this is the third checkpoint.

"We are looking for sowhere more private."

"I see. Please allow to help you with your bag."

With that, the staff reached out and tried to take my bag, but Miho quickly grabbed his wrist, twisted it around behind his back, and kicked the back of his knees to bring him to the ground in one swift motion. This wasn’t part of the ’routine’ or ’procedure’ that I was told so I was a little startled, but I quickly realized that if they were expecting this delivery to be real and took Miho as the bodyguard, this was exactly the reaction they must have been expecting so it must have been a form of testing as well.

"Do not touch the goods." She growled and let him go.

"My apologies." The staff got up, bowed deeply in apology, and continued to lead us through the narrow corridor.

So this was the first Corridor of Death that Miho was supposed to fight her way through.

At this point, I was glad that the plan changed. Each side of the corridor was lined with doors and anybody could have popped out of these doors at any mont and attacked her from behind as we passed through. It would have been a suicidal mission no matter how well-trained Miho was.

When we reached the end of the Corridor of Death, the only thing that stood between us and the fourth floor was a closed door and two insanely bulky n guarding it.

The staff on the third floor said nothing and just turned back to walk away, and the left one of the two silently asked with his eyes the final question I needed to answer before heading up to the boss’ floor.

"Pigeon."

With that, they opened the door and we walked up the stairs to the fourth floor.
