Suyoung and I went to an upmarket Chinese restaurant that offered a dinner set nu with 8 courses.
Great.
Although I had to tell her that I wasn’t really up for prawns.
After a brief ntion of Minji’s tragic death, which neither of us wanted to dwell on for too long, and so general chit-chat about how life has been, Suyoung started to bring up a subject that I’ve never been too happy to talk about as the shark’s fin soup arrived.
"So, are you seeing anyone now?"
Well, I wanted to say I was, and yes, technically I was.
But if I told her that I was she’d definitely shower with a barrage of questions about what he’s like and all that. So it was better just to deny, to which she replied with a surprising enthusiasm.
"Great!"
What the heck is so great about that?
"Erm, OK. How about you?"
"Ah, I’m too busy to date anyone. But it sounds like your workload is on the light side, right?"
"I guess you could say that, yes."
"You know, I know this one guy who’s super cool - and super-rich. A very successful man. He earns tons. He’s good-looking. He’s fun. He’s great."
"Are you interested in him?"
"Not exactly my style."
"OK."
"But would you be interested in having a blind date? I could set you up."
"No. I’m not interested in seeing anyone now."
"Aw, co on. You are young! You should enjoy your life."
Well, we are the sa age. So what are you talking about?
"I’m fine, really. But thank you for your consideration. Really."
"Why don’t you give it a chance?"
"Why don’t you give him a chance yourself?"
"Well... he’s not soone who’d be interested in... soone like ."
"What’s that supposed to an?"
"Look at . Haha."
Then Suyoung opened up her palms toward herself, implying that it was her looks that he wouldn’t like.
"Ah, don’t be like that. You are fun. Good personality. And you don’t look as bad as you think. OK, that didn’t sound flattering. I an you look perfectly fine."
"How would you rate ?"
"I don’t like rating people’s looks."
"Please, and be honest."
Anything 7 and above would have been an insulting lie. And anything 5 and below would have been disappointing even for soone with realistic self-perception.
"Solid six."
"Aw, you are so kind."
"Seriously, solid six. Pushing seven easily if you dress up."
Suyoung’s lack of confidence in her looks led to her wearing mostly rather modest clothes. Not that it was a bad thing in my book.
"Thanks heh. But now, ask how I would rate you."
"I don’t want to be rated."
"I put you up there between eight and nine."
"You are kidding ."
"And you just have the right look for him."
"How do you know his taste?"
"Well, we are in quite friendly relations. You know, like a male-human friend."
Implying that he’s just a human friend who happens to be a male. Right.
"Like seriously, I’ve never slept with him."
I’m not surprised.
"I believe you."
"So it’s totally OK for you to sleep with him."
"I’m not interested."
"You haven’t even t him!"
"Seriously, I’m fine. Let’s eat."
I said no more and dived into my shark’s fin soup. It was delicious, but Suyoung bit into like a shark.
"Well, Sohee. Listen-. If you are going to be like this, I have no option but to lure you with sothing more... attractive."
"OK."
I just kept on drinking the soup like a thirsty dog. Slurping.
"He’s kinda known to be like a... ’sponsor’ type."
"Huh?"
"You know, like those n who ’sponsor’ your life."
Right. So that was it. He’s just a rich dude who wants to keep a sex partner he gives his credit card to, rent a flat for her, and co and screw any ti he wants with no commitnt. Not that I was looking for a commitnt. Or any man in the first place for that matter.
"He’s recently got an officetel in Gangnam but sothing didn’t work out and it’s currently empty. Didn’t you say you work around there?
Wait.
"He’s also known to give credit cards - with very generous credit limits - to his girl to use. You could cover your whole monthly expenses and buy all the nice things you want!"
This sounds way too familiar.
"Has he been seeing anyone recently?"
Suyoung hesitated a little then broke into the most fake smile I’ve seen in a long ti.
"Yes, but is that a problem? Well, he did have a girl recently, but, erm, it didn’t quite work out. Yeah. But he’s cool like that. He’s not a stalking type. He just moves on."
You fucking bitch.
You are introducing to Minji’s ex.
You want to beco his sex toy.
You are trying to pimp out.
Are you getting so cuts for this?
But as the fire of rage burned inside from deep within, my mind started to race.
"I... think I might give it a go."
"Yes! That’s it! It’s not like you have to date him from the first day or anything. Just et him once and see if you like him. No pressure. And it’s going to be a free dinner - I’m sure he will take you sowhere great."
He will probably take to that Italian restaurant where Minji burned to death.
I felt the fin of a shark trying to swim back to my mouth from my stomach.
"I will give it a chance. Since you insist so much."
There was a twinkle in Suyoung’s eyes and ’I knew you’d open your legs eventually with money on the table’ kind of smile on her face.
"Right. I’ll text him straight away."
"Is it so urgent?"
"He’s been egging on about it. To introduce him to so girl."
"Why did you think of ?"
"I told you. You are 8 or 9. You have that innocent but hard-to-get look. n like such girls."
Not sure if I was in any way comparable to Minji, who wasn’t exactly hard to get - modestly put. But one man could have a wide range of tastes. From a skinny young girl to a mature voluptuous woman. They’d do anything that gets them hard. And most n get hard at almost anything that moves. Sotis even to things that don’t move.
"Fine. I’m busy on the weekend though. From Friday evening to Sunday night, I can’t do it."
This was sothing I wasn’t going to compromise under any lure.
"Fair enough. How about tomorrow?"
"You are really in a rush aren’t you?"
"Well, don’t you think it’s exciting?"
You are definitely pimping out and getting a cut from it.
