The tallic spike of Alex’s rope dart whistled through the air. The rope coiled around his arms rapidly, loosened and finally extendedit’s reach to intercept Selena from closing the distance.

The ashen-haired girl, quick to react, veered to the left, but Alex wasn’t having that.

Grabbing the loosening rope and twisting his arm in a circular motion, he changed the trajectory of his attack, leading it to whip in an arc at Selena.

Selena leaped forward by the brush of a hair, landing into a roll while the spike stabbed the ground hard and was locked in place.

As Alex tugged the rope to pull out the spike, she shifted from a roll into a quick pounce, using that chance to breach the gap before her sword hacked down into Alex.

Alex leaped back, his gaze tracing the slash that ran past his nose and slamd hard on the ground.

The impact, far stronger than Selena had anticipated, left a light crater while also breaking her guard slightly.

As she redrew her blade in order to pursue Alex, she halted and found herself ducking just in ti to avoid being entangled by the rope side of his weapon as it was recalled successfully to him.

Catching the length of his rope, he allowed the spike head of his weapon to touch the ground before he began spinning it around, ready for a full launch.

Selena, drawing her sword in a mid-guard stance, fueled it with aura.

Alex followed, raising his spin higher and higher till it was above his head.

Selena’s eyes rapidly followed the spin, and just as she saw a ripple in its motion, she stepped back.

The dart rope blurred and, to everyone’s surprise, penetrated the ground before Selena.

Had she been a second too late, it would have torn through her leg and left her temporarily paralyzed.

"Fast!" she thought and attempted to separate the rope from the spike with a cut of her sword.

Alex imdiately stomped on the rope, intertwined it around his ankle, and pulled it back.

The spike still embedded in the ground was dragged back at him and Selena followed to cut it down.

Alex, ready for her, unraveled the rope around his ankle, then gripping it with both hands, pulled it out of the ground—but it didn’t co out alone. No, it tore a part of the platform along with it.

Alex, like a conductor, moved his hands about in a strange and fluid motion, his movent giving life to the rope as it rippled and launched the cent at Selena.

With minimum effort, her blade burned with pale aura, then with a slash that could hardly be seen, she severed the approaching projectile.

A second later, she regretted her action as the cent exploded into an artificial smoke screen that obscured her sights of Alex.

Confused, she expanded her aura to amplify her senses, then she heard a whistle from above.

Without a second thought, she moved to the side but wasn’t fast enough as part of her arm was cut by the spike of the dart rope that fell from above with unmatched precision.

And just like that, the first blood of the battle was drawn—the victim, Selena.

---------

Selena’s POV

I was bleeding.

And not just from a re prick, but a cut on my arm.

A cut so precise that had I been a second late, my arm would have been pierced through.

"Hehe!"

My cousin wasn’t playing around.

Watching him pull back his rope dart and descend from the air, I couldn’t help but think so.

I won’t lose... That was the kind of expression conveyed on his face when he caught the spike dripping with my blood.

He seed perplexed just like , but it only lasted a second before he pulled back his arm and threw the spike back at with all his might.

The resulting force provided an explosive shockwave, and the spike, launched with the force of a cannon, pierced through the winds themselves as it aid for .

With the tip of my sword facing the ground, I moved my hand forward. My blade moved in a swift arc that t the spike on target and parried it back.

I then released one hand from my blade and attempted to seize the spike and draw him in, but he anticipated that and retaliated by kicking one of the cent fragnts that went airborne at .

It was either I dodged and missed this chance or took it at the expense of suffering a painful hit.

Calculating the trajectory, I predicted it would tear through my abdon.

If I enhanced that part, the blow might be less fatal, but in the end, it would offset my balance and disturb my pull.

So I allowed him to take back his spike while I slapped the fragnts aside with the surface of my sword.

Watching him intently as he free-fell, I drew my sword back, its tip hanging behind as if I was about to throw it—but that wasn’t my intention.

It happened just as he grabbed the rope dart again.

He spun, accumulating even more montum, and drew the spike back at .

I tensed ahead, marking the timing of his attack, and just as it hit , I sidestepped, allowing it to race to the ground.

It rippled just before then—a sign he was calling it back.

I moved then, my right foot leaving the ground, brushing against the rope.

I then mimicked him and circled it around my ankle.

Then, just as I was yanked along his pull, I flicked my sword in the air.

Using the ti I was pulled into the air to grab a few of the cent fragnts which I infused with my aura, I spun, took aim at him, and smirked.

Without a second thought, my thumb flicked the fragnts forward. They blitzed through the air and left a thin cut on his cheek.

While I, on the other hand, entangled in his pull, gripped a hold of the rope and dragged him toward in his mont of disarray to end this.
