"Welco ho, Young master. Mrs Lawson greeted Alex as soon as Alex walked through the door. Her head bowed respectfully and only lifted after he acknowledged her greetings.
"Mmm," he nodded but stopped in his tracks when he noticed she wanted to say sothing. "Did sothing happen while I was away?" He asked, giving her the chance to speak.
Mrs Lawson shook her head and smiled at him. "The old master ca by earlier, and he still hasn’t left, young master," she said, her voice and tone as respectful as ever.
Alex gave her nod. "It is not proper to keep you here any longer. Retire to your quarters for the night," he said bowed before leaving.
"Yes and thank you, Young Master," She had been waiting for him to return and she also couldn’t Nicholas alone in the house although the man didn’t waste a second to make himself at ho. She had wondered why he ca so suddenly, but it was not in her place to ask about her masters’ reason for doing anything.
Alex took the elevator up to the third floor where he knew Nicholas must be. As the elevator doors dinged open, he stepped out but stopped when he noticed that all the lights were turned off. Wondering he could be sleeping, Alex slightly pushed the already opened door and found Nucholas sitting on the opposite of his own but found it, and he sighed. There was only one other he could be.
With that thought in mind, he headed for his study on the second floor where, just as he had thought, Nicholas was seated behind the desk, flipping through docunts with a calm yet serious expression.
Alex didn’t go in but leaned on the door fra and crossed his arms across his chest. He watched the man continue going through the docunt, and sotis, a proud smile would grace his lips while other tis he would shake his head with a disbelieving smile. He even chuckled when he picked up another docunt and read through the content.
"May I know what is so amusing about it, Grandfather?" Alex finally spoke, causing Nicholas to look up at him. There was surprise in his eyes as he looked up at Alex. He had been too engrossed that he didn’t notice his grandson had been with him and was watching him for a long ti.
"Alexander," Nicholas called with a warm smile. "You can’t bla them for the excitent. You know exactly why."
Alex pushed himself off the door fra and approached the desk. "What are you here? You could have called for ," he pulled the seat and sat down, but Nicholas only shook his head, and Alex saw a flash of anger across his eyes, but it was only for a mont.
"Not calling or returning for weeks doesn’t exactly give anyone the chance to do the sa with you now, does it?" Nicholas asked And Alex felt bad, but in his defense, he had always been busy. "Forget about that. I ca here to check on you and also make certain of my thoughts based on what I have seen so far.
"What is it?" Alex asked.
"What happened to Dominic’s son, is it your doing?" Nicholas asked. Alex didn’t give away any expression but held Nicholas’ gaze.
"No," his answer was crisp and a curt, but Nicholas was silently waiting for further explanation, but it never ca. "What makes you think I am responsible?" He asked then Nicholas squinted at him.
"Because of the woman involved," He couldn’t sense any lies from Alex but that was even more a surprise that soone was rubbing mud on the Crawford na but he did nothing. Although Nicholas didn’t want to get closer to Williams, that didn’t an he forbade Alex from going close to him. They were still his family and although Alex didn’t show it, he cared for that family too. "I am aware of their broken engagent. It wouldn’t be a surprise if you are doing this to teach the little brat a lesson or two. I know you still have eyes for her," Nicholas stated his reasons.
Alex wouldn’t have returned if he hadn’t co back for that woman and Nicholas was certain of that.
"Well, I am not. Soone else was magnanimous enough to lend a helping hand," Alex replied again.
"You know who this person is, don’t you," Nicholas shook his head. He had always pitied anyone who stood against his grandson because it never ends well with them. That was why when he learned of the article online and conducted an investigation, but couldn’t find the one behind it, he suspected it was son because of the woman involved.
"Mhm..." Alex humd, his eyes running across the desk and the docunts Nicholas had left on the desk. "After an investigation, yes."
"I want to assu you don’t intend to let her go again, right?" Nicholas asked. He didn’t understand what the boy saw in the young woman but he had co to accept that he couldn’t control who he decided to give his heart to. What surprised him most was that Alex didn’t do anything to stop the marriage arrangents between his nephew and the woman he loved. It was unlike him. Or maybe it was just the way love is.
"No," he replied. His gaze appeared distant with a deep furrow between his brows. "But it might be even more difficult now," he admitted. Not just because of Sara herself but things that will eventually unfold.
"That’s what you get for staying quiet when you could have done sothing," Nicholas said and Alex looked at him in amazent.
"You had all the ti in the world to rekindle your past but you didn’t. She forgot but you didn’t and it was your responsibility to help her recall it. Now that it has co to this, you have no one but yourself to bla," Nicholas said with a deep scowl. His eyes stared sharply at Alex but he didn’t avert his gaze.
"I know," Alex said as he admitted once again that it was his fault. Although he wanted to help her rember the past that she had forgotten, he was starting to think if it was necessary. Maybe the past was better left in the past and they could both look into the future.
