anwhile, as Es and Alicia followed Leonardo to where the cars were parked, they encountered Alpha Dane and Dawson. They instinctively beca more cautious, but that also had their hearts accelerating, and the abnormality was at once noticed by Leonardo.
He looked at them and found nothing wrong, but once his eyes caught sight of Aloha Dane nearby. He imdiately understood why.
’The healer wasn’t lying after all,’ he thought. He had believed her when she told him everything, but he didn’t think it would get to the extent that the re sight of him would frighten the girl so much.
He looked at her and didn’t know how to address her. Grant hadn’t said anything about it yet. Although it would only be right to call her the queen, she was yet to be crowned, and no one else knew about her being the king’s mate.
"Miss Esralda," he called and even walked around them to shield them from the direction of Alpha Dane. Es looked at him silently, waiting for him to state his reason for calling her.
"I can tell that you do not like your alpha, may I ask why?" He asked as though he didn’t already know why.
anwhile, Es looked down and wondered if it was that obvious or if he was the one who was really good at reading people. She bit on her lower lip until it almost drew blood. When the pain was becoming too much to bear, she released it as she realized that there was no point in inflicting pain on herself.
She briefly looked back at him. "I am sorry, but I do not wish to talk about that," she said, minting eye contact for a second longer before she looked away. It has beco a habit of hers not to look anyone in the eyes. At first, it always got her into trouble with the pack and Dane and his children.
They would tell her never to look at anyone because it was shaful to have soone like her stare at them. She learned not to et anyone’s gaze or even stare at their faces the hard way, and now it has beco a part of her.
Leonardo kept his gaze on her for a mont longer before he nodded and humd. "I am sorry if I overstepped my boundaries," he said, his tone polite and respectful. Es even saw him bow his head, and her heart skipped a beat.
She quickly looked around to see if anyone else had seen them. She then sighed in relief when it was only the three of them. The warriors were still busy with whatever Alpha Dane was saying to them.
They continued walking with Leonado beside them. The silence that lingered was appropriated as it gave them each a mont to their thoughts. But the silence aas disrupted when Es’s na was yelled from behind them.
"Esralda!" Ophelia called. Her hurried steps could be heard chasing after them, but Es continued walking ahead. She didn’t stop. Not even when Leonardo and Alicia stopped.
"I am talking to you and you are just keep going as if you can’t hear ," Ophelia was furious and es could tell that from the anger in her voice but like before, she just continued walking.
Then she stopped when she didn’t see either Leonardo or Alicia behind her. "Aren’t we going anymore?" She asked, her voice asured. She tilted her head to the side as if confused at why they stopped.
"I am sorry, I thought she might be a friend of yours and stopped. But now I can see that I was terribly wrong, forgive for that. I promise that won’t happen ever again," Leonardo said, and Es nodded her head.
She looked at Alicia, who was trembling, and she sighed inwardly. Ophelia often tortured Alicia because she remained loyal and respectful towards Es. And Alicia being just an oga and a maid in the pack, she had grown to fear Ophelia like none other.
"Alicia," she walked back to her and held her hand. It was a pity that Ophelia caught up to them because of this, but she couldn’t leave Alicia behind just because she wanted to avoid Ophelia.
"You don’t have to worry about her anymore. We are leaving, and she can’t do anything to you ever again," Es said encouragingly to Alicia, and the girl just nodded her head.
"Didn’t you hear calling you?" Ophelia, who had now closed the distance between them, asked, she was panting while glaring at Es and Alicia, forgetting that they were in the company of soone else.
"Oh, you are still alive," Es said with detachnt, and she ca to stand in front of Alicia to shield her from ophelia.
Hearing her question like that, Ophelia’s nose flared, and she pointed a finger at Es, but it was swatted away. And the words that she was going to say remained stuck to her throat.
"We were going sowhere before you ca barking. Step aside," Es said. The command alone rendered Ophelia speechless.
"Sir Leonardo, could you please lead the way. My friend isn’t feeling so good. She needs to rest," Es turned to Leonardo instead.
Leonardo finally took his eyes off the troubleso Ophelia. Until now, he couldn’t believe it. This was the Ophelia that Aloha had spoken so much about. His daughter whom he was proud of and she was like this? She shook his head inwardly.
"Yes. We are almost there," he said as he ca to their side. "Miss Lancaster, if you mind, please step aside," he said. Although his words were polite, his tone was not.
Ophelia wanted to refuse, but when she looked into his eyes and they glazed over, albeit briefly, she swallowed the lump that suddenly ford in her throat. As his aura rolled off of him, her knees almost gave in, and she stepped aside instinctively while also trying not to submit to a man whose identity she did not know.
"The path has been cleared now. Please follow ," he said with a smile to Es and Alicia.
"Next ti, please be more careful. You have a strong aura, although you are a beta. It could rival so Alphas," Es said, and he nodded but didn’t quite get what she was trying to say. "Alicia is an oga. It can be overwhelming for her."
"Forgive my negligence," Leonardo apologized.
Ophelia heard their exchange and help, wondering who he was. A beta with such a strong aura? "Then who is his Alpha?" She asked aloud.
