Chapter 359: Chapter 134 Raven
Mu Fan drew out his alloy broadsword and swung it in front of him, quickly leaving nothing but a blurred afterimage of the great sword.
The stone bullets that viciously pelted towards them were all repelled without exception.
Mu Fan’s rising to his feet provided the other students behind him with an opportunity – it was only then they reacted, lifting their pulse rifles to start firing wildly.
Finally, after a brief respite, the gunfire erupted violently around them, and the overwhelming stone bullet attack that had just begun was forcibly suppressed by the firepower of half of Base Three.
Retreating roughly a hundred ters away, Mu Fan caught a pulse rifle thrown by a teammate, joining in the firing.
This ti, however, he had hardly shot when he saw the insects camouflaged on the rock walls being knocked down one after another.
The cliff worms that had been in ambush for so long beca re targets once they were discovered.
The troops led by Luo Jianjin didn’t incur a single casualty while clearing the cliff worms from the rock walls on both sides.
Many of the students were seeing the Zeg on such a large scale for the first ti, excitedly exchanging thoughts upon realizing they had killed so many.
The notoriously ferocious Zeg Clan… seed too fragile to withstand much of a beating.
The battle turned into a slaughter, and now, the team retreated outside the entrance, all eyes on Luo Jianjin, waiting for his next command.
“Do not be complacent, if not for Mu Fan, we might have been completely ambushed.”
This statent quieted the cheering, as people began to realize it was the young man’s sudden assault that had fully exposed the Zeg.
After speaking, Luo Jianjin didn’t add anything else. His expression still held confusion because the Zeg Clan’s ambush forces seed too monotypic – so much so that even as the cliff worms died in droves, not a single beetle had shown itself.
Mu Fan sheathed his alloy broadsword and walked up to Luo Jianjin, “What’s the matter, Captain Luo?”
Glancing at the steadfast young man beside him, Luo Jianjin had already co to regard Mu Fan as a true warrior.
“There’s sothing odd about this, the Zeg’s troop types are too singular this ti.”
Mu Fan nodded in agreent, he had noticed as well.
“However, the detector has already made two rounds, and there are no other anomalies.”
“So, did these Zeg not lay an ambush at all, or… where are they hidden?”
Bearded muttered to himself in confusion, unable to make sense of the situation and preparing to continue giving orders.
Yet his words made Mu Fan’s eyes flash suddenly!
Where are they hidden?
The sky? No!
The rock walls? Already cleared!
The ground? No!
Underground…
Underground.
Mu Fan’s eyes widened in realization because he suddenly rembered a type of Zeg he had only seen once.
“Wait a minute!”
Luo Jianjin’s hand paused midair, turning to look at Mu Fan.
“What is it, Mu Fan?”
“Could these insects be hiding in… the ground? The last ti we left the hive, we encountered an insect that could hide underground and shoot out a row of ground spikes. So, I’m wondering if there’s a chance of that?” Mu Fan gathered his thoughts and spoke.
“…A lurker? Hiss~”
A few Special Combat Team mbers nearby sucked in a breath of cold air upon hearing this, including Wolf, who displayed a cautious expression.
“Wolf, Deer!”
With just that brief command from Luo Jianjin, both understood what he ant and nodded in agreent.
“We have a way.”
What way?
While the nearby few were still curious, Deer pulled out a bizarrely designed, super-heavy rifle from the toolbox of the combat vehicle.
That muzzle could be called a cannon muzzle.
Circular, with a diater of roughly 10 centiters!
When Mu Fan saw the object, he noticed White Hair’s eyes go wide with excitent, almost to the point of drooling.
He nudged White Hair’s arm, “What is that?”
White Hair’s gaze was fixed firmly on the spot, and he whispered, “A rare force field generator, there might be other equipnt later.”
True to his word, Deer aid a massive and strange firearm forward and pulled the trigger five tis in rapid succession.
Bang!
Bang!
…
Shiny tal spheres were driven deep into the soil.
After the fifth tal sphere entered the ground, all five spheres split open at once, and a transparent force field shot up from the five points, forming a five-sided pyramid.
At that mont, Wolf took out a delicate raven-shaped chanical device from his backpack, with a pained expression on his face.
“What’s that?” Mu Fan asked curiously.
White Hair shook his head, not knowing either, but his interest didn’t wane in the slightest; the mbers of the Special Combat Team had no end of cool gadgets.
The thirty-centiter-wide black raven-shaped device was placed on Wolf’s specialized crossbow and the chanism was triggered.
Buzz!
The black raven turned into a streak of light and shot straight into the force field.
When it made contact with the transparent force field, the entire black surface instantly turned into a dazzling silver-white, then flew straight forward at a height of two ters above the ground.
While operating the tactical tablet, Deer suddenly yelled out, “There’s an ambush underground!”
The transparent force field turned abruptly red, stretched into a rectangle, and then condensed into dozens of red dots!
This was the map of the area ahead, and at that mont, dozens of red dots erged densely packed in the canyon about three hundred ters ahead.
“Boss, thirty-six lurkers!”
The blade of grass in Deer’s mouth dropped out.
“Heavy Hamr Tanks, switch to siege mode!” The chanical arms of the two AA5-type “Heavy Hamr” Tanks extended again, and the Plasma Shock Cannons roared as Mu Fan felt the ground tremble beneath his feet.
Then he saw a burst of blood flowers explode about one hundred and fifty ters in front of them!
The red dots on the force field map simultaneously disappeared by five.
Boom, Boom!
Just seven or eight seconds later, another roar of cannons followed by another burst of blood flowers.
“Good!” Bearded slapped Mu Fan’s shoulder excitedly, “Mu Fan, good thing we have you, detecting two ambushes in a row! Those Zeg are really sly. Once we get back, I’ll definitely apply for a military honor for you, see if we can get you a dal.”
Mu Fan was slightly puzzled; he hadn’t officially joined the military, could he still receive a dal?
After the third volley from the siege tanks, several more shadows surged from underneath the ground at a greater distance and hurriedly scrambled backward.
But they were too slow to escape the cannons of the siege tanks that were already in position. As these lurkers desperately crawled out, just one volley was enough to wipe them out completely.
Seeing no more red dots on the force field, all the awestruck trainees breathed a sigh of relief.
Although they didn’t know what kind of damage the Zeg could do, judging by how seriously the veterans were taking it, they certainly didn’t want to find out.
“How many more tis can you detect?” Bearded asked Wolf and Deer.
“I can spread my dynamic electromagnetic force field five more tis,” Deer said, pointing to a toolbox nearby.
“I only have one Raven left…” Wolf shook his head.
“Move forward another three hundred ters for detection, then return to base and request a Zeg Clan detector from the Military Departnt.”
The order was given, and the team passed through the gorge without incident.
After releasing the so-called Raven again, they safely moved another three hundred ters into the stone forest.
Captain Luo Jianjin ordered everyone to return; the exploration was over.
For so reason, Mu Fan, who had activated “Dark Breath,” always felt a bit strange because his analytical ability regarding the Zeg was rapidly improving. He didn’t know why, but he could co up with many thoughts about the Zeg almost instantaneously.
On the way back to base, Mu Fan had a vague premonition that the Zegs today were… probing?
“Mu Fan, the detection tools those two used today are very interesting. Help
intercept a set when you get the chance,” Black suddenly said as they were about to enter the base.
