Chen Cheng arrived at the office door, slightly ajar, with no light coming from inside.

Pushing the door open, Wen Shulin stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, the city’s neon lights filtering through the glass, casting a mottled glow on her, outlining her slender figure.

Chen Cheng closed the door, his footsteps particularly clear in the silence; Wen Shulin did not turn around, seemingly imrsed in her thoughts, rely spoke quietly: "You’re here."

Chen Cheng said nothing, walked forward, and stood beside her, together appreciating the night view outside the window.

"Thank you, husband."

"Thank for what?"

Wen Shulin turned around without answering, smiling at Chen Cheng.

The hand with scarlet nail polish twined around Chen Cheng’s black tie, Wen Shulin gently pulled, and they headed towards the desk.

She sat on the long desk, which had signed countless docunts, her hand still clinging to his tie, tightening it, drawing them closer together.

Wen Shulin’s gaze was intense, staring directly into Chen Cheng’s eyes, "Give it to ."

Chen Cheng raised his hand to brush away a strand of hair from her cheek, his thumb sweeping across her fiery red lips, lifting her proud chin, and kissed her.

Wen Shulin’s breathing beca rapid, she actively matched Chen Cheng’s kiss, tightly wrapping her hands around his neck, silence dominating the office, with only scattered folders and the rustling of fabric.

...

...

Snap!

A fla flickered in the dim office, Wen Shulin held a cigarette out to Chen Cheng’s lips, "Smoke this before you go."

"I haven’t smoked for a long ti."

"To suppress the scent of perfu on you." Wen Shulin explained the reason, "Don’t want to cause you trouble."

Chen Cheng smiled faintly, Wen Shulin indeed understood n best.

He held the cigarette with his lips, Wen Shulin’s slender fingers flicked the lighter again, the fla dancing, lighting the tip of the cigarette.

Scarlet glow cast on both their faces, flickering on and off, mirroring the complex emotions between them at this mont.

He took a deep drag, the taste of nicotine spreading through his lungs, unfamiliar yet familiar.

Exhaling the smoke, the swirling haze blurred Wen Shulin’s face, concealing the deep emotions in his eyes.

"Satisfied?" Wen Shulin sat in Chen Cheng’s embrace, enjoying this last warmth.

Chen Cheng nodded.

Wen Shulin cradled Chen Cheng’s face, gently stroking it a few tis, finally taking the lit cigarette from his mouth, she took a light drag too, exhaling a smoke ring, her eyes dreamy, tinged with a hint of laziness and allure.

"I’ve never seen you smoke."

Wen Shulin smiled, "Happy today."

She returned the cigarette to Chen Cheng, who then buried his head in her neck, inhaling deeply, the faint perfu mingling with the taste of tobacco, forming a unique aroma, captivating him.

Wen Shulin held down that mischievous hand, "I should go up."

She stroked his hair again and kissed him, before rising, her face flushed, adjusting the dress she wore.

Chen Cheng sat in the boss chair, looking at her up close, unable to stop a smile from curling on his lips.

"See you later." Wen Shulin smiled slightly, walking to the office door and out.

Until the office door gently closed, Chen Cheng slowly withdrew his gaze, leaning back in the chair, smoke swirling, blurring the office’s light, and clouding his thoughts.

He closed his eyes, feeling the lingering warmth of Wen Shulin on his fingertips and the air’s unique fragrance blended with perfu and tobacco.

This scent was their secret, a testant to tonight’s madness.

As the cigarette burned out, Chen Cheng pressed the butt into the ashtray, which still bore Wen Shulin’s lipstick stain.

He stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the still dazzling city nightscape outside.

Tonight, for Wen Shulin, was an extraordinary night; HCG, or rather, Huarui Financial Control, was officially born.

And for him, it was equally significant.

He witnessed her transformation, shared her joy, and... so secrets only the two of them understood.

..

...

Returning to the banquet hall, Chen Cheng grabbed a bottle of water and took a few swigs.

Chen Jin walked over, smiling, "Mr. Chen, impressive."

"Not bad."

Chen Cheng responded, "Thanks, Lao Chen."

"No worries, everything’s calm." Chen Jin checked the ti, "If there’s nothing, I’m leaving. Tell Chairman Wen for ."

"Not staying?"

"That’s enough." Chen Jin waved his hand, "Got a wife and kids waiting at ho, unlike you, a free man."

Chen Jin winked and joked, then turned and left.

The banquet hall remained noisy, glasses clinking, people toasting, everyone smiling, celebrating the New Year and Huarui’s founding.

Wen Shulin was still the star, no one knew where she disappeared for fifty minutes, just noticing she seed even more radiant.

"Brother Cheng."

Chen Cheng was pulled back to reality by the call, turning his head to see i Xiang looking at him pitifully.

"What’s wrong?"

i Xiang had of course noticed Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin disappeared at the sa ti, then reappeared one after the other, but she said, "While you were gone, Li Ya danced with Sister Xiao Er, covering for you. You don’t need to worry."

Chen Cheng noticed the two spots of wine red on i Xiang’s face, asking, "Been drinking?"

"Yes."

"Unhappy?"

"Yes!"

Chen Cheng understood the root of this, he said with a smile, "Tomorrow, co over to my place."

"Really?"

"When have I lied to you?" Chen Cheng smiled, "After nine, no one at ho."
