Buying a house is a big deal for ordinary people, but for Chen Cheng now, it’s as easy as drinking water.
Although the house in Palm Springs was vacant, Chen Cheng had already promised the Liu sisters, so he thought he still should choose a new set for ng Wanning.
After the two had breakfast at the townhouse, Chen Cheng picked up his phone and began searching for suitable properties.
He rembered one of ng Wanning’s requests was to be closer to the opera troupe for convenience.
“Wan Wan, I see there’s a new property developnt over there, let’s go have a look. Pick a big house, you’ll live more comfortably.”
ng Wanning smiled sweetly: “I don’t even want your car, why would I want a house?”
Chen Cheng was stunned for half a second, “I just promised your master.”
“You promised because it’s your business, whether I want it or not is my business.”
ng Wanning shook her head happily, “I don’t want to be tied down by houses and cars. My choice to be with you has never been about money. Even if you were penniless, I’d still be with you.”
Chen Cheng gazed at her enamored, perhaps she was the only other girl besides Xiao ier who could say such things.
“I don’t want to tie you down with houses and cars, I just want to give you a better life. You’re with , and of course, I want to treat you well.”
ng Wanning looked up, her bright eyes fixed on Chen Cheng, her love unhidden:
“I know your intentions, but I really don’t need these. My current life is already good, having you and loving my career, I’m satisfied.”
“Besides, you didn’t make money easily, I saw you stressed out in Qianzhou, so, I don’t want it.”
Chen Cheng, hands on his hips, faced ng Wanning who was refusing his kindness for the second ti, he smiled helplessly.
“Then at least pick a place to live outside the opera troupe?” he asked.
“Let’s go rent one,” ng Wanning expressed her thoughts, “you can’t stay with all the ti anyway, let’s not waste that money.”
“We’ll just choose a nicer community outside the opera troupe and build a small ho for us.”
ng Wanning tugged Chen Cheng’s arm, swaying slightly: “If you’re ever tired or unhappy, just co here. I’ll massage your shoulders, tell you stories.”
Her tone full of longing, “We can also plant flowers on the balcony, go to the movies together on weekends, stroll through the supermarket…”
Chen Cheng listened to her describing their future, a warm current surged in his heart.
He knew in his heart that ng Wanning’s “cozy little ho” and Wen Shulin’s “secret garden” both belonged to his life, but were fundantally different.
Wen Shulin’s villa garden resembled a ticulously arranged stage, luxurious and lavish, but lacking a bit of true life atmosphere.
The two only saw that as a place to rest, not a ho.
Whereas ng Wanning’s imagined ho was entirely different.
It was a harbor filled with love and warmth, a true “ho.”
No need for luxurious decorations, no need for expensive furniture, only needing two people who love each other, support each other, and manage together.
ng Wanning didn’t need him to play any role, she only wanted his true self, a shoulder to rely on, soone to confide in.
This difference, was like finding a peaceful oasis in the noisy city, where there’s no deception, no competition, only the purest love and the most sincere companionship.
“Will you promise ?” ng Wanning looked up pleadingly at Chen Cheng.
Chen Cheng smiled tenderly: “Okay.”
“Shall we go look at the house now?”
Chen Cheng nodded.
ng Wanning jumped up, hugged Chen Cheng, “But, it’s agreed, we’re only renting, not buying!”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you.”

Thanks to the ti spent finding storefronts through an agent recently, Chen Cheng had quite a few resources at hand, and soon found a small ground-floor apartnt near the Beijing Opera troupe.
The house, although not large, only a small three-bedroom, was clean and tidy, and had a small yard on the ground floor, which perfectly fulfilled ng Wanning’s desire to garden.
Chen Cheng watched ng Wanning excitedly planning the layout of the flowers and plants in the yard, a smile forming on his lips.
“Planting roses here, gardenias there, and mint over there,” ng Wanning gestured and chattered, “and it’s also close to the opera troupe, I can walk there in the morning.”
She happily took Chen Cheng’s hand, “Grandpa, shall we settle here?”
Chen Cheng smiled, “Sure, if you think it’s good, then it’s good.”
“How can you say if I think it’s good?” ng Wanning pouted, “You have to be satisfied too.”
“Satisfied, satisfied, wherever you are, I’m satisfied.”
Chen Cheng wrapped his arm around ng Wanning’s shoulders, “Do we need to buy so new furniture?”
“This is good enough, it’s not broken or damaged.” ng Wanning looked around, “We just need to purchase so daily necessities, like pots and pans, sheets and bedding.”
She tilted her head, thinking, “Once everything is set, we’ll invite the master and Mr. Jin over, have a fire, and that will make it official.”
“No problem.”
ng Wanning chattered like a child about her ideas, and in the end, she even paid a year’s rent and signed the contract.
Just like she said, she didn’t spend Chen Cheng’s money, keeping their relationship pure.
Chen Cheng didn’t stop her, knowing ng Wanning’s stubbornness and independence, and he respected her desire for an equal contribution.
