Chapter 682: Chapter 682: Inviting the Ancestor

Uncle Du and Uncle Pei Jiu exchanged cooperative smiles.

Their party had co directly to seek out Jiangli and had nothing to do with Fu Shiyan.

They didn’t seem familiar with Fu Shiyan either and didn’t pay him much attention as they started chatting with Jiangli directly.

Fu Shiyan sat to the side, seemingly unconcerned about the situation.

At that mont, the servants of the Fu Family’s old house brought in the tea.

Fu Shiyan and Duan Jianchuan then sat on the side, as if they were non-existent.

Duan Jianchuan felt sowhat embarrassed; he didn’t know why his third brother insisted on sitting there like a bodyguard.

Since they were here to see the Abbot, it would have been better for them to leave the room.

With this in mind, Duan Jianchuan couldn’t help but glance at Fu Shiyan.

Fu Shiyan, however, acted as if he hadn’t noticed.

Qing Yue caught Duan Jianchuan’s gaze and let out a light laugh, then picked up the tea and leisurely savored it.

The three sat there, sowhat bored.

But in the sa side hall, it was much livelier around Jiangli.

After Uncle Du and Uncle Pei Jiu exchanged greetings with Jiangli, Zhu Ming followed suit, giving Jiangli an awkward smile, “Abbot, I, I ca today to thank you for saving my life.”

Jiangli responded lazily, “I did it for the money, not out of any intent to save you. It was a transaction, you pay, and I do the work. Once the silver is paid, the deal is done. There’s no need to thank . If you’re just here to give thanks, then let’s leave it at that.”

Zhu Ming’s words were suddenly stuck in his throat.

His intention had been to give thanks and, incidentally, to reestablish a good relationship with Jiangli.

Being on good terms with soone as powerful as Jiangli might lead to mutual help in the future.

But Jiangli was so indifferent.

It was unclear whether it was just her personality or if she saw through Zhu Ming’s intentions and didn’t give him a chance to speak.

Zhu Ming forced a smile, at a loss for words, and could only sit down uncomfortably to the side.

“Zhu Ming’s nature is rather blunt, and while he might not be a paragon of virtue, he’s not an evildoer either. Abbot, even though you saved him for the money, it is still a great kindness, and it’s only proper for Zhu Ming to co and say thanks,” Uncle Pei Jiu said, glancing at Zhu Ming and smoothing over the awkwardness.

Jiangli held her teacup with a faint smile, “Then, what brings Director Pei here? I assu Director Pei isn’t here to thank , right?”

Uncle Pei Jiu had his own motives for this visit.

Confronted by Jiangli’s penetrating gaze, he felt as if she could see right through him, which made him quite uncomfortable, “Actually, my visit today is to discuss a matter with the Abbot.”

Jiangli gestured with her hand, “Go ahead.”

Uncle Pei Jiu, holding onto his cane, shifted forward slightly and said, “Actually, I ca here to propose on behalf of the Unusual Affairs Managent that the Abbot join us at the Unusual Affairs Managent Office. Every local office is short-staffed, and if the Abbot were to agree, it would undoubtedly be a significant boon for us.”

Jiangli raised her eyebrows slightly, her interest waning, “There’s no need for that. I’m just a commoner who dislikes restrictions. I’m quite content as I am now, but thank you, Director Pei, for the kind offer.”

Uncle Pei Jiu had prepared a plethora of persuasive argunts, but he didn’t expect Jiangli to reject him so bluntly; he was montarily speechless.

After a few seconds, he recovered and said, “Abbot, please don’t reject this outright. We can discuss this matter. Joining the Unusual Affairs Managent would offer many benefits to Jiaoyang Temple. If the Abbot has any concerns or demands, you can share them with us; we can negotiate.”

He appeared sincere and extended considerable goodwill, as if he was earnestly inviting Jiangli to join the Unusual Affairs Managent.
