Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Ancestor Threatens the Patriarch

Xia Xin stared blankly at Jiangli, then glanced at the ancestral master’s statue. Why did he feel as if the old ancestor seed to be threatening the master…

After Jiangli finished speaking, she picked up the three lit incense sticks and bowed in offering. This ti, the incense did not break.

Jiangli smoothly inserted the three incense sticks into the incense burner.

Xia Xin: “…”

Was this threat actually effective?

As Jiangli stood up and ca over, Xia Xin flashed a sycophantic smile, “Old Ancestor…”

...

Jiangli couldn’t help but say, “It’s not for to say, but what is really going on with you and your apprentice, Xia Xin? I always used agarwood, and even if you switched to sandalwood, that’s fine, but you used damp sandalwood at that. The master naturally would not be happy, nor would he bless both of you. No wonder you have been at Jiaoyang Temple since childhood and yet your spiritual wisdom hasn’t been awakened.”

Xia Xin blinked: “Ah?” He chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head, “Is, is there really such a saying…”

“Forget it, it’s also my fault for spoiling that old thing’s taste,” Jiangli said and glanced back at the ancestral master’s statue, “You’d better not ss around in the future. It’s already good that you have sothing to use.”

Following her gaze, Xia Xin didn’t understand why, but he actually felt as if the statue seed to co alive with literal anger.

Even though it was a gilded bronze statue, Xia Xin couldn’t explain why, but he felt as if it was truly angry.

Jiangli seed to feel it too. She narrowed her eyes and humd thoughtfully with a profound aning.

The next second…

There seed to be no reaction from the ancestral master’s statue anymore.

Xia Xin felt that the master seed to have backed down.

It must be his imagination, right…

“Thump thump thump—” Just as Xia Xin was thinking, a series of knocks followed by a familiar voice rang out, “Is anybody there?”

Xia Xin swiftly regained his senses and looked at Jiangli, “It sounds like the voice of the internet cafe owner uncle.”

“I’m afraid it’s not just him,” Jiangli said indifferently with a nod, “You go and open the door first.”

“Right away!”

Xia Xin ran to open the door of Jiaoyang Temple as if his feet were greased.

He saw the internet cafe owner, Wang Xinjun, standing outside.

But just as Jiangli had said, it was not just Wang Xinjun at the door, but also a young couple, probably in their twenties or thirties. Both of them looked haggard, not in a good state.

The wife’s eyes were red-rimd as if she had just finished crying.

The husband’s expression was sowhat tense as if on guard against sothing.

“Boss…” Xia Xin glanced at them, then turned back to Wang Xinjun, “What brings you here?”

Wang Xinjun said obsequiously, “Didn’t the master tell to ask around to see if any children from the neighborhood had accidents or went missing? I actually found so! So I hurried over to bring them to the master for a look!”

“You found them?” Xia Xin looked at the couple and imdiately widened his eyes, “Then please co inside quickly, the old ancestor is waiting inside!”

Wang Xinjun gave a sly smile, “Let’s hurry in then.”

Hearing their conversation, the young man looked conflicted. “Boss Wang, are you sure about all this? It seems too incredible to believe.”

Wang Xinjun reassured him repeatedly, “No, no, Xu Yang, if you find it unbelievable, that’s because you haven’t seen it before! I didn’t believe it either, but once you see it with your own eyes, you’ll believe. Go in, and the master will surely have a way for you to see it for yourself! Besides, even if you just go in for a look, we’re not trying to trick you into anything, just give it a try.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Yang looked at his wife, Liu Rongrong, “Should we really go in?”

Liu Rongrong clenched her teeth, “Let’s try, honey. What if it really helps us find Shuaishuai.”

Hearing his wife’s words, Xu Yang nodded heavily, supporting his wife, he followed Xia Xin and Wang Xinjun inside.
