Pei Jiu heard Master Qulin’s words, thinking that Master Qulin was praising Jiangli. He said, "Chairman, you really think highly of her. She may not be the sa person from eight hundred years ago, and Mao Zombies are very difficult to deal with. We haven’t seen any Mao Zombies for decades. If it were us, we probably wouldn’t be able to handle them either. For Changfeng and her to join forces and deal with a Mao Zombie is quite an achievent."
Master Qulin took a sip of tea, "Is that so?"
Bai Changfeng’s eyes flashed with a dark tint, remaining silent.
The next second, Master Qulin asked, "Changfeng, did you notice anything strange when you and Jiangli went out this ti?"
Bai Changfeng was a bit confused, "Master, what do you an?"
Master Qulin put down the cup, "When dealing with the Mao Zombie, did anything unusual occur? Was there anything unusually abrupt in the Mao Zombie’s location?"
Hearing this, Bai Changfeng unconsciously recalled the sudden appearance of the Spiritual Bone.
His heart skipped inexplicably.
He always felt like the Master was probing for sothing.
Bai Changfeng’s thoughts shifted slightly.
Seeing him silent, Master Qulin frowned and asked, "Was there sothing?"
Bai Changfeng snapped back to reality and said, "No."
Master Qulin raised an eyebrow, "No?" He seed skeptical of Bai Changfeng’s words.
Yet Bai Changfeng stated firmly, "Indeed, no. At that ti, I helped the Abbot with the formation. By cooperating with him, we managed to destroy those two Mao Zombies. There was indeed nothing strange, no peculiar incidents or items."
Master Qulin knitted his brows tightly, seemingly questioning sothing internally.
Bai Changfeng said no more.
Pei Jiu knew what Master Qulin was trying to test for, and seeing the atmosphere tense up, he tried to ease it, "Alright, alright. I don’t think it’s such a big deal. The task is resolved, and that’s what matters. It’s so late, and Changfeng just got back. He must be tired."
He looked over at Bai Changfeng.
"Changfeng, you should go rest first."
Bai Changfeng acknowledged with a "yes," bowed slightly to the two of them, and then turned to leave.
Watching Bai Changfeng walk away, Pei Jiu looked at Master Qulin and said, "Chairman, you can be at ease this ti. She definitely isn’t the Jiangli from the past."
Master Qulin picked up a chess piece, stared at the board, and after a mont of silence, placed a white piece down, suddenly asking, "Pei Liang, what do you think of Changfeng?"
Pei Jiu was puzzled, "Changfeng is the Chairman’s disciple, always guided by you. He’s been reliable in his duties, with a promising future. He and Xun Tianhai might both be future pillars of the Xuann Association."
Master Qulin fell silent upon hearing this.
Pei Jiu beca even more unclear about what Master Qulin was contemplating.
On the other side.
After coming out of Master Qulin’s room, Bai Changfeng didn’t return to his own room imdiately but went up to the rooftop instead.
He took out his phone and, in the night breeze, dialed a number.
Soon, the call connected.
Xun Tianhai’s voice ca from the other end.
"Hello, Old Bai? Why are you calling so late? Is sothing wrong?"
Hearing Xun Tianhai’s voice, Bai Changfeng felt reassured but didn’t respond to Xun Tianhai’s question. Instead, he directly asked, "Xun Tianhai, do you think we can trust Jiangli?"
Xun Tianhai paused for a mont, "Why ask that out of the blue?"
Bai Changfeng said, "Just answer first."
Xun Tianhai was puzzled but responded nonetheless.
"The Abbot is quite nice. Although she seems hard to approach at tis, always criticizing our current Xuann Association as lacking in ability, whenever there’s sothing happening, she spares no effort to help, even though she always asks for money each ti... but it’s understandable."
