Chapter 1042: Chapter 1042: Xia Xin Disappeared
“No, the sound is in the mountain.”
Jiangli looked towards the direction of the mountain and, as soon as she finished speaking, she imdiately stepped forward, walking quickly into the mountain.
Bai Changfeng and Xia Xin both frowned.
They couldn’t discern where the sound was coming from, but since Jiangli was heading into the mountain, they naturally followed without question.
As they entered the mountain path, Bai Changfeng and Xia Xin began to hear the sound of water becoming more distinct.
Splash—
Splash—
It ca in waves, very rhythmic.
It indeed sounded like the sound of flowing water.
Bai Changfeng and Xia Xin focused intently, scanning their surroundings, yet saw no river.
They had no idea where the water sound originated from.
Jiangli proceeded forward without any expression.
Xia Xin and Bai Changfeng could only follow behind Jiangli.
After what seed like an eternity of walking, the mountain grew darker, with not a trace of light.
The addition of howling wind and rustling leaves made sounds akin to the wail of forlorn won.
Xia Xin’s heart trembled, feeling sowhat fearful.
At that mont, soone patted him on the shoulder.
Xia Xin thought it was Bai Changfeng, shrugged off the touch, and grumbled, “If you have sothing to say, just say it, don’t scare people, Mr. Bai!”
Bai Changfeng didn’t respond.
Imdiately afterward, he felt a weight on his shoulder again, as if the person laid a hand on him once more.
Xia Xin impatiently reached out, intending to remove Bai Changfeng’s hand.
But he felt sothing furry instead.
Underneath that fur was sothing dry and cold, rough like tree branches.
Xia Xin froze completely.
Before he could react, he felt his ankle tighten, as if sothing had grabbed him.
In the next second, it seed like he was sucked away by a massive force; without even being able to scream, he lost consciousness.
…
Jiangli stopped suddenly while walking in front.
Bai Changfeng paused and asked, “Abbot, what’s wrong?”
Jiangli quickly turned back, seeing no one around Bai Changfeng, her face darkening, “Where’s Xia Xin?”
Bai Changfeng looked back, only then noticing Xia Xin was gone, and exclaid in shock, “Yeah, where’s Xia Xin? He was just here!”
Jiangli’s face turned grim.
Bai Changfeng frowned deeply, “Abbot, could Xia Xin have been taken by sothing?”
Jiangli hadn’t spoken yet.
Bai Changfeng continued, “That’s impossible, we didn’t sense any movent at all just now, not even a trace of Yin Energy. Xia Xin shouldn’t have been taken; maybe we just got separated?”
Jiangli silently turned around and quickly headed deeper into the mountain.
Bai Changfeng, confused, hurried to follow.
Their pace quickened, and they raced through the night wind until they reached mid-mountain, where they saw two flas flickering not far ahead.
Jiangli and Bai Changfeng kept silent, moving swiftly towards the flas, only to find two oil lamps placed on a boulder, with no one nearby.
Staring at the empty mountain forest, Bai Changfeng’s face showed worry, “What’s going on with these two lamps?”
Jiangli walked over and picked up one of the oil lamps on the stone, noticing that there was still plenty of butter inside; it hadn’t been burning for long.
Soone must have brought the oil lamps into the mountain ahead of them.
But for so reason, no one was here now.
Holding the oil lamp, Jiangli surveyed the surroundings; it was a broad area halfway up the mountain, and a few steps further lay a sheer cliff.
Jiangli approached with the oil lamp, used its dim light to kick a small rock over the edge with her toe.
After a while, the sound of the rock hitting the ground was heard.
Bai Changfeng, hearing the sound, ca over, “This cliff is quite high.”
Jiangli whispered, “Mountain, water—”
