"Lord Vazer, you took out my n... and so late at night... isn’t this enough?" Javi asked, his cold gaze fixed on Vazer, almost as if daring him to deny the obvious.

"? Why would I?" Vazer responded with a shrug, his gaze calm, a faint smile lingering at the edge of his lips as he spoke.

"Laurel was the one who called here! Who knew that he would collude with you to try and set up?" Vazer continued, ready to throw any other guard who betrayed him under the bus the second they were ntioned.

But Vazer had just spoken when Javi’s gaze widened in shock, even as he nodded his head in slight approval before continuing to speak.

"...So that’s how you’re going to play this?" Javi asked, but Vazer still wore a stunned expression, aware that Javi could have set up other pitfalls for him—sothing he wasn’t ready to fall into. He continued to speak, his tone steady.

"I speak nothing but the truth! If I knew that Laurel had changed loyalty, I would have executed him long ago!" Vazer said, his voice cold and emotionless, even as he heard the faint sound of soone falling to their knees behind him. He didn’t bother to turn back and look.

"...Still... the other lords would be disappointed to find out that there’s no survivor," Vazer pointed out, a smirk lingering at the corners of his lips as he spoke. Javi responded with a huffing chuckle.

"Of course, he exists... he’s just dead. He passed away too quickly from his injuries," Javi responded as he got to his feet, pushing away the rest of the bedsheet and dusting himself off, as if his dark clothes had gotten dirty—which they couldn’t have.

"...So that’s how it is," Vazer sighed, nodding his head in understanding as he raised his gaze to et Javi’s eyes. Javi stared back at him with a hint of smugness that still bothered Vazer, though he knew better than to let it show.

"...It’s late. I might as well return," Vazer sighed, no sign of wariness in his gaze as he turned to leave, confident that Javi couldn’t stop him even if he wanted to.

Only to hear Javi speak, saying words that surprised him—sothing he wouldn’t have expected Javi to say.

"...I wish you a safe trip, but a friendly warning..."

"...Yeah, it’s that proverb about throwing stones when living in glass houses... You shouldn’t have done that," Javi told him. Vazer had already turned halfway to leave, but instead of turning back to look at Javi, he simply turned his gaze toward the door where Laurel knelt on the floor, unable to et his gaze.

"I don’t understand what you’re trying to say, Lord Javi... is your age starting to catch up with you?" Vazer asked, wishing he had made a statent about Javi drinking bad-quality blood, as it would have annoyed him more. But he only rembered after he was already done speaking.

Without speaking again, Vazer walked out the door, gesturing for his guards to follow him. He made a ntal note to vet each and every one of them again, including their families, realizing how sloppy he had been concerning his n to make such a silly mistake.

You really can’t trust anyone, he thought to himself as he got into the car after ensuring that every part of it had been checked. He knew how foolish it would be to ignore Javi’s warning, especially when Javi had gone as far as to give it.

The driver this ti was his second-in-command, but regardless, Vazer didn’t once let his guard down. His eyes were fixed on the road, ready to react the mont anything unexpected happened.

His intention was to get ho and figure out what to do next, confident that Laurel would be used by Javi before being disposed of. Even if Laurel dared to co back, Vazer would still chase him away.

"Drive faster!" Vazer ordered after a few minutes of being on the road. Nothing was happening, and that fact alone was enough to worry him, especially since Javi wasn’t the sort to make empty threats.

He was worried, but it didn’t show on his face as he thought about his sisters and his parents. The only reason he hadn’t jumped out of the car and dashed there was because there were more guards at the mansion than he had taken with him.

They’ll be safe, he thought to himself, confident that since barely thirty minutes had passed, nothing too bad could have happened.

Instead of being excessively worried over nothing, he leaned back into the seat, staring out the window as the car zood into the parking lot of the mansion.

But the car hadn’t even stopped when Vazer flew out, a stony expression on his face as he raised his head and took a long sniff of the sll that lingered in the air.

Blood.

Without so much as hesitating, Vazer dashed forward, his heart breaking at the silence he heard and even more at the dead bodies he passed on the ground. The bruises on the bodies showed that the guards had only been killed after an extrely brutal fight.

His speed was enormous as he dashed forward, his destination the inside of the mansion. He was already screaming and calling their nas as he headed up the stairs toward the entrance.

"Tinari!!... Dinari!"

But he had just called out the nas of his sisters, who were the dearest to his heart, when he suddenly froze at the entrance. He looked up to see a body dangling in the doorway.

It was one Vazer recognized from the clothing on the body, even though it was clearly missing a head, with a large hole in its chest where the heart should have been.

Dinari.

His heart wasn’t thumping in his chest, but his breath ca in large gasps as he fixed his eyes on the body, grinding his teeth hard enough for a cracking sound to be heard. He swallowed and stepped inside.

His fists were balled together as he stepped in, but he had barely done so when he noticed the two bodies laid out on the ground—his parents. He tightened his fingers hard enough for them to creak.

Stepping closer with slow steps, he stared at the faces he was so familiar with, their heads severed from their bodies and their hearts crushed in their chests.
