"Violet!" Cain snapped, trying to calm her down, but she was already clawing at his skin, even as she slowly but surely beca more manic the longer he held her down, which made him suddenly ease up and let her go—only to watch her bolt off the bed.
But Cain couldn’t allow that. She was blind, and getting off the bed was asking to collide with the machines scattered around it. It was already a shock that it hadn’t happened yet.
"Violet! I’m right here. It’s ...Cain!" he softly called out to her but wasn’t particularly surprised to see her continue to fight him and claw at him like her life depended on it. He was just about to let her go again when he watched her suddenly turn her hands to herself, clawing at her own face and eyes. He stopped her in ti.
"Get in here!" he yelled, making his voice loud enough that it cracked the glass of the room and ensured people outside could hear, even as Violet froze, trembling on the bed as she cried and whimpered like soone left outside in the cold for days.
It didn’t take long before she was sedated by Trivet this ti around, who promised—almost like he was putting his life on it—that Violet wouldn’t wake up for at least a full day until he woke her himself.
"I’ll stay right here...throughout!" he assured Cain in a way that almost sounded like he was reassuring himself. I can only watch her if I’m alive and breathing! he wanted to say as he bowed with his eyes squinted shut, waiting for Cain’s response.
"I’m sure I don’t have to remind you what would happen to you if sothing happens to your patient!" Cain pointed out, even as Uva also hurriedly bowed toward him.
"My lord! I can assure you that by the ti she wakes up, her eyes will already be functioning!" she promised, her tone filled with utter confidence as Cain nodded and moved to walk out of the room, closing the door behind him.
"That was scary!" Trivet sighed the second he was sure Cain was gone and the door was closed, only to turn to the side and see Uva hit the floor. She removed her veil, tears streaming down her face, her body shaking from head to toe.
Sobbing hysterically like a child, it was a great contrast to the elegance and calm she had shown while Cain had been in the room—a calm much greater than the one he showed.
"I-I thought he was going to kill !" she cried, even as tears stread down her face in droves. "I-I’ve heard so many stories. He-he hates witches!" she whispered in an even lower tone, almost like Cain could possibly still be in the room.
"The others even made bets about how many pieces he would cut into once I was done!" she cried, and Trivet couldn’t help but feel pity for her, even as he moved closer to pat her shoulders with care. She looked young and would have probably looked like his daughter if he had bothered to have a family and children.
"You’re still alive! That’s all that matters!" he consoled her, though he was also aware of how grave the situation was, considering everyone knew the reason for Cain’s hatred of witches.
"For now!" she snapped, struggling to wipe her face with her handkerchief as she slowly got off the ground, shrugging Trivet’s hands off her shoulders as she glared at him.
"Don’t treat like a child...I’m older than you!" she snapped at him, completely taking Trivet aback. He chuckled right back in her face.
"I’m a werewolf! Moreover, the only difference between witches and humans is the fact that you can use magic. You still age normally!" Trivet pointed out with pride as he straightened his shoulders and looked down at her, considering he was almost two feet taller than she was.
He was surprised when he watched her glare even harder, folding her arms, her tone sharper than before. "I’m 82!" she snapped, passing her hands over her face, a smug look spreading as she watched him stumble back, a shocked expression stamped on his face as he looked down at her with complete astonishnt. He opened and closed his mouth, finding it difficult to speak.
"...and I dare you to say sothing bad about my face. I still have enough magic to turn you into a frog and—"
But she was still angrily speaking when she saw him shake his head, stepping closer with an amazed look on his face.
"...bad? You—you look beautiful!" he gushed, unaware of what he had said until it was out of his mouth.
Yet it was Uva who looked more abashed, her cheeks turning red, almost like she had never heard such a complint before. She hurriedly turned her face away.
"Oh-oh...thanks!" she responded, turning to focus on arranging her potions back into her bag. Trivet’s state, however, was even worse as his heart wouldn’t stop racing and thumping in his chest like he was seconds away from a heart attack.
What-what did she do to ? Did she put a spell on ? he wondered, considering the fact that the other option—falling for a witch—was sothing he found unthinkable and beneath him.
I need to do a thorough dical exam on myself! I’m too old to be behaving like this! he decided, moving toward the other side of the room, intent on putting more distance between himself and Uva for his own sake.
Leaving the room, instead of heading back to the basent to see if he could get the truth from them, his steps suddenly slowed, and his gaze turned toward the corridor, fixed right on the room he had placed Fiona in.
Without thinking twice about it, Cain changed directions and headed toward the door, knocking as he stood in front of it, surprised when the door was instantly pulled open, almost like Fiona had been standing right behind it when he knocked.
"Cain! I knew it was you!" She bead with a smile, even though he could hear the loud racing of her heart in her chest and the aura of fear that clung to every inch of her in a way that made him recall their last eting when he had almost transford in front of her.
A bit surprised, although she was probably trembling on the verge of falling to the ground, she still managed to show a calm expression and a beaming smile, almost like her eyes and aura said one thing and her body said sothing else.
"Can I co in?" Cain asked her, even as he watched her pull the door open wider for him to quickly do so.
"I’m surprised you ca to see so—" But Cain wasn’t there to hear her ramble on as he imdiately cut in before she could continue.
"Violet has been found!" he inford her, leaning against the door without taking another step forward, his gaze fixed on her, even as he noted how she seed to go completely still but otherwise didn’t do anything else.
