The battlefield was a chaotic blur, but now that Azula and Aldric had set aside their differences and decided to work together, the tide was shifting dramatically.

Azula, in control of Islinda’s body, moved with a reckless abandon that stole Aldric’s breath. Islinda had been a quick learner, always adapting and standing her ground in fights, however, she was untrained. But

Azula was sothing else entirely, a beast, a monster.

She manifested dark shadows with a mastery Aldric had never imagined possible, using her powers in ways that left him in awe. Her strength was overwhelming, her knowledge deep, and her movents intentionally.

Still, despite Azula’s overwhelming power, Aldric couldn’t shake the anxiety gripping him. He stayed close, watching her back while fending off his own opponents. If anything were to happen to Azula while she inhabited Islinda’s body, it would be catastrophic. Islinda’s protection was usually in Azula’s hands, but now with Azula in control, Islinda and the child in her womb were vulnerable.

This vulnerability gnawed at him, especially when Azula’s reckless nature took over.

The mont ca suddenly, without warning. Azula leaped high into the air, and before Aldric could stop her, she landed in the middle of enemy ground. It was a bold and terrifying move. Aldric’s heart stopped for a second as he watched her drop into the very center of the enemy’s forces, where the monsters were thickest, their weapons poised to strike.

"Azula!" Aldric shouted, terror in his voice.

Was she insane? What was she thinking? Fear gripped him, a cold vice squeezing his chest as he imagined the worst. Had Azula beco suicidal, recklessly throwing herself into a situation where she could be overwheld and killed? If she died, so did Islinda, and their child.

Aldric began to move toward her, but an ogre blindsided him, knocking him off balance and forcing him into combat. He barely managed to roll out of the way as the creature’s massive weapon crashed into the ground where he had been standing monts before. The force of the blow left the earth trembling.

Gritting his teeth, Aldric engaged the ogre in battle, swinging his own sword and casting dark shadows to defend himself. He couldn’t reach Azula, not now. She was on her own. All he could do was pray that she knew the heck what she was doing.

Azula in question was surrounded now, the monsters closing in on her with a vicious gleam in their eyes, thinking she was an easy kill.

But Azula crouched, a twisted smirk on her lips as they ca for her. The massive creatures roared, brandishing heavy clubs and blades, eager to crush her. But before they could strike, Azula conjured a barrier of shadows around herself. The monsters slamd their weapons into the barrier, trying to break through, but the dark magic held strong. Still, they pounded relentlessly, and Azula knew she couldn’t hold the barrier forever.

Instead of panicking, she closed her eyes and concentrated. When they opened again, her irises were completely black, filled with the demonic power she wielded. She began to move her fingers in slow, deliberate circles, as if shaping sothing out of thin air.

At first, nothing seed to happen, but then a small cyclone, made of pure shadow, began to form outside the barrier. It grew quickly, swirling and expanding, drawing the attention of the monsters around her. The cyclone grew into a full-blown tornado, picking up speed and strength, and soon it began to pull the monsters into its grasp.

The realization hit them too late. They had thought they were the predators, closing in on a cornered prey, but now it was clear that they had fallen into Azula’s trap. The tornado of shadows consud them, lifting them into the air and hurling them about like leaves in a storm, their screams lost in the howling winds.

Unfortunately, the tornado did not discriminate between friend and foe. The powerful winds threatened to pull in anyone within range, including the Fae soldiers fighting to hold their ground.

Aldric saw the danger imdiately and shouted to the troops. "Fall back! Fall back! Get inside the barrier!"

Panic spread through the ranks as Fae soldiers scrambled to get away from the growing tornado. The witches guarding the barrier saw the chaos and realized they had to act quickly. Already exhausted, they pushed themselves even harder, expanding the barrier to allow more of their people inside.

The dark wind was picking up debris, stones, weapons—anything it could tear from the ground—and hurling them across the battlefield. Projectiles spun through the air, threatening anyone too slow to reach the protection of the barrier.

"Co on! Move it!" Aldric, Andre and Theodore urged their people on, their voices ringing out over the howling winds. It was a race against ti.

Soldiers and civilians alike rushed toward the safety of the barrier. As the last of the faeries dove into the safety of the barrier, the three princes stared at each other and with a nod, they all went in as well: Theodore first, Andre and finally Aldric.

Once inside, Aldric’s eyes darted back to the tornado. The storm was nearing the edge of the battlefield, growing more violent with each passing second. Aldric could only hope the barrier was strong enough to withstand the force of Azula’s tornado.

He was not the only one who thought the sa as the Faeries huddled together, engaged in prayers. They all knew that if the barrier failed, they would all be swept away in Azula’s dark storm. And from the look of that dark vortex, nothing could survive it.

"How is she even doing that?" Theodore’s voice cut through the chaos, filled with both awe and fear. "I thought you were the only one we had to be wary about. But it seems we were wrong."

His gaze was locked on Azula, who stood at the eye of the storm, looking like an unstoppable force of destruction. Her eyes were open but unseeing, completely consud by the raw power surging through her. The swirling darkness around her pulsed with raw, untad power, as though she had beco sothing beyond the fae and even beyond Aldric himself.

Aldric bristled at Theodore’s words, picking up the implicit threat. This was exactly why he had always kept both Islinda and Azula out of the spotlight. He could handle the fear, the hate, and the ostracization that ca with wielding dark magic. But if anyone thought they could lay a hand on his mate, they were gravely mistaken.

Before he could respond to Theodore, a cry pierced through the air. Aldric turned, his heart lurching as he saw one of the witches collapse to her knees. The strain of maintaining the barrier was too much for her.

The other witches were struggling too, especially with the other one down. Their magic flickered as they tried to hold the shield together, but cracks were beginning to show.

But even that tiny weakness was enough for Azula’s raging storm to push through, sending debris hurtling into the Fae inside. A cluster of faeries were knocked to the ground by the violent wind, panic rising like wildfire inside the protective do.

The barrier, once their sanctuary, now felt like a death trap. In the tight space, the faeries began to panic, the fear of a stampede rising.

Aldric’s instincts took over, and he rushed to the front, his dark magic surging within him. At the sa ti, King Oberon stepped forward, his expression determined.

For a brief mont, father and son shared a glance, unspoken understanding passing between them. Together, they reached out and touched the barrier where the gap had appeared.

Aldric’s dark magic flowed from his fingertips, spreading like ink to patch the hole, the shadows coiling and thickening, knitting the barrier back together.

At the sa ti, Oberon’s ice magic followed, the frost caressing the edges of Aldric’s shadows, sealing them and reinforcing the barrier with a crystalline sheen. The combined power of darkness and ice expanded, strengthening the shield against the fury outside.

Seeing this, Theodore and Andre acted quickly, each placing their hands on the barrier, reinforcing the wall with their own magic. The other faeries, seeing that their leaders’ magic was holding, reached out and infused their energy into the barrier as well.

One by one, they lent their strength, and the barrier glowed brighter, solidifying against the howling storm outside. Sparks of light, bursts of wind, whispers of earth, all manner of elental energy poured into the shield.

Aldric could feel the combined power of the fae coursing through the barrier, each one contributing what they could to hold the line. For a mont, amidst the chaos, there was unity. And it was beautiful the magic they created together.

It was a rare sight for fae of all kinds, from different courts, coming together to protect their people. The barrier beca stronger, more resilient, and they were able to withstand the storm raging just beyond its walls.

Inside the barrier, the panic began to subside as the faeries realized they were safe. The storm outside was still fierce, but their collective power held firm.

Aldric glanced at his father, their eyes eting in silent acknowledgnt of what they had just done. There was no ti for words, no ti for anything but survival. The tornado, with all its destructive power, battered against the reinforced structure, but it couldn’t break through.

They would survive this.
