Chapter 55: _ Vampires are The Bad Guys
On getting ho, the street was more secluded than normal. I knew this was typical of a Monday afternoon as everyone would either still be at work or school.
Yet, the few we t in the street all whispered about
just like on our way back. The only difference was that people here did it more discreetly.
Those on the way didn’t seem to care if I heard or not.
As soon as we entered the house, I ushered Liam inside and shut the door behind us.
He looked at
expectantly. "What now, gami?"
Argh. He was doing it again. That weird thingy.
He was probably trying to not think about the mishap that had just happened. I should help him out.
"Alright, champ," I said, forcing a smile. "Let’s get you cleaned up. Go ahead and take off your clothes, I’ll throw them in the laundry."
He nodded obediently, disappearing into his room. I took so of my and Cullen’s dirty clothes too. I needed to do sothing to get my mind off thinking.
All those horrible things said about
were always so heavy that they held
back. Liam soon returned to give his clothes to .
"Thanks, Pup." I grinned, patting his shoulder like Cullen.
I suddenly wished Cullen was here. Being light-hearted finding a way to make us laugh despite the trouble.
As I gathered the discarded clothes, my mind replayed the events of the day. More importantly, the unsettling encounter with Gamma Rhett – it all lorded over my mind.
To hell, he was the most aloof person I’d ever seen. Yet, that aloofness of his seed to draw
in.
"Isleen, what are you doing?" I grumbled, shaking my head.
I shouldn’t think about that man. Not in the way that I was doing. He was my boyfriend’s Dad.
I should rather focus on things like the killer. Yes.
Could the killer be soone within the school? The thought that such could be possible sent a shiver down my spine. I could not imagine that sort of person moving around with us.
It was crazy.
Perhaps if they had implented stricter security asures, like guards by the gate, this tragedy could have been avoided in the school. We all took things lightheartedly.
Well, things had always been good before this war.
With a sigh, I began sorting the laundry. When my fingers brushed against Liam’s shirt, a jolt of shock ran through
as I noticed a faint crimson stain on the collar.
What in the seven holy hells...?
Where did this co from?
Blood?
"Liam!" I called out imdiately.
My child had a stain on his collar. Hell.
He erged from his room, a towel wrapped around his damp hair. "Yes, Ms. Isleen?"
My voice trembled as I held up the shirt. "How did this happen? Where did you get this blood?"
His eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, that," he stamred, fidgeting with the towel. "I, uh, I got pricked by a stick while running earlier."
Oh, God. Thank God it was just a minor thing. I had no idea what I’d do if it was more than that. Everyone already thought I wasn’t qualified enough to handle the boy. Should anything happen to him, it was like telling them...
...’Oh, yeah. I can’t even take care of myself, not to ntion a boy!’
Relief washed over , montarily erasing the fear. "Oh, honey, you should have told ! You could have gotten an infection." I drew him closer, inspecting his arm for any injuries.
"But it’s all healed now," he said, a hint of pride in his voice.
My brows furrowed in confusion. "Healed? How?"
He shrugged. "I don’t know, but my wolf thingy healed it."
My jaw dropped. "Your wolf? But Liam, you’re only twelve. Your wolf hasn’t awakened yet."
He tilted his head, a thoughtful expression on his young face. "Maybe it did, just a little bit. I dunno."
Despite his nonchalance, a knot of unease tightened in my stomach. The idea of his wolf awakening so early was unsettling, to say the least. I forced a smile, trying to mask my worry.
"Alright, well, go rest for a bit. You have had a rough day at school."
He nodded and padded back to his room, leaving
standing alone with my churning thoughts. Just as I was about to resu the laundry, his voice piped up from the doorway.
"Ms. Isleen, why did Mr. Fenrir die?"
It was about ti he asked.
I hesitated, searching for the right words. "I wish I knew, sweetheart. But the pack soldiers are investigating, and they’ll find the culprit."
He seed unconvinced. "What if it was a vampire?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Vampires can’t walk in the sunlight, rember?"
He t my gaze and I saw an unsettling glint in his eyes. "If I were you, I wouldn’t be so sure of that, Ms. Isleen."
His words sent shivers down my spine. I knew it was a childish innocence but sohow, it felt...off.
"W— why?" I stamred, squinting my eyes.
Again, Liam shrugged. "Dunno, but only vampires are the bad guys, isn’t it?"
Anyone could be a bad guy. But then again, a twelve-year-old boy should be busy worrying about his howork, not this.
"Let the grown-ups worry about that, Liam. Go and take a nap. I’ll wake you up when dinner is ready." I sent him off.
I liked how he obeyed without protest. One of the things I liked about Liam was how obedient he could be.
.
I spent the rest of the afternoon doing laundry and once I was done, I got to cooking. Since Liam seed to have a huge appetite, I prepared extra for all three of us.
I was in the middle of setting the table when a knock ca on the door. I glanced at the wall clock.
It says 6:05 p.m.
"Wow. Cullen is not due to return ho until 7 p.m. It seems what happened in the school had influenced the entire pack’s activities." I muttered as I wiped my hands on the apron I draped around my neck and headed for the door.
