Chapter 34: _ Judging gazes

I barged into the living room. "Liam. Get up, it’s ti to go." I said.

Liam sprung up without hesitation. "Yayyy!" He shrieked.

Kylo sheepishly erged behind . I extended my hand to Liam, almost forgetting Lupe’s presence until she stood up.

"I guess it’s ti for

to also leave then." She declared.

I nodded at her and faked a smile. "Yeah. We’ll walk with you. Where do you stay?"

"Huh? Didn’t you know?" Lupe arched a brow.

I got confused. "Know what?"

"That we are neighbors! I live in the next building." She declared.

My mouth popped open. I did my best to avoid neighbors and other people, so much that I didn’t study their faces. It was no wonder Lupe and her late friend seed to know so much about

back at the restaurant.

I had to scratch my nape nervously. "Err. I didn’t know because..."

"Because you’d rather stare at the floor than look at people, Isleen. That’s what." Cullen hissed.

He was buried in his phone now.

I rolled my eyes and lunged for a pillow. However, Cullen saw

coming and dodged the throw. Burying his attention in his phone was just a facade.

"Asshole!" I hissed and took Liam’s hand.

Liam was busy laughing his eyes out. There were tis when I’d see so gloom in him and there were tis think he was just a harmless twelve years old. This was one of those tis.

"Let’s go, Lupe." I nodded at Lupe, totally ignoring Kylo who had been silent all along, and headed for the door.

Cullen’s voice that ca from behind made

shake my head. "Why don’t you stay back, Kylo? We’d have so fun, just us boys."

"I’ll pass, Cullen. Thanks." Kylo grimly replied and walked out of the door with us.

Cullen wouldn’t give up. "What’s up, man?" He scoffed. "Soone stole your ice cream or sothing?"

"Geez." Lupe chuckled and trailed her eyes to Kylo but when she saw no traces of smile in them, she understood the mood and went mute.

As we walked out of the building, Lupe pointed at her house. "That’s where I live, Isleen. I live with my family. You are welco to co say hi anyti."

I understood her kind gesture but I doubted that her parents would want

around. Firstly, I was the daughter of traitors. Secondly, I was an oga. Thirdly, I was breaking the pack’s traditions and daring to date soone who wasn’t my mate and was even the Gamma’s son. Lastly, I live with a boy who wasn’t my mate.

Nah. I was the kind of person parents warned their kids to stay away from. Not the typical friend Lupe’s parents would want for her. I however could not break her bubbles, so I just smiled warmly.

"Thank you, Lupe. I can’t believe you live this closely."

She patted my shoulder. "Now you do." Turning to Kylo. "Bye, Kylo. Bye, Liam."

Liam waved at her while Kylo nodded. And soon, it was just the three of us heading to the headquarters. We didn’t have comrcial cars in the pack because we didn’t need them. However, people who could afford cars get them.

This ant that we trekked our way to the headquarters but we wouldn’t get tired anyway. We were wolves after all. Had it been the fey, they’d need cars for sure. Or they could just use their magic. Both works.

Speaking of the fey, we didn’t et a single one on our way. I had been so lost in thoughts that I didn’t notice at first. It was Liam who made

realize.

"Ms. Isleen? Where are the fey?" He asked.

I snapped out of my thoughts that mont and looked around. "Oh, my. That’s true. Where are they?"

"A eting is currently ongoing between the soldiers and the fey," Kylo answered dryly.

It seed he was upset. He had been silent all through our journey. Was he mad at

now? Frankly speaking, it was

who was supposed to be mad, wasn’t it?

But then again, all Kylo did was to think for . He only wanted what was best for . However, in this case, what was best for

was for Kylo to have sex with . It was what was best for both of us.

If only he could just stop being selfless for just once!

What was wrong with him? Didn’t he understand? What if his father ca at

and I didn’t have the mory of having sex with him to fight the urge to give in to his Dad?

After this morning, I didn’t know what Gamma Rhett wanted from . I was scared.

"What is the eting about?" Liam’s question sent my thoughts packing.

Kylo sighed as we passed by a group of teen wolves pointing at us weirdly. We didn’t have to ask them why to know why.

"About the veil. It was breached during the last vampire attack. We want to find out how." Kylo answered Liam.

He wasn’t the type to dish out internal information about the security of the pack that he learned from being the Gamma’s son but I didn’t know what ca over him now.

No. I did know. He didn’t want to think about those judging gazes sweeping , sweeping us. He cared too much for . I didn’t like what that was doing to him or how worried it was making him.

"Do you think we will be able to find out how? To protect the rest of us?" Liam curiously asked Kylo again.

I turned a questioning brow to Liam. "Why are you asking so much questions?" I demanded.

I didn’t want Kylo to tell him any more. Kylo shouldn’t lose who he was for .

Liam turned his gaze to mine and I wasn’t aware of when I let go of his hand. "They killed my brother, Ms. Isleen. Don’t ask

why I want to know like you don’t already know why." He said.

A lump caught in my throat. I swallowed it down. It wasn’t just about his words. I an, yeah, I felt his pain. Losing his brother must have been hurtful and made him curious about this case.

But then, it wasn’t about that. It was about how he said those words. About how he stared daggers at . It was about how icy and cold his gaze was.
