Chapter 201: Everything Was Perfect

After a while, Rhett rushed to my side, pulling

into a hug. I’d never felt more alive. I felt beyond relieved. He still cared about . He didn’t hold what I did this morning against .

Sobbing silently into his chest, we talked extensively about ’Liam’, as I shared my grief and guilt about him with Rhett. I also shared my fears, as I rembered what my special ability had sensed earlier that day. But I couldn’t tell him about that. Not yet.

After all was said and we’d reconciled, he sealed it with a kiss. The kiss was electric, sending

into a frenzy. For a mont, I’d forgotten about my emotional turmoil. All I could think of was Rhett. Our tongues danced in each other’s mouths, as our bodies collided in a more tighter embrace.

Lord have rcy, I wanted him! I needed him. However, before things could get too heated, he pulled away, promising that we’d continue this another ti. A promise that I found myself looking forward to.

After he left, I was left alone in my room, my thoughts wandering through many things. I wanted to make my relationship with him work. But the fear of Kylo finding out and being against us still held

back.

I groaned, running my hand through my hair. I needed a drink.

I got up and opened the door, but was startled when I almost bumped into Cullen. He’d been standing there all along, and now had a huge grin on his face as he gave

a suggestive wink.

"So, did you and your mate have a good ti? I saw how flustered he looked when he left." He mused slyly, his arms crossed in front of his chest.

Unbelievable. Cullen was unbelievable!

With a scoff and a roll of my eyes, I strode past him, before speaking with an uninvested tone. "Could you not call him my mate all the ti? Also, don’t you have soone else to pester?"

Cullen’s footsteps trailed behind

as I walked down, causing

to sigh. What in the blazing thunderstorms did he want?

I halted abruptly, swerving my head to him. I could feel a vein throbbing on my forehead as I snapped. "Cullen, what?! Why are you following

around? I’m not your mama and I certainly don’t have the patience right now."

He, however, remained ever-grinning, not bothered in the slightest by my brash tone.

"Co on, just tell

more about the Gamma. Surely you must know a lot about him, being his mate and all. I’m curious." He pouted but I shook my head still.

Nuh-uh. He couldn’t be serious, right?

"What in the moon’s na do you need information on Rhett for? Haven’t you already bagged his son? Leave my mate alone, Cullen." I pointed a finger at him with a warning gaze.

Not waiting for him to reply, I walked away, heading for the kitchen. There, I poured myself a glass of wine. I didn’t usually take alcohol, but right now, I felt like I desperately needed it. Even if it was just a taste...

Sighing with satisfaction after drinking it, I strutted out of the kitchen, eting Cullen who seed engrossed in watching sothing on the news. The death of Nick, the man Rhett had co to interrogate Cullen over, was finally announced in the headlines. The way he died was really terrifying.

Imagine being killed and then no one would be able to find your body after. It was a truly unnerving thought, one that managed to send a cold shiver down my spine. This murder had ’vampire’ written all over it.

I turned my gaze to Cullen’s face, trying to grasp his expression. He seed rather calm and undisturbed, even though he’d been close to tears when Rhett announced this Nick guy’s death. That was odd.

"Hey, Cullen? What was your relationship with Nick? Is he an ex of yours or sothing?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of .

Cullen arched an eyebrow, turning his head to

now. He had a slight smile on his face as he spoke. "Does it really matter? He’s gone now. I’m just learning to accept that I’ll never see him again."

The reply felt dry. If felt devoid of any emotion or form of attachnt. Sothing was off about Cullen and I felt like I knew what that was.

"Why didn’t you tell

that you use drugs?" I finally asked a question that’d been bothering

since Rhett left.

Hearing that about Cullen was shocking, to say the least. I’d known the dude for so long and he couldn’t share that part of himself with ?

He chuckled amusingly before speaking with a low sound that sounded more like a cat than a wolf. "Isleen, believe it or not, but the world doesn’t revolve around you. Also, why would I tell you when I knew that your self-righteous self would use it to judge

as if you don’t have any skeletons in your closet?"

My jaw dropped in disbelief. Where did all that co from? Jeez, did he secretly hate

or sothing?

Before I could say sothing, however, the living room door burst open. And in ca a face I hadn’t seen all day.

"Lupe!" I shrieked playfully, rushing to go hug her. She seed to match my happiness, hugging

back while also squeaking excitedly.

"Soone looks exceptionally happy today," Cullen muttered, looking at us curiously.

But we ignored him, as I held Lupe’s hand, dragging her to the kitchen. Leaning on the counter, I gave Lupe a wide smile, one of my only genuine smiles today.

"So, how was your night with..." Lupe paused, her eyes darting to the living room. Then she proceeded to lean in closer to , whispering into my ear. "You-know-who?"

I sighed, trying to change the topic already. "Ahh, it wasn’t anything much. "

Lupe however, smirked knowingly, raising her brows suggestively. "Is that so kind of code or sothing? Cause even now, I can catch a whiff of his scent here. He’s been here today, probably coming to check up on you after your night–"

"Shut up!" I groaned dramatically, causing the both of us to laugh yet again. It was nice having this part of Lupe back. She’d seed so distraught yesterday before I left. "Never mind any of that, Lupe. Co on, tell

how your day went."

Lupe grinned like a child who had a surprise for her mother. She cleared her throat, speaking proudly.

"Well, I got a job! And you won’t believe it, but I’m going to be a teacher at the sa school you taught in. We’d be an unparalleled duo there." She clapped her hands excitedly.

anwhile, I shone my eyes with surprise, hugging Lupe with excitent brimming inside . "Gosh, I’m so happy for you. At least now you won’t be lazying around while everyone else goes to work. And now we can start gathering money for your mom’s house." But then I paused, grinning mischievously. "I’ll have to warn you though. Children can be absolute naces to work with."

We both giggled yet again. I felt like I’d begun feeling better. I had the support of my friends and my mate. I low-key didn’t feel like taking my life again. Everything was perfect.

Or at least, I hoped it was.
