Chapter 147: _ Your Father is My Soulmate
Rhett stared at
for a long mont, his expression unreadable. "Expectations," he finally said. "Right now, Isleen, the only expectation I have is for you to trust . This connection we share— it’s powerful, dangerous even. But I promise you, I won’t lead you astray. If you want us to make our reveal today, I’m your guy. But whatever you decide, I’ll respect your decision."
"Let’s et tomorrow night." I didn’t know when the words escaped .
I had blurted out those words before realizing what I had said. It was, however, too late for redemption.
Rhett’s mouth twisted in amusent. "Look who is finally being honest with herself."
Rhett’s amusent only intensified my fluster. I mumbled a weak defense, "I-I just..."
He cut
off with a low chuckle. "Don’t worry, beautiful Oga," he teased. "I won’t bite... at least not yet."
His words held a double aning– the playful threat was both thrilling and terrifying. Did he enjoy having this kind of power over ?
He had bitten
before. Would he do it again?
Heat flooded my cheeks as I realized he was right. He held all the cards in this ga, this unconventional dance we were engaged in. A part of
craved the thrill, the danger of exploring this connection further.
But another part, the more cautious side, whispered warnings of potential heartbreak. Not just of mine but others– others like Kylo.
But that wasn’t a new thing and I had made my decision. What did I truly want? A fling fueled by desire, or sothing more?
Rhett then gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering on my skin for a mont too long. "Tomorrow night then," he murmured, not giving
a chance to change my mind.
Not that I wanted to anyway.
"et
just a few blocks away from the headquarters. I will take us sowhere and we’ll have our little— discussion." His emphasis on the word ’discussion’ planted ideas in my head.
Was he trying to reassure , or was there sothing else in his mind?
Which one did I want? Like hell, I wanted that ’sothing else’.
I could only manage a silent nod as my voice was stolen by a mix of apprehension and anticipation.
Rhett’s gaze held mine for a long mont, his dark eyes seeming to probe the depths of my soul. Then, with a final, lingering touch on my cheek, he turned and strode out of the kitchen, leaving
alone with the echo of his words and the turmoil in my heart.
This man would be my undoing. Funny it was the type of undoing I wanted and yearned for. What had beco of ?
Once again, my throat suddenly felt even dryer. I had to stand yo and pour myself another gulp of water which I downed at a go.
As I turned to leave the kitchen with a smile on my face, a figure erged from the hallway, making
jump in surprise.
"Kylo?" I exclaid, guilt welling up inside of
at the sight of him.
Why did it have to be him? Why did I have to see him? Why now?
Hold on a second. I hope he didn’t see
and Gamma Rhett...
But I didn’t think so by the way he looked equally startled, blinking at
owlishly. "Isleen? What are you doing up?"
"Couldn’t sleep," I mumbled, trying to appear casual.
The lie tasted bitter on my tongue. I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about your father, Kylo. And just a few monts ago, I was in his arms, kissing and almost devouring him.
That was the truth.
He rubbed his eyes sleepily. " neither. My boss just called, so ergency at work apparently. I gotta head in."
"Oh," I said. "Business will be opened today despite the attack last night?" I asked in wonder.
Kylo shook his head, hands touching his thighs sheepishly. Look how far apart I and Kylo had drifted. I could tell he was nervous as though he was talking to a stranger.
Perhaps, there was a high chance I wasn’t the only one feeling the guilt. Seeing how nervous he seed, I could tell Kylo had done sothing wrong.
I know him way too well.
"It seems the workplace got affected by the fire last night, so all workers are needed to co to do so quick fix, I think." Kylo scratched his head and explained.
I couldn’t help a remark. "By the moon, that’s bad. That might not leave just you but the other workers jobless."
"Tough tis for our pack."
"Well, you better get going then."
"Yeah," he nodded, still looking a little dazed. "Make yourself at ho with the others. Dad won’t be back for a while."
A tiny flicker of protest rose in my throat, but I swallowed it down. That was the sa thing he told us that made
feel so relaxed until I bumped into Gamma Rhett.
"Actually, your dad is ho."
Kylo’s eyes widened. I saw undisguised fear flickered across his face. "How... how do you know that?"
"I saw him just a few minutes ago," I explained hastily.
That was a lie. I saw him, spoke to him, touched him, and kissed him. Father help
for I am taking quite a big step and walking a bold path.
Kylo’w fear intensified. "Did he see you?"
"Yes."
He groaned, burying his face in his hands. "This is bad. Like, really bad."
"What’s wrong?" I frowned.
Nothing is bad, Kylo. Your father was genuinely happy to see . He kissed . We were going to et tomorrow night, don’t you see?
Your father and I are soulmates.
"Did he say anything?" Kylo and I shook my head.
"Phew! Dad doesn’t like anyone wandering around the house, especially strangers."
My cheeks burned anew. "Oh."
"You okay?" He regarded
with a worried frown. "Did he seem— angry that I brought you guys here?"
"No, not at all," I lied readily.
Kylo didn’t need to know the truth, not yet.
