Chapter 123: _ Fishy, How?

We finally reached a landing with two identical doors branching off the hallway. Kylo stopped, pointing towards the door on the right. "This will be your room, Isleen," he said with a bit of uncertainty. "And Lupe can take the bed next to yours."

Lupe offered him a grateful smile. "Thank you, Kylo. It looks lovely."

To , it looked more than lovely.

I cast a hesitant glance at the door on the left. "Where will you, Cullen, and Liam be sleeping?"

Kylo shrugged. "We’ll take my room. It’s pretty much the sa."

Kylo would have two more people sleeping with him in his room? He really was going overboard for us. I wondered what sleeping in Gamma Rhett’s room would be like.

Before I could voice my concerns, a small hand tugged persistently at mine. "But Mommy," Liam whined, his lower lip jutting out in a familiar display of defiance, "I wanna stay with you! This big house is scary."

That’s right; Liam always slept with

in the sa room. I wasn’t sure he’d want to sleep with Kylo and Cullen.

But Kylo chuckled, tousling Liam’s hair playfully. "Co on, little man. You’ll be staying with Cullen and . It’ll be a boys’ night out. We can tell scary stories and stay up late and play video gas too."

Liam crossed his arms, his lower lip jutting out in a pout. "But Mommy might get scared at night."

What? I might get scared at night and Liam dimd himself fit to protect ? I might as well blurt into a fit of laughter right now.

Cullen, who was fiddling with his phone, scoffed. "Scared of what? It’s just a room, little man."

"Yeah, but what if a monster cos?" Liam’s voice trembled slightly.

Cullen rolled his eyes. "There are no monsters, Liam. Just relax. And who says you’re fit enough to protect Isleen from monsters? Have you forgotten how your mum is? She would nag at the monster until it ran away!" He laughed, enjoying his taunting.

Oh, please. Cullen shouldn’t start his playful nonsense. I felt a surge of protectiveness towards my son. Cullen’s shouldn’t paint

as a nagging hag to him because I really wasn’t . I was sure my Liam knew that too. Before I could intervene, however, Cullen spoke again.

"Look," he said, his gaze flickering between

and Kylo, "why don’t we just let Liam choose wherever he wants to stay? It’s not a big deal."

Now, he was talking good shit. I was about to second that when Liam surprised us all.

"Are you trying to get rid of

so you can have Kylo all to yourself for the night?" he blurted out, his eyes wide with suspicion.

Holy moly, what?

Liam might not know how suggestive his words were but that was a double entendre right there.

Lupe, who also got a hang of what I thought let out a surprised gasp before dissolving into giggles.

Kylo’s cheeks flushed a faint pink, and he stamred, "W-what? No, Liam, it’s not like that at all."

Cullen, however, seed unfazed. He smirked. "So what if I was? Isleen and him are over, right? So technically, he’s single now. I can have him."

Oh, Cullen was just dumb as always; I rolled my eyes.

But Kylo shot him a panicked look. "Cullen, stop it! I’m not into you, not gay and you’re not my mate. So co off it, man."

I felt a flicker of annoyance at Cullen’s teasing for so reason. This wasn’t the ti or place for his childish antics. I needed to put a stop to this before he wasted more of the ti we needed to rest on his gibberish.

While we were fighting and getting injured, he was under a roof, protected. So it wasn’t surprising that he still had the strength to continue his nonsense. The rest of us, however, deserved to rest.

"Alright, that’s enough, Cullen," I said firmly, taking Liam’s hand. "Let’s head to our room and get settled. Goodnight, boys." With a pointed look at Lupe who was still trying hard not to continue her annoying laughter, I added, "Co on, Lupe."

The three of us retreated into the room Kylo had assigned us, leaving the bickering boys behind. We followed Kylo’s directions and found ourselves in a surprisingly pleasant room. The room was surprisingly immaculate, furnished with a double bed, a single bed tucked into a corner, and a spacious closet.

Lupe, with a sigh of exhaustion, flopped onto the double bed, her limbs sprawled like a starfish, kicking off her shoes. "Thank goodness. This is heavenly," she mumbled, her eyelids fluttering closed.

I smiled down at her. "We all are, honey. But first things first– a shower. We reek of smoke and... well, other things. We haven’t even bathed yet," I pointed out gently, taking in the gri and bloodstains clinging to our clothes – remnants of the nightmarish fire.

Lupe groaned. "Do we really have to do that tonight? Can’t we do that tomorrow? I’m beat."

"No way, Lupe," I countered and chuckled. "We can’t stay dirty. It’ll just get itchy and uncomfortable later. Besides, Liam needs a bath too. Co on, don’t be lazy."

Just then, Liam, who had been silently exploring the room, piped up. "I always go first! Bath ti!" He dashed towards the bathroom without glancing back, the door slamming shut with a resounding thud behind him.

"Good boy," I praised him with a small smile gracing my lips. Turning to Lupe, I suggested, "Let’s wait until Liam’s done. We’ll take turns. That way, he’ll be asleep by the ti we’re finished getting ready for bed."

I wouldn’t want us two grown won getting dressed in front of my little boy.

Lupe rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she mumbled. "But Isleen, seriously? What’s with all the precautions? Liam is just a little boy."

Huh?

He was twelve and shouldn’t be exposed to such imagery just yet. Shouldn’t Lupe know that?

I hesitated, searching for the right words. "Little things matter, Lupe," I said finally. "These are important lessons. I can’t let him develop– unhealthy habits this early on. He shouldn’t see us naked, even at his age."

Lupe sighed dramatically. "Alright, alright. You’re the boss." Then, her eyes narrowed. "Speaking of things being fishy, did you catch that whole ’Kylo’s single now’ thingy Cullen did fishy?"

Huh? Fishy, how?
