The next morning, Lin Jie arrived at the University Affiliated Hospital and went straight to the gastroenterology departnt, only to find Chen Shi standing in front of a comprehensive diagnostic room.
"Your patient has arrived!"
Chen Shi pointed to the comprehensive diagnostic room beside him and continued, "Lin Jie, this young boy has also been to the hospital before for check-ups, and I participated in the consultations."
"Now that you've taken over, may I observe and learn?"

On the examination bed sat or lay a teenage boy, about fourteen or fifteen years old, with a thin face and sowhat listless expression.
Xue Linlin stood on one side of the examination bed.
On the other side stood a middle-aged couple in their forties, elegantly and appropriately dressed.

Lin Jie nodded towards the boy and Wei's parents, acknowledging them.
Then he reached out to take a stack of examination reports, all in English, from Lu Xiaoyu's hand, and began slowly browsing through them.

This hospital is one of the best in New York and is a teaching hospital for both Columbia University and Cornell University. Its gastroenterology departnt ranks around the top ten in the U.S.
Moreover, the examination data was from just three days ago, and Lin Jie found the data quite reliable.

Lin Jie pointed to the thick examination data back in He Yimin's hand and said, "This data clearly tells one fact."
"Your son's stomach has no problem."
"Yet you assertively say your son indeed has stomach pain, and it's severe!"
Lin Jie looked at the boy on the examination bed and slowly said, "If your son isn't a lying genius with acting skills, perhaps what's hurting... isn't the stomach at all!"
"Wei Dongxing, I need your stomach to hurt now, can you do that?"
Wei Dongxing was taken aback, glanced at his parents, and softly said, "Doctor, I can't do it. My stomach pain cos suddenly; I can't control it."
Lin Jie continued to ask, "Under what circumstances does your stomach pain usually occur?"
Wei Dongxing thought for a mont, uncertainly saying, "If I eat until I'm very, very full, my stomach usually starts to hurt."
Lin Jie said to Wei's parents, "Go buy food for your son; I need his stomach to start hurting."
Wei's father asked, sowhat hesitantly, "Expert Lin, every ti we co for a hospital check-up, they ask for fasting. Should we really go buy..."
"What are you dithering about?"
Wei's mother interrupted, urgently saying, "If Expert Lin uses the sa old thod, how can we find out the true cause of our son's condition."
"Go quickly and buy so food, buy more."

Wei Dongxing started eating while Lin Jie and the others watched him silently from the side.
As he finished nearly a pile of food with still no sign of stomach pain, Wei's father went out and bought another batch.
Watching as most of this batch disappeared, Wei Dongxing nearly gagged, eyes rolling back a little. But under Lin Jie's unyielding gaze, he reluctantly continued to stuff food into his mouth.
Wei's parents looked on sympathetically but did not dare to voice any objections against stopping him.

He gritted his teeth and shoved the bread into his mouth.

"Take your hand away; I'll do an examination!"
He quickly went forward and pressed his hand where Wei Dongxing was holding.
"Does it hurt here? Or here? Or..."
Lin Jie's hand moved in a small area, pressing firmly, and soon he heard Wei Dongxing gasping and exclaiming, "That's it, that's it..."
"Ultrasound probe!"
Following Lin Jie's command, Wei Hongyang brought over the ultrasound machine from the side of the bed.
He handed the probe to Lin Jie and quickly applied dical coupling gel to the area Lin Jie's hand had been on.
This dical coupling gel is a new generation water-based polyr gel product, mainly used as a dium to isolate air.
Since dical ultrasound frequencies range from 2.5-5M, they have very poor propagation in air.
To avoid the air between the probe and skin from interfering with the ultrasound and causing image distortion, the gel needs to be applied.
This gelatinous liquid reduces gaps between the probe and the body surface, allowing seamless contact between the probe and skin for better scanning and visualization.
With the slide of the probe in Lin Jie's hand, the ultrasound image imdiately displayed on the screen.
Looking at the flashing image on the screen, Chen Shi, who was observing intently, couldn't help but say, "dian arcuate ligant syndro!"
"What is this dian arcuate whatever... ligant what syndro?" Wei's mother urgently asked.
He Yimin explained, "dian arcuate ligant syndro (MALS) refers to a ligant tightly encircling the celiac artery. It swells and tightens when the patient eats or exercises, compressing the celiac artery, causing acute pain."
She added, full of delight, "This is an extrely rare condition and is on my list of rare cases to encounter in my lifeti. Didn't expect to co across one so soon..."
