In the evening, Zeng Yang brought over so of the latest test sheets for Ma Jinshou. Lin Jie went over them several tis but still couldn't make sense of them.
Seeing this, Lin Jie decided to put it aside for now and do a comprehensive diagnosis once all of Ma Jinshou's test data were available.
He returned ho, and it was nearly seven in the evening.
As soon as he entered, Lin Jie saw Lele, as usual, wagging its tail, ready to run over and greet him.
"Lele, stop, don't go!"
Lin Miao, who was watching TV in the living room, suddenly spoke, and her tone was stern.
Lele stopped in its tracks, looked back at Lin Miao, then at Lin Jie, seeming a bit confused.
Lin Miao intensified her tone, commanding, "Lele, co back!"
Lele gave Lin Jie a helpless look, turned, limped back to Lin Miao, jumped onto the sofa, and lay down against Lin Miao's leg.
Lin Jie also walked over to Lin Miao and reached out to stroke her head.
"What's the matter with you? Jealous of Lele?"
It was then that he noticed Zhang Xiaoxiao and An Keng sitting on the other side of the sofa, looking a bit pale.
Concerned, he asked, "What's going on? Did you two have a quarrel?"
Lin Miao turned her head, avoiding Lin Jie's hand, and with her cheeks puffed out, said, "Lin Jie, we didn't quarrel, we're upset."
Hearing the girl call his na once more, Lin Jie understood she had an issue with him, and it was quite significant.
He asked with insight, "You found out I scolded Kexin?"
Lin Miao nodded vigorously, reproaching, "It was a unanimous decision by , Xiaoxiao, and Kexin to ask Dr. Tan to do psychological counseling for you. Directing your words at Kexin alone was wrong, really wrong."
"And , and , I agreed to it too," An Keng added eagerly.
Amused inside, but with a serious face, Lin Jie said, "According to you, I should also give you, Keng, and Xiaoxiao a lecture equally?"
"Don't purposely twist my words."
Lin Miao got a bit frantic, angrily saying, "During our discussion, Kexin explicitly ntioned that you have resistance to psychological consultation and don't want to see a psychologist."
"Xiaoxiao and I believe the more you resist, the more you need to see one. Kexin was persuaded by us, you wronged her by scolding her."
"Ajie, that's indeed the case."
Zhang Xiaoxiao also spoke, "Over the past year, you've changed a lot and gone through a lot, with Miaomiao's injury, having your marrow extracted by relatives, and then the recent earthquake experience."
"Plus the daily tornt before your surgery; we all think you're the one among us who needs to see a psychologist the most."
"Brother Jie, I think so too," An Keng added.
Lin Jie understood this was their concern for him.
However, he had reasons that couldn't be spoken to avoid seeing a psychologist, such as the matter of Shen Lanruo haunting his heart and the deeply hidden story of the Li Donghai couple.
Unable to open up to a psychologist and instead having to be cautious of every word for fear of slipping up, in such circumstances, psychological counseling would not relieve but exacerbate one's ntal burden.
Facing the concern from Lin Miao, Zhang Xiaoxiao, and An Keng, Lin Jie couldn't forcibly suppress their intentions and explained, "As you know, I'm a doctor, even a general practitioner."
"Regarding psychological analysis, while it's not my specialty, my knowledge isn't inferior to typical psychologists. I clearly understand my psychological state and know how to vent out my negative emotions properly."
"Therefore, I don't need to see a psychologist, do you get it?"
Zhang Xiaoxiao and Lin Miao nodded in so understanding, but An Keng asked, "Brother Jie, isn't there this saying that a healer cannot heal themselves?"
Lin Jie snorted with self-satisfaction and said, "Who am I? Can I be the sa as ordinary doctors? What they can't do, I can accomplish, and even do better."
These words, spoken so unreasonably and dominantly, completely won over Lin Miao and An Keng.
An Keng nodded with conviction, saying, "That's true, Brother Jie is a miracle-maker; you can do what others cannot."
Seeing his nonsense was effective, Lin Jie continued to bluff, "And let tell you sothing else."
"All along, I've been adjusting different dications and exercising through various thods to nourish and train this heart of mine."
He pointed to his left chest and said, "Recent follow-up checks have shown my heart is strong and healthy, even better than many ordinary people's hearts, with no signs of damage caused by rejection."
"The heart surgeons at the Affiliated Hospital say in my case, I'll definitely set a record for the longest-surviving heart transplant patient, no problem living at least another forty or fifty years."
"Brother, is that true?" Lin Miao asked, eyes shining brightly with excitent.
Lin Jie reached out and patted her head, earnestly saying, "This concerns my own life and death, such a major thing, how could I lie to you."
"That's wonderful, wonderful!"
Lin Miao jumped up in excitent, shouting, "Brother, you can stay with us forever, so great, so great!"
"This is truly good news!"
Zhang Xiaoxiao spoke softly, quietly wiping the corner of her eye.
An Keng also ca over and hugged Lin Miao, jumping up in excitent.
After a while, An Keng stopped her excitent and urgently said, "Brother Jie, sister is still sad and upset in the bedroom, and she hasn't had dinner. You should go apologize and comfort her!"
Lin Jie recalled that phone call with An Kexin.
In his anger, he might have said sothing excessive, especially that "only allowed once" which seed like an ultimatum.
Unable to set aside his pride, he huffed and said, "Kexin knew I refused psychological counseling and still agreed privately, that's her fault."
"Being scolded by , and now pouting and skipping als, that's even more wrong."
"I'll go scold her again."
Seeing Lin Jie striding vigorously towards the second floor, An Keng got a little anxious and worriedly shouted, "Brother Jie, sister she..."
Lin Miao tugged on An Keng, halting her words, and whispered, "Why are you worrying blindly? Don't forget, on the night of the earthquake at Bamboo Sea, my brother was ready to live and die with your sister."
"It's just a small quarrel, nothing to worry about..."
Lin Jie went up to the second floor and, as he stepped into the corridor, heard urgent footsteps behind him. He turned to see Zhang Xiaoxiao quickly catching up.
He smiled and said, "Sister Xiaoxiao, don't worry, I'm just talking, I won't really scold Kexin."
Zhang Xiaoxiao shot him a look and huffed, "I know you too well, too soft-hearted. Now that you have status and position, you act tough with outsiders, but you're still the sa with your own people."
"I'm just reminding you…"
Zhang Xiaoxiao approached a bit more, whispering, "Ah Jie, you can comfort and persuade any way you like, but you absolutely must not apologize!"
"Ah…" Lin Jie was a bit puzzled.
Zhang Xiaoxiao said with a bit of frustration, "You silly! Let ask you, is this the first ti you and Kexin have had a quarrel?"
Lin Jie thought for a mont, nodded, and said, "I think it is."
"The first ti having a quarrel, whoever backs down first, will set the precedent for who holds the household position in future."
"Ah Jie, Kexin is a company president outside. If you're not tough enough and admit fault first, your position as the head of the family will lessen at ho."
Lin Jie made a sound of acknowledgent and said, "Sister Xiaoxiao, don't worry, I won't apologize."
"This issue, Kexin could have managed better; after all, it's her fault…"
Pushing the door open, Lin Jie saw An Kexin leaning against the head of the bed, looking at her phone.
Seeing Lin Jie enter, An Kexin got off the bed and weakly said, "You're back?"
Lin Jie nodded authoritatively, seriously saying, "Keng said you haven't eaten dinner yet?"
"I don't have much appetite." An Kexin lowered her head.
Lin Jie lightly made a sound, then sternly said, "I haven't eaten either, later I'll make two bowls of my specialty noodles with vegetables, shrimp, and shredded at, and you'll accompany and eat a bit."
An Kexin's mouth slightly curved up, and she softly said, "Okay…"
Binhai University Affiliated Hospital, a luxurious single room in the pediatrics ward.
Zeng Yang and three nurses wheeled in several monitoring devices.
Grandma Ma stood up and inquired, "Dr. Zeng, what is this?"
"These devices are for Ma Jinshou's sleep monitoring, capable of recording his breathing, heart rate, EEG, and organ function during sleep."
Grandma Ma frowned, looked at her grandson on the hospital bed, who had a fearful expression on his face, and said, "My grandson is a light sleeper. With so many monitoring devices on him, he might not sleep at all tonight."
Zeng Yang thought for a mont and said, "If Ma Jinshou can't sleep, I will ask the on-duty pediatrician to prescribe so dication to help with sleep."
Auntie Wang, listening on the side, couldn't help but say, "How can children take sleeping pills?"
She said discontentedly, "Dr. Zeng, not to ntion, isn't your Dr. Lin being irresponsible?"
"After just one visit, he has disappeared for a couple of days, leaving you to handle all the checks for our Jinshou."
Grandma Ma didn't stop Auntie Wang's words, and she herself had a stomach full of grievances about Lin Jie's absence these past days.
Auntie Wang continued to complain, "Dr. Lin, claid to be a dical genius unprecedented, an all-capable expert, keeps insisting on various checks, what's going on?"
"If the condition can be detected by machines, why do we need him, a dical expert?"
Zeng Yang sternly replied, "Before you sought my teacher, surely you've consulted many renowned pediatric experts and undergone similar comprehensive checks."
"Had a definitive diagnosis been made before, you wouldn't have co here."
"Once all the test results are in, my teacher will naturally co to provide Ma Jinshou with a thorough diagnosis."
Zeng Yang, full of admiration, said, "I can assure you, if anyone in this world can diagnose Ma Jinshou's enigmatic ailnt, that person… is definitely my teacher."
