Feng Xue flipped through the book in her hands, her expression gradually becoming solemn. Although there was no information directly pointing to the root cause, there was still so important information.

For example, death.

The concept of death in this world was profoundly distorted. If the contents of the book were true, it ant that there were no real "accidents" in the real world.

All deaths were orchestrated by so entity, and deaths outside the plan were not allowed.

Simply put, there was sothing akin to the "Book of Life and Death" that chronicled everyone’s ti and thod of death; moreover, even if one fell from the tallest building in the world, got hit by a high-speed train, was placed in a coffin and sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic, or even consud by a super volcanic eruption and thrown into outer space, as long as the fated day hadn’t arrived, one would definitely not die.

It might not sound like a significant issue since fate doesn’t hold much value if no one can observe it.

But the problem was that the existence of "fate" itself seed to suppress the technological and developntal progress of this world.

Reading the description in the book, Feng Xue nodded slightly. If she judged based on the world she originally ca from, the dream world and the reality of this world were nearly thirty years apart. However, considering that her world’s technological advancent had been slowed down by the discipline of materials science, which had a huge impact on luck, the ti this world entered such a state might be even longer.

"So, this ’fate’ could be a ’Kaidan’ that appeared only in recent decades? It’s unclear whether it’s a congenital or acquired Kaidan, but if it’s the latter, the influence it has is truly impressive!"

Feng Xue muttered to herself, continuing to flip through the book. She understood that no one would die accidentally in reality, but what about death in dreams?

And this "Dream Guardian Code" did not disappoint her anticipation; it provided an answer in the prologue—

Dream corruption.

In the dream world, human developnt and progress were not interfered with by fate, even more so because dying only ant losing the mories between two periods of sleep, which reduced the cost of trial and error.

Although everything would be forgotten upon waking, one could still rember the things from the real world when they re-entered the dream, to the point where so people gradually began to view reality as an illusion and the dream world as the real world.

It was for this reason that the Dream Guardians referred to entering dreams as ’awakening’ and waking up as ’slumbering.’

If it were just that, it might be fine, but the problem lay in the fact that as one died in the dream, the individual would gradually beco rigid and numb, until one day, various types of bizarre monsters would hatch from their body and kill more people. The Dream Guardians referred to this as corruption.

But those who were corrupted did not truly die; they could still resurrect in the dream world. After resurrection, they would lose their previous numbed state and revert to their original personalities, as though reset to factory settings. Although there seed to be no change, those who understood this chanism couldn’t help but ponder whether the body still housed the sa person it once did.

Or perhaps, had it been taken over by sothing else?

"From the fact that the Ghost Hand tried to kill , it seems that once fully corrupted, you truly die—what a bone-chilling world."

Feng Xue gently massaged her head and continued to flip the pages, soon coming across the formation of the Dream Guardian Organization.

Strictly speaking, the Dream Guardians were not an organization but a loose alliance ford by people who recognized the dangers hidden within the dream world.

According to the book, about forty years ago, as people gradually realized that one could be resurrected in the dream world, many treated it like a ga. At that ti, the dream world was a hotbed of chaos and corruption, with suppressed desires and madness from the real world erupting and infecting others rapidly.

Various cris filled the dream world, with large numbers of people dying daily, only to reenter the endless cycle of reincarnation the following night.

This madness quickly spawned a mass of corrupted beings, and those monsters joined the deadly feast.

Later, the founders of the Dream Guardian Organization realized the severity of the issue. They used the Obsession Objects left by the dead corrupted beings to establish the organization, hunting demons, and setting order, until after several decades, most of the initially corrupted had t their fated deaths, and the world finally stabilized.

However, at the end of the day, a dream is still a dream. Even without the initial wave of rampant cri, people still perform dangerous acts in their dreams. The low cost of death, combined with inherent accidents and not to ntion the corrupted beings hunting humans, ant that the corrupted never disappeared completely.

As for why this isn’t public knowledge...

Ordinary people cannot retain these mories; they forget everything related to supernatural powers after waking up from sleep, and the only way to avoid this is by personally killing incubation beings.

According to this book, killing corrupted beings grants one so special knowledge and a certain chance to condense an Obsession Object, and after acquiring this special knowledge, one will not forget mories related to extraordinary powers.

It is worth ntioning that this world never lacks villains; so people deliberately repeatedly kill the sa individual, artificially creating corrupted beings and acquiring knowledge and Obsession Objects through killing these beings. Half of the Dream Guard’s rulebook is a denunciation of these kinds of people.

At the end of this rulebook, so mysterious knowledge is also recorded, mostly about specific types of monsters’ weaknesses and the nas of a few great entities that seem to be the source of the corrupted beings and the power of the Obsession Objects, such as Hos of flesh and mutation, Ru Jin of proliferation and dominance, Glaun of intoxication and erosion, Vibor of scorching and corruption, and so on...

Looking at this information, then glancing at the "Glaun’s Wine Bottle" on the table, Feng Xue had a sowhat peculiar expression on her face.

She didn’t continue to diverge her thoughts but put down this introductory book. Based on the nas, she flipped through other books related to Dream Guardians and corrupted beings, and finally, just before Qing Jin finished writing the report, she found the root cause of the problem that needed to be solved before "falling asleep"—

Just as the body in the real world does not disappear after dreaming, after awakening, the body in the dream world also still exists. The corrupted beings lock onto every Dream Guardian they interact with and target them for hunting first.

This ant that if one couldn’t kill a corrupted being completely, there was a high chance of being killed by the corrupted being in the real world without knowing it, and when re-entering the dream, all mories related to that corrupted being would also disappear.

"For sure, this is definitely no ordinary Kaidan! Ordinary Kaidan can’t pull off these kinds of tricks!"
