Observing the effects of the two Phantom Objects without leaving a trace, Feng Xue suppressed the urge to twitch his facial muscles. Although he was well aware that these items were ford from powers such as Kaidan and Cognition, it was clear from their descriptions that these items were loaded with powerful effects!
"This Kaidan might be more troubleso than I thought. Just the fact that it can mass-produce such dubious items is enough to say a lot."
Muttering to himself in his heart, Feng Xue noticed that the two people who were originally communicating finally focused their attention on him. The woman with Ruijin’s Eyes caressed the blue poison snake wrapped around her wrist and narrowed her eyes as she said,
"A new face?"
Feng Xue frowned slightly and let out a hint of murderous intent. Although it wasn’t directed at a person, the woman clearly felt the stiffness and anxiety of the small snake on her wrist and realized sothing. She did not speak again, and the man with Quis’s Touch, who wanted to say sothing, also kept silent after noticing the woman’s reaction. Instead, he turned his attention to the man who had brought Feng Xue.
"This matter is complicated. An extra person ans extra strength. I’ve tested him; he’s not corrupt."
With that, the man turned his head back to Feng Xue and said,
"We are both permanent Dream Guardians of this city. You can call Qing Jin. I have the ability to detect the corrupted. Her codena is She Tong. She’s adept at cultivating poisonous snakes, skilled in using poison, and also..."
"Just call Detective. I’m good at searching for items." The man who called himself Detective interrupted Qing Jin’s introduction and reported what he specialized in. Feng Xue nodded and said in a calm tone,
"You can call Doctor."
...
The three people in the room fell into a brief silence. Although having dical assistance in this line of work was undoubtedly a good thing, this man didn’t even bring a dical kit, so everyone was uncertain about how useful he could be.
However, having one more person could at least spread out the pressure a bit, so no one wasted words. Qing Jin stood up, gestured with his hand, and said:
"Anyway, co with first," Qing Jin said as he strode past the bar, which was devoid of even half a bottle of liquor, and headed towards the restroom on the side. As the door swung open, the silhouette of a person outlined with white tape appeared into view. However, more captivating than this familiar sight from cri dramas, were the bloodstains splattered all around.
"The cri scene preservation here is terrible," She Tong glanced around the scene, which was almost devoid of any other clues except for nurous bloodstains and still had many footprints around, with a touch of helplessness on her face—as if this kind of situation wasn’t uncommon.
Qing Jin also expressed his helplessness, saying, "After all, that’s how it is in the dream. Anyway, the dead person will co back to life the next day, and apart from losing a day’s mory, there won’t be ’any’ problems. If it weren’t for so remnants of common sense from the real world, they wouldn’t even bother to lock down the scene."
"Forget it, we had anticipated this anyway. Let see if there’s anything around..." The Detective was speaking when Feng Xue suddenly said, "Sothing seems to have burst out from the corpse. It’s not very big, but it’s incredibly fast. Although I’m certain it ca out while the heart was still beating, the wound appeared after the person had already fallen, and it ca from the front, around... the chest area..."
"How do you know that?" The Detective furrowed his brows at Feng Xue, whose confidence suggested he had seen it with his own eyes, although the Detective felt he could have co to the sa conclusion, just not as quickly.
Feng Xue casually pointed to the bloodstains on the ground, "The blood is radiating out, and there are no obvious gaps around the human outline; this indicates that there was nothing blocking around the body when the blood sprayed out, aning the assailant wasn’t nearby. Judging from the amount of blood, it must have been a massive spurt instantly; otherwise, there would have been a pool of blood from continued bleeding around the person.
"To cause the situation we see now, almost all of the blood must have been expelled in an instant, which ans the perpetrator moved extrely fast, and the victim’s blood pressure must have been very high at that mont. Plus, these bloodstains are mixed with so bits of viscera that weren’t cleaned up. I found stomach and lung tissues, along with so gastric acid..."
"So it seems like the work of a Heart-devouring Demon or sothing similar. Seriously, why do these things that should only appear in big cities co to such small places?" Qing Jin held his forehead in pain, while Feng Xue pretended not to notice the other’s retching gesture. With a tone completely hiding his ignorance of whatever a Heart-devouring Demon was, he spread his hands and said, "Who can say why these things happen? I’m just on a trip; who would have thought I’d luckily encounter this? Anyway, do you have any clues? I’m not very adept at tracking."
"Let try," She Tong gently touched the ring embedded with a Phantom Object disguised as a cat’s eye stone. The snake on her wrist slithered down her arm and onto the ground, and soon after, a faint rustling sound could be heard.
The Detective also activated the power of his Phantom Object, spreading his spiritual power through the surrounding crystalline minerals.
Both of them were restrained in their use of Phantom Objects, making Feng Xue aware that they must understand the side effects of using these items well, leading him to wonder whether this was so kind of identification ability or a special chanism within the dream world.
However, just as Feng Xue was mulling this over, a sudden sense of crisis surged through him without hesitation. He jumped to the side, and right after, a tile crashed where he had just been standing.
Feng Xue imdiately looked up to see the ghost hand that had been perched on his shoulder now annoyed and floating near the ceiling. It goes without saying that this was another failed assassination attempt.
But...
"Why does the ghost hand think this could kill ? Isn’t this the Dream World? Qing Jin also ntioned that people co back to life the next day after dying here, only losing their mory..."
Although he thought this, Feng Xue also understood that things were not so straightforward; otherwise, the investigations of these people would seem aningless.
So, death really does have so sort of catch, right?
Like, do you truly die in the real world if you die too much in a dream?
