Yu Ye couldn’t believe her ears.

Ji Qinglin had just casually said he’d get her a cultivation ridian set for Stealing the Celestial Path—his tone was so calm that even she almost believed it.

"Master, you’re not joking, right? A Stealing the Celestial Path set? The ridian version? And A-rank?"

All cultivation components were classified using the ancient English lettering system, ranked from best to worst as S, A, B, C, and D. A-rank was already near the top, and ridians were major components.

Cold Yu Ye: You’d have to sell this whole store to afford that.

Mad Yu Ye: I’m more inclined to believe he sold us instead.

Ji Qinglin wasn’t surprised by Yu Ye’s shocked expression.

"Don’t get too excited yet. I said it’s for my disciple, but you’re still in the evaluation period. Whether you truly beco my disciple depends on whether you pass the test."

Mad Yu Ye: Tch, so it was all just an empty promise.

"Master, what kind of test are we talking about?"

Ji Qinglin, who had been lounging in the chair behind the counter, sat up and said seriously,

"Relax. I won’t ask you to do anything impossible. The test is simple, with only one rule: during the test period, you must trust

unconditionally. Can you do that?"

Unconditional trust?

Yu Ye hadn’t expected her master’s requirent to be sothing so vague.

Mad Yu Ye: What kind of joke is this? Unconditional trust? So we’re just supposed to obey whatever he says? This is basically a scam.

Cold Yu Ye: It does sound strange, but I don’t think that’s what he ans.

Ji Qinglin looked serious, not like he was joking. After hesitating for a mont, Yu Ye replied,

"You’ve really given

a tough one. A request like this has no clear boundaries. If I agree too quickly, I’m afraid I won’t be able to follow through."

Negotiating? That ant she was seriously considering it, which was actually more reassuring than an imdiate yes.

Ji Qinglin shrugged.

"No rush. Think it over and let

know before sunset today."

Seeing that he had no intention of lowering the standard, Yu Ye pulled a chair over to sit in front of him and asked,

"In that case, may I ask why you set this requirent?"

Ji Qinglin reached out and called over Coal Boss, who had been eating feed in an elaborate manner. He stroked the bird’s black feathers and said,

"Coal Boss was being hunted by a flock of crows and, in desperation, landed on my shoulder. At that ti, we didn’t know each other. A wounded, unlucky bird like him landing on a person usually ans instant death, but in that mont, he chose to gamble—and that’s how we ford our bond."

Seeing that Yu Ye still didn’t fully understand, Ji Qinglin explained further,

"I know you’re worried about the risks of ‘unconditional trust.’ But do you think taking in a disciple is risk-free for ?

"In this world, what do you think is the rarest thing? Cultivation resources? Talent? No. It’s trust.

"Trust is mutual. The one who trusts first is always at a disadvantage—like the first person to go all-in at a gambling table. What I need is soone willing to go all-in with ."

Yu Ye nodded thoughtfully, understanding his point.

Cold Yu Ye: He’s not trying to force

to do anything. It’s more like a pledge of loyalty.

Mad Yu Ye: Like how in romance, the one who falls in love first loses?

Cold Yu Ye: What kind of garbage analogy is that?

"Then aren’t you afraid that, after I officially beco your disciple, I might stop trusting you or even betray you?"

"Hah. If I wanted a perfectly obedient disciple, I could just get a robot—why would I need a human? If you can’t even do it during the test period, why would I believe you could do it later?

"And if you do end up betraying , it’s fine. I’ll just take in another disciple."

Mad Yu Ye: Another disciple? He doesn’t have any disciples right now… so did his last one betray him? Or… was he killed?

"You can take your ti to think about it."

"No need, Master. I agree."

Mad Yu Ye: Hey! That’s way too impulsive!

Cold Yu Ye: He didn’t hesitate to trust us, so what right do we have to be so guarded against him? He’s right—when it cos to trust, soone has to go all-in first. Besides, it’s just a test.

Mad Yu Ye: Fine, fine. But just so you know, I didn’t agree. There’s still room to back out.

Seeing how decisively Yu Ye agreed after understanding his reasoning, Ji Qinglin smirked slightly.

"Good. You really are the one I chose. Tonight, I’ll take you to pick up your cultivation ridian set."

"Tonight? The security at those biotech companies isn’t sothing we can just waltz past. I just got out of prison—I’m not looking to go back in with you."

Ji Qinglin frowned.

"Do I look like so petty thief?"

Mad Yu Ye: Of course not. Your moral bottom line is way lower than a thief’s.

"No, you actually look more like a murderer."

"Cut the nonsense. Here, put this on—I want to see how it looks."

Ji Qinglin tossed her a package. It was the clothing he had secretly purchased from the clothing store last night.

Yu Ye weighed the package in her hands, feeling a bit puzzled.

Cold Yu Ye: Why the sudden wardrobe change? A cultivation robe?

Mad Yu Ye: No idea. But I have a bad feeling about this.

Seeing Ji Qinglin’s amused expression, Yu Ye didn’t ask any further questions and took the package upstairs.

Not long after, Coal Boss flapped his wings and flew toward the second floor, seemingly curious about the outfit. But before he could reach the top—

"AH?!"

A shocked and angry shriek echoed from upstairs, scaring Coal Boss so badly that he imdiately turned and flew back down.

Ji Qinglin thought to himself, Co on, was that reaction really necessary? I picked a classic style, okay?

Five minutes later, Yu Ye slowly ca downstairs, clutching her clothes.

The loose-fitting, milky-white short-sleeved top stopped just above her navel, exposing a slender, fair waist and faintly visible abs. The gray pleated skirt barely reached her knees.

Didn’t expect to find a sailor uniform in this era. A true classic never fades.

Even though she was wearing a sailor uniform, her alluring figure gave it a mix of youthful charm and a hint of seduction. Her face was flushed red, and her eyes practically burned with fury.

"Master, this ‘trust’ you ntioned… it’s not just so excuse to satisfy your personal tastes, is it?"

Mad Yu Ye: Hah. n’s ‘trust’ only ever cos in three flavors—I’ll just hug you,I’ll just cuddle, take this pill…

Cold Yu Ye: Wow. Thanks for the comforting words.

Ji Qinglin stroked his chin as he appraised her, nodding in satisfaction. Yep. No man can resist a sailor uniform.

"Perfect. I’ll add so decorations to the collar around your neck. Tonight, wear this outfit when we go out—you’ll have your cultivation ridian set by then."

Yu Ye clenched her fists, resisting the urge to slap him. But her last bit of rationality kept her in check as she gritted her teeth and said,

"Master, I respect you, and I understand your struggles, but I will never sell my body or soul!"

"Hiss—who said anything about selling your body or soul? What exactly do you think of ?"

Yu Ye spread her arms, displaying the well-fitted sailor uniform, as if saying: Do I really need to explain?

Even Coal Boss landed on her shoulder, hiding behind her black hair while sneakily admiring the view, shaking his head in agreent with Yu Ye.

"Ga ga—"

"The details are a secret, but I promise it’s not what you’re thinking. You’ll understand when the ti cos. And rember—you agreed to trust ."

Mad Yu Ye: This isn’t a pledge of loyalty. This is a damn contract of servitude.
