Having the least stored mana, the third foxfire beast was left with the task of informing their master.
There is a worry of who will take charge between the two rowdy and mischievous foxfire beasts now that the mindful one is going back, but oh well, there is a more pressing issue that needs quick fixing. And only their master, Shen Yuan, could do that.
The little fox scuttled through the hallways of the Diyu, moving at blinding speeds.
"Waah!" It is finally out of the Diyu when it ets soone familiar.
"That little fox!" Chairman Mao exclaid upon seeing the haggard pup. They quickly arrived from the Qilin Academy in hopes of intercepting whatever the Cardinals had planned, but seeing Shen Yuan’s foxfire beast in such a sorry state, it seed like they were not quick enough.
"Waaaah. Waaah. Waaah," The little foxfire pup imdiately breaks out in a whining fit. It pathetically recounted all of the atrocities it walked into inside the Diyu.
’You must go inside! People are dying inside! And bad guys are taking back the stinky corpse whisperer!’ it said desperately. It looked even more heartbreaking, especially since a lone tear (or lava?) stread down its eyes.
Chairman Mao felt heartbroken seeing the cute little fox miserable. He lowered himself and touched the little one’s head.
"Don’t worry. Everything will be fine now that I am here."
"Waah?!" The little foxfire beast enjoyed the touch. It is reassuring now that Chairman Mao is here. This old man is his master’s trusted ally, so the foxfire beast finally rests easy.
Mo Lihua, who is following behind the old chairman, winced in disgust. "Is it okay to touch that little fox? It looks dirty."
The third foxfire beast angrily bared its fangs at the female alpha.
How dare she insult a gorgeous foxfire beast?! Is she asking for a beating?
The little fox thought of a petty stunt to avenge its bruised ego.
However, before the pup even acted on its feelings, Chairman Mao scooped it up and hopped away dodgingly!
"Waaah?!" The little fox’s tongue flapped like a flag. What is it this ti?!
Boom!
An explosion of wind and dust savagely hit anyone on the ground. Chairman Mao and Mo Lihua squinted their eyes to protect their sight from the dust, while the foxfire beast caught the blast of wind using his cheeks.
Be careful around invisible things. Chairman Mao and Mo Lihua stood with bated breath, waiting to see what caused a massive explosion.
Chairman Mao used his azure eyes to see past the veil of dust, and soon, he saw a mountain-like silhouette of an animal.
"A toad?!" He blurted out in shock. This is the first ti he has seen a toad monster that is as huge as Jing Hill. That is the smallest mountain in the country, but if used in the scale of an animal— particularly a toad— it only ans that it is a one hell of a monster!
Not to ntion, the three mana-filled tentacles sprouting from the monster’s behind. It is a never-before-seen feature in today’s physiology of dungeon monsters. Was it a mutated toad, then? Probably.
However, sothing screams unnatural at the energy it’s releasing. Chairman Mao could see the murky energy seeping through its bones, as well as the mana of the suspicious person hiding behind the massive toad.
There will be a tough road ahead. They have another S-class awakener to beat.
"Listen, little fox. You are on your way to return to your master, right?" The foxfire beast nodded. "Sneakily make your way as I engage with this enemy. You are free to explain everything that happened here to Shen Yuan, and once you are done, tell him that it is up to him if he wants to join the party."
Shen Yuan’s little fox nodded hard.
"Mo Lihua," Chairman Mao turned to his supporter. "The situation has changed. We cannot enter the building at the sa ti, so I need you to go first without . Save as many as you can along the way and ultimately, stop Bruno Rivera from reaching the necromancer."
Mo Lihua harrumphed. "Beating a few B- and A-class awakeners is a child’s play for ."
In the honest part of her mind, she thinks that this is a good chance to show that she is much better than Shen Yuan. It’s ti for her to flex the blessing of the phoenix in her blood!
The clock is ticking, and lives are slipping away as ti passes.
"Go!"
With a clear plan on hand, Chairman Mao resolutely ran to attack the massive toad. Mo Lihua and the others also sprinted, just as planned.
However, that was when the giant toad’s tentacles started moving. The three big and girthy tentacles, as big as the cables used in a suspension bridge, wreaked havoc.
One tried to grab the sly little fox back, one tried to stop Mo Lihua from advancing, and the last one tried to attack Chairman Mao.
But the trio are masters in their own way.
"Hmmm, disgusting shit," Mo Lihua swatted the tentacle using a birdwing she conjured using her magic. A physical attack like this will not stop her. She just strutted like a boss into the Diyu.
"Waah!" The foxfire beast is not weak in dodging gas. It’s been trained by Yanyan during their playti! It fluidly retreated and out of everyone’s sight.
"Hey, damned terrorist. This is not your turf! You don’t get to police who goes where. You don’t have any business being here in the first place!" Chairman Mao waved his arm, and in an instant, a domineering downward gale pinned the attacking tentacle on the ground.
Boogsh!
A loud, cracking cry of broken concrete sounded.
Mo Lihua, whose back is turned away from the old Chairman Mao, felt goosebumps. The human calamity of Country C is active once again. Whoever is behind that toad has signed a death certificate.
Chairman Mao is not called Disaster Dragon of the East for nothing!
"Stop hiding behind your pet’s oversized glands! I have already seen through your ugly, wart-filled camouflage!" Chairman Mao jumped up, soared to the sky and raised his arm to conjure another powerful attack. This ti, a fork of lightning.
Boom!
A violent electrical discharge caused a thunderous sound. The golden strips of lights crawled on the toad skin, and it elicited a pained hum from the giant monster.
"Qwaaark!"
"As expected of Chairman Mao, it seems like even with this expensive, Robe of Stealth, I could not fool your Azure Eyes." A man’s figure slowly beca solid against the rough, sticky skin of the giant toad.
The man is of dium build, standing about 170 cm, and wearing a black, silky hanfu that blends with the darkness of the night. His face was hidden behind a noticeable frog mask.
Visually, the man is not much compared to Chairman Mao’s alpha physique; however, his latent mana is overwhelming.
Chairman Mao would love to think that the person was a mage like him, but the long, sheathed sword dangling on his waist suggests otherwise.
"What an interesting fellow. You are oddly well inford about my information," Chairman Mao sarcastically smirked.
The Cardinal of Avarice laughed, as though Chairman Mao joked.
He then jovially recited a famous line of a famous philosopher from the olden tis (Sun Tzu), "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
"I did not peg you or anyone from the Cardinals as readers of classic literature. Killing people without care, kidnapping and brainwashing; you lot are savages," Chairman Mao said. "You should have used the classic knowledge to beco a morally correct individual."
"Oh, Chairman Mao," The Cardinal of Avarice clicked his tongue. "Morals are nothing but chains that people willingly put on their necks. We, the Cardinals, are real visionaries who will change the world. We do not need unnecessary weights that will stop us from achieving the world we wanted!"
The man’s voice deepened, "Besides, we are only here to take back what you stole. Morally uptight Chairman Mao, will you return our precious Cardinal of Envy?"
Chairman Mao cloaked his arms with magic. Golden, creeping thunder on the right and sharp wind blades on the left— that is his answer.
"I knew it. There is no redemption for people like you. I can finally turn my conscience off when dealing with you," Chairman Mao’s eyes shone. His blue eyes were mixed with silver and gold. A picture of tornadoes and lightning dancing in the azure sky!
With a wave of his arm, Chairman Mao conjured a massive tornado, bigger than the giant toad.
Crackle! Crackle!
He also threw in a generous amount of lightning into the attack. Talk about overkill!
"Try not to die with this one," Chairman Mao told the Cardinal of Avarice.
The lethal tornado ran towards the terrorist like a fearso at grinder, but the latter only smiled.
"You should have used your strongest magic if you want to subdue ." The Cardinal of Avarice said. "You see, not only are you dealing with a swordsman, you are also fighting my pet. My Jin Chan here loves to eat anything thrown towards it."
Then, in an unbelievable sight, the giant toad opened its mouth and sucked in the tornado!
