“Sorcerer Supre, there’s a-”

“You know what, just call Chamber instead.” I shook my head and interrupted him, although Diorno felt disrespected by it on the other hand, he was pleased because he no longer had to call Sorcerer Supre which is 5 syllables every now and then.

“Chamber. There’s an old man over there. His mana is strange.” Diorno said, pointing at a certain old man in a distance in front of them, wearing nothing but a ragged brown robe with a few holes and patches.

The old man was holding a long wooden stick that he uses as a cane.

“I know. His mana is too large for a normal human.” I replied.

“He might be a human wizard. I’ve heard of them, people who discovered the mana inside them and managed to find a way to harness them through complicated numbers. Even to this day, I have no idea how numbers can help in using mana.”

“Wizards? You seem to know a lot about them.” My ears perked up at the ntion of a term I’m quite familiar with.

Wizards are similar to Sorcerers in a magical way. The only difference between the two is that Sorcerers mostly engage in physical combat, with their spells heavily related to it.

Wizards, on the other hand are the exact opposite of Sorcerers.

If the latter specializes on physical combat magic, the forr are more of versatility, Wizard’s spells are ranging from household magic that can clean and sweep the floor to ranged attacks that targets in a distance.

While Sorcerers are strong in physical, wizards are very weak.

However they make it up by their abundance of spells and large amounts of mana that their body can handle despite being physically weak.

“Of course, the church had a share few encounter with so of them, especially rlin, the greatest wizard to have ever lived.” There was a hint of respect in his eyes as Diorno introduced the legend.

“So, that old man is like rlin?” I asked while pointing at the distant old man with a cane walking towards us.

Due to the hood, we were unable to see his facial features. But what gave away to his old age is the way he walks and the cane he’s using as a support.

Instead of outright addressing the old man, we waited for him to approach us first before raising our questions.

“Good evening, gentlen.” As soon as the old man approached us, he greeted us as he raised his head, letting a small light lit his face, finally showing us his face.

He was indeed old as we assud, wrinkles covered his face, enough to narrate his age and experience in life.

However, one glance of my magic senses tells that this appearance is fake. Forged by a re illusion spell that can deceive normal humans but not .

Now that he got close and I finally got a closer look at his entire appearance, only then did I noticed that his cane is fake. It doesn’t look like a magician’s cane. It’s just a normal long wooden stick.

Instead, what caught my attention was the ring he was wearing on his left hand, a silver ring with a large green stone embedded into it.

Just seeing it is enough for to know that the ring is not normal, it contains so sort of magic inside, a complicated one at that.

“Good evening.” Diorno stepped forward and raised his hand forward, offering a handshake to the old man. It doesn’t seem like Diorno noticed the illusion covering the old man’s face.

Looks like the illusion is a high-level one.

The old man smiled and took his hand, shaking it in the process.

As for , I don’t like to prolong this discussion. I have a potential student reuniting inside his ho, awaiting for to take him in.

“Drop the illusion, wizard. You can’t deceive my eyes.” Not only Diorno was shocked but even the old man stared at in surprise.

“This…” The old man bore a complicated face as his eyes wandered between and the now cautious Diorno beside before sighing.

“I didn’t know there was soone who can perceive magic here. My apologies.” Then finally, the old man dropped his illusion, allow us to have a glimpse of his true appearance.

He wasn’t old, which I wasn’t expecting considering most humans who can use magic are supposed to be old people.

Not young like a middle-aged man.

“What’s your na?” This ti, it was my turn to ask as Diorno turned silent, probably scolding himself to not being able to see through sothing so obvious. At least to .

“…Balthazar Blake.” Sighing, the middle-aged man now known as Balthazar, introduced himself.

“Balthazar Blake. Where have I heard that na before?” I squinted my eyes, trying to recall anyone with the sa na.

“It’s you! rlin’s disciple!” It was Diorno who spoke with wide eyes, surprising even .

‘rlin have a disciple?’ I asked to myself. Surprised by the revelation.

Of course I know about rlin, he too was a Sorcerer back in my world, but I haven’t heard of him having a disciple.

Is it because it’s a different universe so their stories are also different?

Maybe that’s why.

I’ve never truly understood the secrets of the multiverse so I’m not sure. Maybe I’m right or maybe not.

“Balthazar. What are you doing here? Don’t tell you’re still busy looking for rlin’s ancestor?” Diorno asked with a weary smile. As if he was the one who was doing it.

“Well, what can I say? Every year or so, I hear about extraordinary children only to fell short when I et them myself.” Balthazar sighed in exhaustion, talking to Diorno like old friends.

“You guys know each other?” I asked, not expecting this.

“Well, not exactly.” Diorno then proceeded to explain.

It turns out, when Diorno was a child, training under an experienced exorcist, he showed an incredible talent, which was sniffed by Balthazar, thinking that Diorno was the child who will inherit rlin’s legacy.

Well, when they t and Balthazar assessed Diorno, it turns out he wasn't the one he was looking for and so, that’s the last ti they saw each other.

Only when Diorno grew up, he heard stories of Balthazar and his quest of finding the successor of his master.

“So, is that why you’re here now? To look for your master’s successor?” I inquired to which Balthazar nodded his head.

“Yes. I heard about an explosion here and since no one aside from Supernatural beings can cause it, I thought either it is related to the child I’m looking for or just soone causing chaos. If it’s the latter then I’ll just help the kingdom that my master used to serve.” Balthazar shrugged his shoulders and replied.

“I’m confused. Why are you looking for rlin’s successor? Is rlin dead or what?” My confused question was t with their stares at as if they’re telling ‘Are you dumb?’.

“….You guys can just tell , right? Instead of staring at like that.” Their stares were t with my monotonous tone.

“My master is dead. Betrayed by one of his students, who also killed my lover. At the sa ti, this said student is a dear friend of mine.” Sorrow flashed on Balthazar’s face as he looked down on the ground with a solemn tone as he explained.

“I see….I’m sorry for opening up an old wound.” Guilt imidiately appeared on my face as I apologized sincerely.

No wonder they were looking at like that.

“It’s okay. It’s all in the past. My only focus right now is to finish my master’s last mission for and I would finally be able to rest and join my beloved.” He said with a warm smile, as if death is rely a resting place for soone like him.

Well, considering how long Balthazar has lived. I think it’s almost a thousand years if my mory serves right.

That’s right, I finally rembered where I last heard Balthazar’s na.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

A film I rember watching during my high school days. It was during the ti when magic and such are all-ti famous for nerds like .

No wonder Balthazar looks familiar. That’s Nicholas Cage right there, except with a thick beard and very long hair. I almost thought he’s rlin himself.

‘He’s hundreds of years away from finding the person he’s looking for.’ I felt pity for Balthazar. The guy would live by himself for at least a few more hundred years before finding rlin’s successor and reuniting with his lover.

Unless I can hasten it up.

Balthazar and his lover whom I forgot the na would be a good addition to my Sorcerer Society.

Not to ntion, their thod of harnessing mana. Through the ring they’re wearing, they could manipulate their surroundings, almost near the level of reality manipulation, albeit with large limitations.

For example, they can’t use their magic to heal themselves, their magic relies heavily on having knowledge about physics and science, they can’t do feats such killing soone directly, or resurrecting soone.

Heck they can’t even use their magic to teleport or at least, fly.

Don’t even ntion that they need their magic rings to perform magic.

Though that doesn’t make them any weaker. Their magic spells are very versatile, especially the mirror spell that Balthazar used where they can enter so sort of Mirror Dinsion replica, though it can’t fully trap soone like the Mirror Dinsion where you need the Sling Ring to escape.

Aside from that, the only thing that caught my attention to their kind is their capabilities to create life through inanimate objects.

Balthazar can create a large griffin through tal, his rival can create a bunch of wolves that ca out of a paper and then there’s the Chinese guy who can unleash a fiery dragon.

Though their heavy reliance makes up too much of these advantages.

‘Maybe…I can use their rings as a substitute for my Sling Rings. I can enchant them so magic rings can use portals like Sling Rings.’ Thinking about this, I couldn’t help but yell to myself about how smart I am.

Smiling to myself, I shifted my attention to Balthazar who was busy catching up with Diorno.

“Say, Balthazar. I have a great offer to you.” I interrupted them.

“Offer?” Balthazar confusedly asked.

***

[Balthazar PoV]

“You want to join your Sorcerer Society and beco a Master?” I repeated the offer, disbelief evident in my tone.

Who wouldn’t be? This man, who I t just now, offered a very high position.

“Yes.”

“…What’s it to you then?” Caution appeared on my face, my master is wise enough to teach that there is no such thing as free lunch in this world.

Even if soone helped you without asking for an exchange, you’ll find yourself indebted to them in no ti.

“I just wish to know more about your magic system and that ring of yours. In exchange, I can teach you my magic spells and help your find your master’s successor.” I hear him say.

I don’t even know this kid’s na.

He’s like what? Fifteen years old?

“…Prove it.” I said, no way I’m falling for a child’s trick. I’m thousand year older than this kid, for rlin’s beard!

“Prove it?” The kid fell into contemplation before replying.

His next words however, made freeze.

“How about a spar. If I defeat you, you agree to my offers and if you defeat . I’ll help you kill Morgan Le Fay and reunite you with your lover, Veronica.” He said those words with the utmost confidence in his tone.

I have so many questions running in my mind, questions I want to force the answer out from the kid, however I only managed to ask one despite it all.

“How did you know that na?”

[I didn’t use Grammarly on this one. So tell if this is better or the previous ones where I used Grammarly.]

[Anyways, guess which movie Balthazar ca from. The correct answer will earn a like and my favourite emojis]
