Chapter 261: Chapter 164: Consignnt; Authorization
The two of them talked for almost another half an hour, and Luo Dingran ca to understand Cheng Zongyang’s thoughts and various plans.
With matters there concluded, Cheng Zongyang left the Wilderness World.
He felt a great deal of relief.
Luo Dingran had once been the Prefect of Guang’an Prefecture before being swapped with Chang Younian and demoted to County Magistrate of Jade Peak County. His administrative skills were beyond question; while he may have made mistakes, his competence was undeniable.
After reappearing in the outside world, Cheng Zongyang retrieved the Geomagnetic Stone from the cave, quickly left the Inner Mountain, and hurried back to the County Town.
With Li Lu absent, he stayed in the County Town to oversee the construction of the new village and the cultivation of farmland, ensuring Zhao the Seventh and the others weren’t left without direction.
These matters were crucial for their future developnt and couldn’t be treated lightly.
His next task was to replicate the recipe from Zhang Jinquan and produce the Five Grains Inner Replenishing Pills.
The Five Grains Inner Replenishing Pill allowed a person to go three days without eating. Once it was successfully produced, it could drastically reduce his people’s food consumption.
Supplying so many people would require a huge amount of dicinal Materials.
For now, however, he wasn’t concerned with that. The first step was to replicate the pill.
When he returned to his residence, Zhang Chuchu reported that nothing had co up. Cheng Zongyang told him, "In a mont, I’ll write down a recipe. Have soone find Zhao the Seventh and a Doctor, then go to the apothecary and retrieve the dicinal Materials. I need to make sothing."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chuchu cupped his fist and said, "Yes, Young Master."
Cheng Zongyang went back to his study. He wrote down the recipe for the Five Grains Inner Replenishing Pill, mixing in seven or eight other types of dicinal Materials and assorted grains, then gave the list to his steward.
Zhao the Seventh was remarkably efficient. In less than an hour, he had delivered everything the recipe required.
Next, Cheng Zongyang began preparing the ingredients. He didn’t allow anyone into the rear courtyard.
He chopped the grains and dicinal Materials, then ground them into a powder. The Inner Replenishing Pill was made in pill form, not as a decoction, so it didn’t require boiling.
Following the recipe, he mixed all the fine powders together and then stead the mixture. After steaming for half an hour, he ford the hot mixture into pills about the size of his pinky nail.
The stead grains beca sticky, which served as a good binding agent for the dicinal powder.
Once cooled and air-dried, the pills beca quite hard. They were ant to be swallowed with water, not chewed.
Cheng Zongyang spent the entire morning making ten pills.
Since this was just a trial run to replicate the recipe, he didn’t need to make a large batch, and the process wasn’t overly complex.
After the pills had dried, Cheng Zongyang summoned six of his household servants.
Cheng Zongyang handed the plate to Zhang Chuchu and said, "These are so dicinal pills I made. They should make you feel full. Each of you take one and see how long you can go without eating. Report back to
afterward."
With that, Cheng Zongyang took a pill and ate it himself, adding, "Just swallow it with water. Nothing else is needed."
Zhang Chuchu and the others didn’t hesitate. Seeing their own young master take one without a second thought, they had no reason to question it.
They each took a pill and swallowed it whole. A few of the maidservants, however, struggled to get it down. Seeing this, Cheng Zongyang shook his head. "Don’t force it down if you can’t swallow it. Go get so water."
And so, faces flushed with embarrassnt, the maidservants hurried to the kitchen.
Cheng Zongyang reminded Zhang Chuchu, "Keep careful track of the ti. See how long it takes before you need to eat again. This is critical."
Zhang Chuchu replied with a bow, "Yes, I’ll keep that in mind."
Zhang Chuchu was a man who knew his place; he never asked what he shouldn’t or said what he shouldn’t. This was one of the things Cheng Zongyang appreciated about him.
He couldn’t stand people who demanded a reason for every task they were given. With the matter arranged, Cheng Zongyang returned to his study.
However, Cheng Zongyang was surprised to find himself feeling hungry after only a single day.
Taking the pill had produced no sensation at all, just like drinking a sip of water. There was no feeling of fullness to speak of.
Still, being able to go a full day without eating was, for him, a significant effect.
But it only lasted for a single day. This made Cheng Zongyang frown.
’Didn’t they say three days? Why did it only last for one?’
Thinking he must have made a mistake sowhere, he called Zhang Chuchu in to ask.
Learning that the others still weren’t hungry left Cheng Zongyang puzzled.
Then, a possibility suddenly occurred to him.
He was a Martial Artist. The Energy required for his Cultivation was far greater than that of an ordinary person.
In the end, he decided to wait another two days.
Finally, on the third day, Zhang Chuchu ca to report that the effect had indeed lasted for three days. To be precise, they had gone sixty-eight hours without needing to eat.
At this, Cheng Zongyang smiled.
’Sixty-eight hours. That’s close to three days. It confirms my guess was correct.’
For a Martial Artist, the Five Grains Inner Replenishing Pill only worked for one day, but for an ordinary person, it was indeed effective for three days.
After so thought, he dismissed Zhang Chuchu and entered the Wilderness World to find Zhang Jinquan and ask him about it.
In those three days, thanks to Luo Dingran’s reorganizing efforts, work in the territory had beco much more orderly.
Zhang Jinquan was in charge of all pharmacological matters, which included overseeing the territory’s dicinal fields, herb gathering, and pill production.
Han Mo had also been assigned to assist him.
Although Jing Xuan also possessed the dicine Skill, his extraordinary creative Ability couldn’t be wasted, so only Han Mo was assigned to follow Zhang Jinquan.
When Zhang Jinquan heard about Cheng Zongyang’s issue, he laughed and said:
"My Lord, I’m afraid I didn’t notice that. When we first tested the dicine, we only had an apprentice try it, and he’s just an ordinary person. I tried it myself after we finalized the production, but I wasn’t paying close attention to the duration."
Cheng Zongyang could only give a wry smile at that. He then said:
"Well, keep researching this recipe. See if you can improve its effects for Martial Artists. Ideally, taking it should not only reduce the need to eat but also have so effect of strengthening one’s qi and blood. There’s no rush, take your ti."
Zhang Jinquan cupped his fist. "My Lord, most of these dicinal Materials are used to replenish qi and nourish the blood. The pill uses these effects, combined with the Essence Qi from the grains, to reduce the need for food while also supplenting one’s qi and blood. But since you require it, my lord, I will begin working on an improved version."
Just then, Cheng Zongyang’s gaze swept the area, and he noticed a bowl of dark green liquid next to Zhang Jinquan. He asked, a little curious, "The Growth dicine Liquid?"
Hearing this, Zhang Jinquan’s eyes lit up, and he said excitedly:
"That’s right, my lord! This liquid is truly potent; it drastically reduces the ti crops take to grow. However, its current effect is limited to helping them root and sprout. It doesn’t do much for their subsequent growth.
So, I was thinking about whether I could improve it, preferably to accelerate the crops’ overall growth rate."
To this, Cheng Zongyang smiled. "You could try experinting with powdered Exotic Beast bones, as well as their blood and flesh..."
Cheng Zongyang then shared his second uncle’s research thods with Zhang Jinquan.
"’These materials have already been tested and have so effect, but you’ll need to research the specifics in detail.’"
Zhang Jinquan was astonished to learn that materials from Exotic Beasts were required, but his surprise quickly turned into a grin.
"That’s excellent. The only problem is that Exotic Beast materials are hard to co by, which ans we’ll have to hunt for them. My Lord, I heard from Luo Zheng that there’s an Exotic Beast in the mountains?"
Cheng Zongyang was also reminded of the lynx-like Exotic Beast. The only issue was that the creature was a Three-Star Level Exotic Beast.
He thought for a mont before saying, "Don’t provoke that thing for the ti being. It’s very strong and very clever. As long as it doesn’t cause us any trouble, we leave it alone.
If you want to hunt Exotic Beasts, you can set an ambush on the far side of the mountain. See if any other beasts wander in."
Their location on the map was near the coast, but almost no Exotic Beasts ca from the sea. The only direction they ca from was the mountain behind them.
Zhang Jinquan said, "My Lord, Steward Luo has already arranged for that. He’s putting together a three-person Hunting Team that will go out daily. Perhaps they’ll run into sothing eventually. I’ll discuss this matter with him later."
Cheng Zongyang nodded. He had no intention of interfering with Luo Dingran’s arrangents.
Since he had delegated the task, he would let him handle it. There was no need to constantly worry about it.
Even if mistakes were made, they could always be corrected.
