Chapter 184: Chapter 133: Mysterious Firebird; The Great Fire of Tianduan Mountain

"Besides, a wildfire of this scale won’t stop burning for days, maybe even more than ten."

Cheng Zongyang shook his head. "This is beyond human control. It will either burn itself out or be put out by a downpour."

At the ntion of a downpour, Zhou Hanchang gave a wry smile. "Where would rain co from? No, we can’t stay here. We have to find a way back, check the village outside, and see if we can take shelter there."

Cheng Zongyang replied helplessly, "Uncle, we’d have to be able to get through the fire first."

They had no choice but to stay put.

Fortunately, they had the pool water to cool off. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to stand the heat for much longer. anwhile, his uncle continued to give the animals water to drink and cool them down.

This was only possible because the flow of water from the bamboo pipe buried underground hadn’t been cut off; otherwise, there wouldn’t have been nearly enough water for all the animals.

In Zhou Hanchang’s view, hunting was one thing—that was just the law of the jungle. But he couldn’t bear to stand by and watch them die in a fire.

Cheng Zongyang didn’t try to stop him. He joined in, carrying water to help splash and cool down the two or three hundred animals of all kinds.

’It seed like a foolish effort, but he couldn’t bring himself to let his uncle work alone.’

Just then, however, a monkey with singed fur suddenly walked out from the crowd. It approached Zhou Hanchang and held out an object.

Zhou Hanchang stared, puzzled, at the dark, grimy, irregularly shaped object in its paw.

"What is this?" Zhou Hanchang asked instinctively.

Cheng Zongyang walked over as well, looking at the thumb-sized object in the monkey’s paw.

Zhou Hanchang took it. The monkey imdiately nodded at him before returning to its spot.

Holding it in his hand, Zhou Hanchang found it was quite heavy. He passed it to Cheng Zongyang. "Zongyang, do you recognize this?"

Cheng Zongyang took it to examine it. It had a surprising Weight, and its surface was pitted and uneven. It looked like tal, but at the sa ti, it didn’t.

He wracked his brain, then said tentatively, "It looks a bit like a teorite."

"A teorite?" Zhou Hanchang was puzzled. "Is this what they look like when they fall from the sky?" He added, "But that monkey was already singed so badly. Why would it be carrying this while fleeing for its life?"

Cheng Zongyang shook his head and smiled. "Perhaps to the monkey, this is its most prized possession. It’s like how so things we consider very important are completely worthless in a monkey’s eyes."

"It’s grateful for what you’ve done, so it gave you the most valuable thing it owns."

Hearing this, Zhou Hanchang nodded, quite pleased. "Alright then, I’ll accept it."

As he spoke, he even gave the monkey a little wave.

Cheng Zongyang didn’t dwell on it. The object did look a bit like a teorite. What surprised him was the monkey itself; that it knew to give a gift was a sign of its remarkable Spiritual Nature.

Ti ticked by, and the fire grew ever stronger.

As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but a raging inferno.

Cheng Zongyang and Zhou Hanchang had to douse themselves with water more frequently to cool down. The animals grew increasingly agitated, pressing further into the center of the clearing. So of the smaller ones even scrambled onto the backs of the larger beasts.

Perhaps because of the intense heat, however, the sky began to grow overcast as clouds seed to gather.

Seeing this, Cheng Zongyang’s eyes lit up. ’It’s going to rain!’

’It hadn’t rained in over two years. Could a wildfire engulfing Tianduan Mountain actually be the thing to finally bring rain?’
