Chapter 171: Chapter 128: The Old Master’s Thoughts
Once demand is t, the Contribution Points awarded for an item will drop. The value of Contribution Points is thus affected by supply and demand.
This ti, Cheng Zongyang brought back two large bags of coarse salt. After handing them over to the Storehouse for inventory, he went to a temporary training area in Henei to check on the Hunting Hall mbers’ training.
When he arrived, he was surprised to see his father, Cheng Guanghai, training the recruits. He walked over and asked, "Father, where’s my uncle?"
Cheng Guanghai corrected a man’s posture before replying, "Your uncle said that while he’s fine doing the work himself, he’s not used to teaching people and doesn’t know how. So, he asked
to do it. I just let him go handle other things."
Hearing this, Cheng Zongyang thought of his uncle’s disposition—he really wasn’t the type to teach others. He just smiled and said,
"Let him be, then. Give him so ti to adjust."
Cheng Zongyang thought about how his own skills had been taught to him by his father. ’Having him teach is a good thing, too.’
He had taken the mbers of the Hunting Hall out for a trial run yesterday and identified their shortcomings, which was why they were now training. It wouldn’t be too late to take them out again after they grew more accustod to things.
"Right," Cheng Guanghai added. "By the way, your grandfather said that when you got back, you should pay a visit to the ancestral hall."
Cheng Zongyang nodded, then turned and headed back toward Henei.
He quickly washed up before making his way to the ancestral hall.
Only mbers of the Cheng and Zhou Families were permitted to enter. No Outsiders were allowed.
Upon entering the ancestral hall, he saw his grandfather sitting in the Taishi Chair at the edge of the courtyard, flipping through a small book. Cheng Zongwen was beside him, saying sothing.
That Taishi Chair was an item from the Wilderness World and possessed a special effect. Elder Zhou was almost always the one using it.
"Big Brother," Cheng Zongwen called out imdiately upon seeing Cheng Zongyang, his face lighting up with pleasure.
"Mm." Cheng Zongyang nodded with a smile, then turned to Elder Zhou. "Grandfather, I’m back."
Elder Zhou looked up and smiled when he saw Cheng Zongyang. "It’s good you’re back. You were out all night. Is everything all right?"
"Everything’s fine," Cheng Zongyang replied, then nodded to his cousin. Seeing the gesture, Zongwen imdiately said to Elder Zhou, "Grandpa, since Big Brother is here, I’ll take my leave."
"Ah, all right. Thank you!" Elder Zhou said with a chuckle, patting the back of Cheng Zongwen’s hand.
"Not at all. It’s my duty as one of the younger generation," Cheng Zongwen replied with a warm smile of his own, then slowly walked out of the ancestral hall.
Then, Elder Zhou handed the small book to Cheng Zongyang and began to speak.
"Your father said you’ll be in charge of the Cheng Family genealogy. I’ve already had your cousin write down the records for both our families. Your grandfather, old Brother Cheng, was a man of great foresight. If it weren’t for him back then, I wouldn’t have changed your uncles’ nas.
"For a clan, maintaining the generational naming order is very important. Compiling the genealogy and recording the clan’s history are also necessary tasks. I’m entrusting all of this to you. Your eldest uncle will handle the Zhou Family’s side of things, so you don’t need to worry too much about it."
Cheng Zongyang hadn’t expected that Elder Zhou had summoned him to discuss the family genealogy.
"Grandfather, I’ll take care of it. Please don’t worry yourself. The most important thing is for you to look after your health," Cheng Zongyang said with concern.
An elder in the ho is a treasure. When it ca to handling clan affairs, the older generation understood the rules and their importance far better than the young.
Elder Zhou laughed. "Don’t you worry, my health is excellent. Life keeps getting better and better. Your grandmother and I will be able to live for a good long while yet.
"By the way, regarding the ancestral halls in Henei, I’ve already spoken to your eldest uncle. We won’t be moving into the new one. Once the Cheng Family’s hall in Henei is built and the Cheng ancestral tablets have been moved from here over to it, this hall will beco the Zhou Family Ancestral Hall."
Cheng Zongyang shook his head. "Grandfather, rest assured, I’ve already planned the location for the hall. Just let
handle it. Please, trust ."
Elder Zhou shook his head, wanting to say more, but Cheng Zongyang changed the subject.
He understood his grandfather’s thinking. The old man didn’t want Outsiders to think that the Cheng and Zhou Families couldn’t distinguish between the primary family and the subordinate one.
And just as Cheng Zongyang suspected, Elder Zhou was well aware that the Zhou Family owed its current prosperity entirely to the Cheng Family.
The elder wanted to make the hierarchy between them perfectly clear.
It might not matter now, but what about after the fourth generation? That’s when problems could easily arise.
It was better for him, an elder, to bring it up proactively, rather than leaving it to the future generations. This was better for both families and would prevent any future confusion among Zhou descendants about who was truly the head of the clan.
The Zhou Family, after all, had a different surna. The direct connection between the families only spanned these three generations.
