Chapter 50: Is Callian Cheating On ?

Eira leaned against the kitchen counter, holding her phone close as Aunt Marion’s voice ca through, sounding lively.

"Eira, sothing happened after you left," Marion said. "When they ca back to the church to bury him, they discovered soone had... marked the body. And now, more people are stepping forward, sharing stories about what he did."

Eira’s face softened. "It’s good they’re finally speaking up. He hurt too many people."

Marion sighed. "I think it’ll bring a lot of relief to those who suffered. I just thought you’d want to know."

"Thank you, Aunt Marion," Eira said, and after saying goodbye, she hung up, feeling lighter.

She turned to find Callian sitting on the couch, his attention locked on so papers.

"What’s got you so focused?" she asked, curious.

He looked up, eyebrows raised. "Are you heading to the university today?"

Eira nodded. "Yes, I was just about to leave."

He set the papers down and stood up. "I’ll drive you. It’ll give a break from all this."

When they reached the university, Callian pulled up near the entrance, glancing over at her.

"Have a good day," he said, giving her a soft smile.

"You too," she replied, smiling back as she stepped out of the car. "I’ll call you when I’m done."

After she left, Callian drove to a nearby coffee shop, parked, and went in.

He ordered a coffee and settled by the window with his papers.

Just then, a woman with short black hair walked over, surprised to see him.

"Callian! It’s been ages," she said, taking the seat across from him.

Callian looked up, surprised. "Tina, wow. How long has it been?"

"Ages...Are you here alone? Do you mind if I sit down?"

"Yes, you see, I’m marrie-"

"Perfect!" Tina sat In front of him.

She noticed his hands around the cup, and placed hers on top of it.

"Let warm it for you, Callian."

"Remove them."

Outside, Vanesa happened to walk by, on her way to class.

She paused when she noticed Callian through the coffee shop window, and her eyes rolled as she watched the woman with him.

A sly smile ford onto her face. "Well, well. This could be interesting." She pulled out her phone, carefully snapping a few photos through the glass.

Vanesa watched as Tina’s hand lingered on Callian’s, leaning in closer as they seed to laugh together.

"Perfect," Vanesa murmured, putting her phone away with a satisfied smile.

She could already picture the effect this would have once Eira saw.

Whispering to herself, she grinned. "This is going to change everything."

Feeling satisfied, she continued her walk toward campus, already working out exactly how to use the photos.

Vanesa strutted into the classroom, her eyes imdiately landed on Eira, who was sitting quietly in the back, alone.

She looked around, noticing that William’s usual seat was empty.

She smiled, "perfect!"

"Eira, all alone today, I see," Vanesa said loudly, drawing the attention of a few other students.

Eira glanced up but said nothing, returning her focus to her notebook.

Vanesa smirked, stepping closer. "What’s wrong? Trouble in paradise?" she said in a sing-song voice. "Seems Callian is keeping busy."

Eira took a slow breath, ignoring her.

But Vanesa wouldn’t stop.

She leaned over Eira’s desk, placing her hand on the edge. "You know, it’s so sad when soone is the last to know. But don’t worry, I’m here to help you out."

Eira looked up, having real cold eyes. "What are you talking about, Vanesa?"

"Oh, just sothing I happened to see." Vanesa pulled out her phone, and lifted the right corner of her lips.

"Thought you might want to know what your darling Callian was up to this morning."

She opened her gallery, showing Eira a photo of Callian sitting with the woman in the coffee shop.

"Look at them. So close, don’t you think?"

Eira’s face stayed calm. "I don’t need to see that."

Vanesa raised an eyebrow, scrolling to the next picture. "Oh, but this one’s better. Look how she’s touching his hand. And see that look on her face? Definitely not friendly, wouldn’t you say?"

Eira glanced at the picture, but Vanesa kept pushing.

"You know," Vanesa continued in a voice that was filled with fake sympathy, "I almost feel bad for you. But maybe this is just what happens when you can’t keep soone’s attention."

Eira’s jaw tightened. "Are you done?"

Vanesa gave a light laugh. "Done? Oh, not even close. I just thought you’d want to know who he really spends his ti with. Or did he already tell you about her?"

Eira t her eyes, "You think I’m going to believe anything you say?"

Vanesa’s smile widened. "Suit yourself. Just rember who was there to show you the truth."

She stepped back, putting her phone away. "Good luck, Eira. You’ll need it."

With one last smug glance, Vanesa turned and sauntered away, leaving Eira alone, staring at her notebook, ’what is going on?’ Eira asked herself.

Eira sat still for a mont, her hands clenched.

Finally, she pulled out her phone and texted Callian.

-Where are you?-

She watched the screen, her heart pounded faster as her fingers started to tremble.

A mont later, his reply ca.

- At the office. Busy with work. Why?-

Eira’s jaw tightened, anger started rising as Vanesa’s words repeated in her mind. She took a breath, her fingers typed quickly.

-Are you sure?-

There was a longer pause this ti. Then his reply appeared.

-Yes. What’s going on?-

Eira stared at his response for at least one minute before she managed to gather her courage to reply back.

She thought of the pictures Vanesa had shown her, each one making her doubt what Callian was saying.

- We’ll talk later.-

She put her phone down, struggling to focus as questions filled her mind, ’he said he loves , so why?’

She tapped her index finger on the table, ’Callian...’

Eira’s leg started shaking, "he loves ..."
