Chapter 160: The Hunt
Chapter 160: The Hunt
While so were getting the justice and others went through their trials, Callian couldn’t forget one specific person.
He opened the door, and the quiet of his house wrapped around him like a suffocating shroud.
Upstairs, in his room, the darkness swallowed him.
He reached for the dresser, yanking the top drawer open with more force than necessary.
Clothes tumbled out, forgotten fabrics, but he ignored the ss.
His hands found the black shirt first, then the matching pants.
The cotton felt rough against his fingertips as he quickly changed, shedding his earlier self like a snake discarding its skin.
This wasn’t a choice—it was sothing he had to do.
He grabbed a knife from the desk drawer, sliding it carefully into his jacket, and slipped out the back door into the chill of the night.
He had spent days piecing together the clues, every thread leading him closer to Mita’s hideaway.
The na alone made his blood boil.
She hired a hitman. She wanted Eira gone.
The thought replayed in his head, louder with every step.
He clenched his fists until his knuckles whitened, but he forced himself to keep his breathing steady.
This wasn’t about emotion. This was about justice—his justice.
By the ti he reached the abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town, his body was taut with tension.
The building lood before him, its windows shattered, its walls cloaked in graffiti and gri.
It was a perfect hideaway for soone like Mita.
Callian slipped around the side, careful as he avoided the broken glass scattered across the ground.
The dark glow of light from inside confird what he already knew.
She was here.
He adjusted his jacket, feeling the blade against his chest, and moved toward the entrance.
The door gave way with a creak, its rusted hinges groaned loudly.
Inside, the air slled of damp wood and old tal, the quiet murmur of voices coming from deeper within.
Callian stepped forward, his boots crunched against the concrete floor, the sound announced his arrival.
Mita’s voice froze mid-sentence.
She turned sharply, her dark eyes widened when she saw him.
Around her, three n stood, their broad shoulders and cold marked them as hired muscle.
"Callian," Mita mumbled his na.
But he saw the fear in her eyes, the way her hand twitched toward the table behind her.
"What are you doing here?"
"Funny question," Callian replied calmly, almost conversational.
He stepped closer, the tension in the room tightening like a noose. "I could ask you the sa. Hiding after Konrad’s arrest? Not like you to run."
Mita smirked, but it didn’t reach her eyes. "I’m not hiding. I’m... reorganizing."
"Reorganizing." Callian let the word hang in the air. "Was that what you were doing when you hired hitn to go after Eira?"
Her smirk faded, and she glanced at the n around her.
One of them took a step forward, but Callian raised a hand, stopping him cold.
"Don’t," he warned.
Mita crossed her arms, trying to regain her composure. "You have no proof," she said. "You’re just grasping at straws."
Callian’s lips curled into a cold smile. "Oh, I have more than proof."
He reached into his jacket, pulling out his phone.
With a few quick taps, he brought up a video and turned the screen toward her.
The grainy footage showed a man tied to a chair, his face was bloodied.
"Recognize him?" Callian asked.
Mita took a step back, her breathing quickened as she stared at the screen. "What did you do?" she whispered.
"What I did?" Callian laughed, the sound was humourless. "I just returned the favor. You wanted Eira to suffer? To be powerless? Tell , Mita—how does it feel, knowing your man is at my rcy?"
Her hands trembled now, and she glanced toward the side door.
Callian caught her..
"Don’t even think about it," he said, stepping closer.
Mita ignored him. She lunged toward the door, her desperation turned her steps clumsy.
But Callian was faster.
He grabbed her arm, yanking her back with a force that sent her stumbling.
"Let go of !" she shrieked, twisting and clawing at his grip.
But Callian didn’t let go.
He tightened his hold, his face was inches from hers.
"You don’t get to run...Not after everything you’ve done."
The guys tried to get him.
"Stay back," he warned. "I didn’t co here to kill anyone. But I won’t hesitate if you force ."
The n exchanged uneasy glances, unsure of their next move.
Mita, still struggling in his grasp, looked at them with wide, pleading eyes.
"Help !" she shouted.
But they didn’t move.
"You think they care about you?" Callian hissed, his words ant for Mita alone.
"They’re just here for a paycheck. Just like the guy you hired to go after Eira."
Her resistance was becoming weaker, her body started going limp in his grip.
She stared at him. "You think this makes you better than ?" she spat.
"No," Callian said quietly. "But it makes
stronger than you."
"Why are you doing this? You loved , Callian..."
"I never did, Mita..." he forced a smile. "You see, I always saw you and your family as soone pathetic, baggers and cheap copies of wealth."
Mita gritted her teeth, "how dare you say that?!"
"I only speak the truth, my darling..." He put the knife next to her cheek.
The n that were surrounding him, left one by one, until je was finally alone with her.
He forced her to sit on a chair, and tied her up with a rope.
"You see," he started speaking, "I could’ve let you go easily, live your sad pathetic life, but you’ve threatened my wife...the life inside her."
Mita stuttered when Callian pointed the knife to her belly, "how long do you think it takes to get rid of the child in a woman’s womb?"
"I-I don’t know..."
"Let’s find out, shall we?" His smile spread widely across his face.
