"Thanks for sending ho, Ronan," Alia said with a sigh as they stood in the elevator. The climb to the penthouse seed awfully slow, and Alia wished it could only be slower.

"They should be done with dinner by now," Ronan said, checking his wristwatch. "Emline Hawthorne has a rather strict schedule set by her mother. She goes to sleep before ten every night. She wouldn’t stay out too late."

"Oh, I am not worried about dinner," Alia said. She then muttered bitterly under her breath, mildly in disgust. "I am worried we might walk into them having dessert."

Ronan, who had caught her little mumble, rely pursed his lips tightly together. He chose not to comnt on the topic, allowing Alia to vent all she wanted. He wasn’t in any place to say anything, and while he understood that Alia and Matteo’s relationship was contractual, she still had her pride.

"Are you still planning to stay with him after this?" Ronan asked. "I know he offered you to move in, but with everything going on with Emline..."

"Oh, of course not!" Alia said, shaking her head. "I will look for apartnts starting tomorrow morning. My dad should be discharged soon, and I doubt Miss Hawthorne would be too pleased about her fiancé’s ex-fling lingering around."

"If you need a temporary place to stay, just let know," Ronan said. "I’ve got an apartnt downtown. It’s right next to a clinic too, which would be convenient if you need to bring your dad for further check-ups."

Alia’s heart felt warm and fuzzy with Ronan’s words. She pivoted her body slightly so that she faced him just a little more directly and smiled.

"Thank you, Ronan," she sincerely said. At that mont, the elevator let out a soft ding before the doors opened.

"I should get going, then," Ronan said, keeping his finger on the open-door button. "I’ll see you at work tomorrow―"

His words were interrupted by a sudden crashing sound from within the apartnt, and at the sa ti, Alia and Ronan swiveled their heads in the direction of the noise.

"Was that Matteo?" Ronan asked. He shared a look with Alia, and without saying a word, both of them stepped out of the elevator, heading straight for Matteo’s bedroom.

Strangely enough, the door wasn’t locked and was left slightly ajar. The mont they entered the house, there was also a strong, pungent sll of burnt food. However, mixed in it was a subtle sweetness that none of them could pinpoint.

"Matteo?" Alia called out, worried.

It didn’t seem like they were in the middle of dinner, and Alia couldn’t spot any of Emline’s belongings anywhere. However, if the noises ca from the bedroom, perhaps this was sothing they shouldn’t be disturbing.

Ronan was able to guess what was on Alia’s mind in an instant. Stepping forward, placed his hand on the door and pushed it open when Alia hesitated.

"Wait," Alia called out. "What if they’re―"

Before she could finish his sentence, however, Ronan had already pushed the door open. Their eyes widened with horror, and instinctively, an expletive slipped from Ronan’s lips as he turned away.

Matteo stood at the far end of the room, holding onto the wall for support, while Emline had just picked herself up from the side of the bed. Her hair was a ss, the curls from before were reduced to tangled little strings, and she was clad in nothing but white lace panties.

Her clothes and bra were strewn across the room, so on the floor and so over various furniture. When Alia and Ronan entered, she veered her head over and scread.

"Wait―" Ronan tried to say, his eyes still tightly sealed shut as he looked in the opposite direction, profusely shaking his head. "It was an accident―"

"Creep! Pervert!" Emline scread. She then rushed over to collect her belongings before using her clothes to cover her body as best as she could, dashing out of the master bedroom.

"Shit," Ronan muttered under his breath, and the two of them turned to look at Matteo.

He was hunched over the sofa that was placed inside, his shoulders heaving. The layer of perspiration that had coated his broad back reflected the light of the moon in the dim room, and when he finally raised his head and t Alia’s eyes, all she saw in them was lust.

"I think we should go―"

Before Ronan could hack out the full sentence, Matteo had marched right over. In one swift movent, he reached for Alia’s arm, clasping onto her wrist before tugging her into the room. The bedroom door was clicked shut after that, and this ti, Ronan could distinctly hear the sound of the lock.

Once locked, Matteo cared not for the pounding on the door, nor Ronan’s muffled voice coming from outside. Instead, he reached down and picked Alia up before he crossed the bedroom in long, quick strides. He all but tossed Alia on the mattress, and she bounced on it upon landing.

With barely the ti to reorientate herself, Matteo had lunged over, trapping her small physique under his larger body. Her back imdiately found the mattress once more, Matteo’s strong arms locking her in place before she had the chance to move away. His knee had also found a spot between her legs, preventing her from shimmying out from underneath.

"Matteo, wait―"

"It’s you..." he muttered, his eyes hooded over and glazed in lust. Nevertheless, he was able to maintain eye contact with her.

Electricity fizzled through them, and even the very air Alia breathed felt intoxicating. Being this close to Matteo sent her head running at full speed. She had just witnessed him naked with soone else― it was harder to have misunderstandings about this situation, compared to when he was dressed in nothing but a towel in Cherry’s temporary bedroom.

What was there to mistake, when two people who were engaged to each other were in various states of undress? However, the red blush on Matteo’s cheek was so strong that even Alia knew this wasn’t normal. He had to be heavily intoxicated, and it seed like he had mistaken her for soone else.

"Matteo, wait, I am not Emline―!"

Her words were rudely cut off when Matteo suddenly leaned forward, causing their lips to clash together.
